The Fiji lady looks familiar? I wonder if it's Aunty Nita? She was a chef at the Tradewinds Hotel and owned a juice smoothie shop called Tropical Blends that I visited in 2017.
Yes yes please focus on health! As an American Palagi I visited American Samoa for two months in summer 2017. I lived in village of Amaluia with two brothers Misipele and Setefano Fomai. I dated a member of the family in California (we are still friends by the way).They are members of the Agasiva Family there. In two months I witnessed so many health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, obesity and gout(gugu). Also saw complications of diabetes (ma'i suka) while riding the aiga pasi the busses would stop at LBJ Hospital for passengers drop-off and pick up. Swollen legs and feet, amputations dark patches of skin on back of neck etc.. I saw funerals and businesses selling caskets. The Asian and American western diet is sooo baddd!!! Of course the Samoan diet is very healthy! When I inquired about people's unhealthy diet and the associated health problems I was astounded by some people's answer to why they are sick. They believed in "aitu" or ghost/spirits or a curse someone put on them. When I tried to explain the scientific connection it never occurred to them food is the culprit. Now true only few thought this concept as the cause and not the food. Ice or as locals call it "medicine" is getting worse the men would smoke and stay up all night talking. Witnessed this first hand. Even police in Fagatogo are smoking. My host and his nephew were suffering at the time with tropical skin sores "sili ilangi" and "sili ilago" on their legs. Knowledge of basic first aid I was able to treat these open sores with peroxide, iodine and raw pure Manuka honey with great results. The gout is directly related to tinned meat like pisupo.
