Nice video mate! I was struggling with taking out the gear shaft and thanks to you video I know why - I didn't see under the pile of garbage that there is a spacer/washer.
Hi Mr Flagg, would it be a bad idea to add a grease zero or port on one of these heads if you have it apart? Or is that a dumb idea as it could weaken the housing ?
Have you ever done a repair of a missing “spike” or branch puller hook? Mine has busted off and lost. What would u suggest to repair or add a new hook?
The main housing would need to be replaced. Part number 4182 641 0300. The hook is part of the casting. Very common to break. Notice both of the gear heads I have on the bench have had them broken off too.
Thanks - I watched your presentation because the oiler has stopped working on my identical pole pruner head. Do you have any tips on sorting out the oiler? I have flushed the tank with petrol, removed the tank and cleaned the oil screen (it was already perfect after flushing). I see in your video that there is an oiler drive in the crown wheel and pinion area …. Any tips on how to check this?
Great video man! I just got an HT 101 for doing some work for a guy. Question: what are the screw sizes for the screws at the end of the gear box? The ones that are closest to the pole shaft and pinch the head onto the pole. I have one that snapped off and is logged inside so need to figure out how to get it out!
If it's the newer style with the square extention shaft that screw is M5x.08x32. Stihl part number 9022 371 1073. If it has the round extention shaft it's M5x.08x 25. Stihl part number 9022 371 1050.

I have taken mine apart and have a query about the double bearing on the pinions wonder if maybe one of the bearings that is attached to the pinions is knackered. There is a slight roughness when it is rotated. Not all the way round, just in one area of the rotation. Do you think it should be replaced if there is ANY doubt? My second question is about the gasket surrounding the oil reservoir. The unit is leaking but there doesn't appear to be any damage to the gasket or the surrounding edges. Should I put gasket sealant around it anyway. I ask as I know it can be hard to remove, if I have to remove at some point.

tight the screw I would put a little anti seize then tight it lefty tight, right loose as the arrow shows. Thanks for the info

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that it's there for rigidity and to help with the radial strain on the bearing?
