Thanks for asking. I have Silhouette Studio Business Edition, so glyphs are easily accessible in that edition. If you are using standard edition and are on a windows computer, you can use your character map. I actually now prefer Character Map UWP which you can get from the Microsoft Store. It's very easy to use and you can copy and paste glyphs in from that app very easily.
Hi Jennifer, Not sure why you would not have both sides. In the Business Edition. Have you watched the video on how to use the glyphs panel in Business Edition? You don't need to use the character map as shown in this video to get the glyphs if you have the business edition. Please check out this video instead. th-cam.com/video/93EnTSjnGLE/w-d-xo.html Be sure to use the text panel to the right of your screen and the second tab in this text panel you should be able to see your glyphs. There may be occasions when they do not appear. One thing that I've found helps is if you installed the open type font, to go back and install the true type. Without knowing which font you have installed, I'm not sure why you cannot see them. I hope this helps.
I just watched your vid...for some reason when I choose one of the glyphs and select and copy, it does not paste as a glyph but as a letter. Any advise?
Hi Christiana. There can be many factors that can play a role. Is you text style panel set to the font you want to use? Have you tried another font with glyphs, because sometimes it can be the font. I've also gone back and if I had the OTF installed, I reinstalled using TTF font. Sometimes not all the special characters show in character map unicode subrange>private use. Sometimes they will show in the other subranges. This is true for some of the dingbat fonts for instance. I've since given up the old style character map and using new tools for this. I'm currently working on a new video for this which will be out soon. Stay tuned! Thanks for watching.
I have downloaded several character maps and even the one you demonstrated is completely different and none has the long tails on the letters. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Val. It's difficult to know sometimes what's going on without seeing what process someone is going through. Did you install the OTF version of the font? Sometimes I've had to go back and install the TTF and it worked when OTF did not. If you downloaded a free font, sometimes all the ligatures do not show. Sometimes they do. I started using the character map UWP available from the windows store and is much easier than the old windows character map. (I do have a video, but I'm still working on it) I don't need it for my Silhouette Business Edition, but I do use it for Cricut and other programs. I do encourage upgrading (if you can) to at least the Designer Edition of Silhouette. I know you'll love those additional features of the upgraded editions. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!
@@SayItWithSimplicity thank you so much for this info. Can't afford to upgrade right now however it is a future goal. I did find some freebies that are working so there's that! I will try the UWP too! Thanks again!
If you download from certain sites sometimes there is a font preview.. I know that Font bundles and Creative Fabrica have previews.. If you are using Silhouette Basic and have a windows computer, I've found that I like character map UWP. You can get it free in the Microsoft store. You can see all the special use characters for your fonts and it is much better than the standard character map. If you upgrade to designer or above you can see the glyphs that come with a font in your type panel.
Keep in mind that the glyphs are not in Silhouette Studio but you will get them from a character map or font manager. Let me know what specific problem you're having, and I'll do my best to help. Thanks!
I am not familiar with mac, but you might check out this tutorial on Design Bundles. Let me know if it helps. Thanks! designbundles.net/design-school/access-font-glyphs-mac
I'm not sure why that is happening without knowing the font. I usually install the open type font, however, I do have fonts that get the result you are getting with the open type. When I reinstall using the True Type Font they work perfectly. I'm not sure if that helps.
Hi Melissa, I'm sorry you could not get that to work out. The character map method does work with many fonts and I did test it out again after I saw your comment. Cricut uses the same character map method to access glyphs. Glyphs directly from Silhouette Studio are supported in upgraded versions of the software. Often times Swing Design offers this upgrade at a good price and it is well worth it. I hope you can find a method that works out for you.
Thank you so much! I found this to be very helpful, I don’t think I ever would have figured this out !!
So glad it helped!
Wow! Thank you for explaining this. Game changer!

Is there a way to know which of my fonts have glyphs?

When I copy to clipboard(as that is my only option)and paste I am getting a rectangle
I'm not sure why that is happening without knowing the font. I usually install the open type font, however, I do have fonts that get the result you are getting with the open type. When I reinstall using the True Type Font they work perfectly. I'm not sure if that helps.
this did not help me I have purchased all these fonts and have no way to access them with the basic addition in silhouette for my cameo 4
