Thanks for the 2 octave fingering - I'm up to date on 1/4 notes at 120bpm...1/8th notes at about 100bpm yet struggling with 1/16s!
I'm not getting a clean sound at point of left hand position change.... Thank you for bringing this to my attention...Glad the shed is always unlocked 😊

I learned guitar a bit before I learned bass, and my older brother was sooo into Tool at the time and he was showing me Jambi, those intro string lines, he played it for me and gave it a palm mute for the bass lines and I was in that from then on. That is so awesome to hear of that kind of experience when you're literally a budding musician. No wonder Nick is unbelievable and makes it look sooo effortless!

Had to break it down and do it in segments, but glad I got to watch this whole thing. I've been a fan of Nick's playing since the beginning of the Pomplamoose studio sessions. Glad to see mentioned here the Dua Lipa cover by Scary Pockets; I've lost track of the number of times I've gone back to listen to that monstrous rhythm section groove -- so loose, and yet so tight.
At 57:50, Nick is describing the onstage bit where everyone is trying to distract him during the solo, and I was reminded of something from a Flecktones vid from several years back: Victor Wooten talks about (during rehearsal?) doing a band thing where everyone else throws musical curves at Bela to try to get him to make a mistake.

Awesome video. Found the 2 octave diagonal movement scale using 16th notes an awesome idea and have implemented it into my practice already. Opened my eyes to the technique. So easy to understand. It was like I was ripe for that idea to be planted in me. Gonna make a difference to opening up the fretboard, I can tell. A real derrrr / eureka moment 😊

There's so much information in this video! What a great teacher Nick is! I realize I pluck too hard (learned bass by myself listening to RATM and RHCP... without amp ^^) which then requires the strings to be set with way too much action, which then complicates precision plucking (and makes tapping almost impossible). It also explains why I have so little endurance. But on the other hand, when I pluck just over the higher frets, it sound really like an upright bass! ^^ Keep those kind of videos coming, full of tips from professionals, I love it!

Definitely best to watch these with bass in hand. Great tip with the palm muting pressure, I didn't realise I was choking the sustain so much and was digging in too much to compensate. Playing as lightly as possible is the other tip I needed to hear for sure. I always tend to play too heavy meaning I'm not able to have the action as low as I want so I think focusing on that is going to be a huge leap for my playing.

Arguably click bait, but still Flea is a bass legend from LA. It makes sense if you think of it that way.

Because he looks angry as "someone is trying to dethrone him from LA"

Disappointed to see Flea's image used for the thumbnail, as he's not mentioned at all in the vid. Yes both Nick Campbell and Flea are from LA, but the connection feels misleading. Kinda unfortunate that a respected channel like this resorts to clickbait tactics

@@TS-cs8suWell...we want SBL to be continually successful, right? If they ignore solid thumbnail strategy, they leave views behind and fewer people will watch the video. We can cringe if we want, but it's smart to put the most well-known LA bassist's face on the thumbnail so that they can click through and be introduced to Nick, a little-known yet incredible talent. Aslo, I agree with @adam5781 's perspective.

Check him out in the Pomplamoose song Can't Stop Feeling Billie Jean's Face, especially the little run at the end.

I'm pretty sure the singer for Pomplamoose is Nexus 6.

13:30 - perhaps subconsciously he's mimicking a potential kick and snare pattern and overlaying this on the beats?
I think it makes more sense (when you've got a Bass in your hands!) To think of it along these lines so you don't think too much when actually playing and trip over yourself🤔

I stole the thumb/index/middle palm mute from Ben Jud. It's a really great way to approach a classic thump tone, even on my active bass with fresh rounds.

Where to start with his work? Which albums and records (or even band or projects) to star with?
