I love that he hops on it for the first time and does crazy wheelies. A year and a half into ownership of my Thruxton R, and I'm just now considering turning the traction control off.
Bike looks awesome.. it's just so damn pretty.. I hate owning a pretty motorcycle. I feel like I have to wash the damn thing all the time. I feel like I have to be careful not to dent it or scratch it.. I should really just walk into a dealership , buy it.. and tip it over in the show room so I don't worry about it ever again..lol .. I bet the reaction would be priceless..
+Deep South Moto I agree, I love my nuggety fireblade, I bought it with some marks and dirt on it so I don't worry about it. I used to be so anal about my BMW.
Deep South Moto @Ridingwithtom do you remember the 20k review kaw do you still like the sound of it or when you look back do you go wtf was I in about ?
I had a problem with my Triumph, revving it out on the track. I had to sit down and talk to myself and work out you have to ride within the Triumph's strength, It's torque, shorter shift and planning....MAN ! What a reward ! You will surprise quite a few super bike riders !!
I always felt like the new "classic" retro bikes from Triumph were a bit dull but the Thruxton R really brings back that spark that the real old Triumph's have.
I remember watching this video after pirchasing my Thruxton R in June 2016. I've had mine for over just eight years now still love it. I’ve got mine down to 11.6 second quarter mile ET and with a bit of aerodynamics and gearing 151.3 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
DanTheTwoWheeler Because once you've gotten 4-5 bikes of varying size to wheelie, it gets easier and easier each time. It's the same basic principle every time, so with his level of experience an hour on the bike would be more than enough to learn how to get it to wheelie.
Yeah I was just thinking if I got on a new bike and just blipped the throttle like that, would most certainly loop it :/ but then again I've only been riding a 125 :)
Mal Reynolds unless it's a dedicated track bike, there's no point in just looking for the fastest and best performing bike you can find and buying it. Just find a bike that you enjoy, whichever one has you smiling the most on the test ride. For some people that might be a thruxton and others a cbr, for me it was a street triple. And also the name meant nothing to me when I was looking for for my current bike, I couldn't care less if it said Triumph, Honda, Mv Agusta or kellogg's fucking corn flakes on the side of it.
Mal Reynolds yeah that's fair enough, most of Triumphs line up is pretty pricey and you get a lot of bike for the money with the cbr. I'll probably eventually end up on a super sport myself, if my back can handle it.
It's a media launch. Keep the riders happy and you get good reviews for Triumph. Piss a rider off by telling them what he can and can't do and you might get a bad review.
Nice vid. I bought the standard version. Loved the look. Didn't really expect the old school downtube frame to deliver, but it's as planted as a Duc. Too much fun. Now I gotta knock off that TC and try and wheelie the thing. You've inspired me!
IsDitGerben Nah that retro front isn't for everyone, no angles = no attitude basically. Most sportbike riders like a bike that's a bit edgier, literally.
Eliot Metherell exactly, i still think it is a beautiful machine, but I'm not a huge fan of the retro style, I much prefer the looks of a sport bike or even a naked :-)
Excellent vid Tom, one of your best. That bike looks awesome in those wheelie pics - will help them sell many more bikes which is probably why they kept asking you to do more and more wheelies - lol.
tried this bike, loved it! it's really good and a lot of character. Problem I had (with long legs) is that to make your legs fit nice into the "dents" in the tank, I had to sit quite far back on the seat, making me lean over quite a lot more then I was hoping for on the bike..
Tom: I have trouble getting my wheelies to happen. I have to run up the revs before clutch release to get it to come up. I saw in your video it didn't take much for you. That bike tuned or is it stock?
Dude you are legend! Inspired me to take my Thruxton chrome to the track…doing wheelies on 500 pounds of British engineering is another thing entirely though:)
Man, the temptation to buy one of these is real. My Daytona got stolen and written off so I sold it to a mate to track it. Now I've got money burning a hole in my pocket and an empty spot in my driveway.
Tom, legit suggestion. Y'could try and use these events and photoshoot opportunities to get a foot in the door, writing about motorcycles in a magazine or somethin', networking with the photographers etc ;)
that's a helluvatest!! I love the Thruxton, I think they made a great job with this new model.... great quality details, the modern electronic inside an old shape...
that braking has to be the ABS. same complaint about the new ZX-10R. They removed it on the newer ZX-10RR and the braking is much better. ABS makes it feel spongy
Do you think it can beat a 600cc supersport? I know the 600 will probably have a higher top speed, but does the Thruxton have at least the same acceleration or handling?
They just come out there? Or is the vid old? Been out in the UK for a while now. I've never rode one. The style of course is Marmite/Vegamite. Whats the performance feel like? Street/Speed Triple? Sportsbike like at all? Presumably tamer.
Hello guy ! I do not know if you already made a video about it but if it is not the case I would like to know what configuration you use for your videos, how you fix your gopro on your helmet? Use a microphone if yes which one? Do you retract the sound to avoid the sound of the wind and hear the sound of the motorcycle? What editing software does you use? I try to make videos and I would like a little help. Thanks to you, continue your videos they are excellent V Tom
dude sick wheelies. you have got to learn rear brake. i got on someone else's bike and scraped it to prove it can wheelie because he said it couldn't. and was this filmed before the broken foot
Tommo was the bike brand new and the brakes needed bedding in.....? I have one and the brakes are amazing.. I think :o) I rode mine like I stole it from day one and its a faster bike for it I'm sure.
The R is beautiful in its own right but the Standard 1200 really looks more the part of an authentic CafeRacer so that’s why I went with the base model. Sounds weird to me bc I’d usually go for the top of the line if it was a car or just any other regular looking/style motorcycle. But to be fair I like old air cooled bikes but my wife didn’t want me fixing any old bikes rn in this point of our lives so there goes why I got a new bike that actually looks old. Non-Moto people always think it’s some old Ducati LMAO kind of offends me LOL
...mate; what kind of slow speed is that? I mean is a track! and the other guys running at about 95km/h? at about minute 3:00 The rest of the riding is slow too. I have a thruxton R plus older Triumphs but I commute at more speed...what kind of test ist that?
You can rev the bike if you want, don't worry about comments. It's the reviewers duty to explore right into the bikes character or lack there of. The stock version is a very sweet bike also in a short test, even though I didn't feel the need to explore the higher end of the rev range, cause there's just so much fun in the lower rev torque. Thanks for sharing your experience and skills. :-)
I love that he hops on it for the first time and does crazy wheelies. A year and a half into ownership of my Thruxton R, and I'm just now considering turning the traction control off.
Awesome that the Triumph guys were so accommodating of the wheelies!
I'm all about that cafe racer look, good to see it being done with modern tech
Saw this bike at the dealership, pretty as hell!!
Bike looks awesome.. it's just so damn pretty.. I hate owning a pretty motorcycle. I feel like I have to wash the damn thing all the time. I feel like I have to be careful not to dent it or scratch it.. I should really just walk into a dealership , buy it.. and tip it over in the show room so I don't worry about it ever again..lol .. meant rev'ing
Rode one of these yesterday, what a laugh! The sound! The torque!
The other motto loggers need to get on Toms riding level.
MrFunnyMonkey Suburban delinquent has excellent control of his bike
back fire he beats the shit out of it, does dank wheelies and even drifts it when those desert roads are nice wet and oily
manuel grohse He's one with that GSXR, i like when BakerxD posts vids with Sub because watching him ride from 3rd person is great
back fire the custom blue silver seven fiddy
***** but mostly on the track.
How tha Frick can you wheelie a bike that easily after riding it for the first time for like 3 mins 😱
85+ tq makes it very easy.
Good? He's very choppy
Polothadon29
He didn't say he was good, he said he got it to wheelie easily. I can wheelie a bike easily, but my control is shit
DanTheTwoWheeler
Because once you've gotten 4-5 bikes of varying size to wheelie, it gets easier and easier each time.
10 seconds after starting riding you say "let's see if it'll wheelie"
i would go with this over any super sport on the road. so much swag on those things i love them
Mal Reynolds have you actually ever ridden before?
***** I'll take that as a definite no.
Mal Reynolds unless it's a dedicated track bike, there's no point in just looking for the fastest and best performing bike you can find and buying it. Just find a bike that you enjoy, whichever one has you smiling the most on the test ride.

I might only be 18 but my spine can not handle that kind of seating position right now.
The let you wheelie a demo bike and they didnt want to prosecute you and your family? wow
It's a media launch. Keep the riders happy and you get good reviews for Triumph. Piss a rider off by telling them what he can and can't do and you might get a bad review.
anything that can wheelie gets at least one automatic star
Ichiban Moto you should create an Ichiban Moto series Thruxton R. That'd be badass.
Welcome to Barny, done a couple of laps on that track, most of the time I’m hearing everyone else have fun while working the farm next door
I love my Thruxton R. Thanks Tom for doing the bike some justice.
i freaking love this bike it looks so cool and the performance seems good as well
Those camera shots the guys in the Van got are friggin sweet. Especially the formation riding.
I'm a little surprised and impressed how easy that bike wheelies!
Whats with the negative nancy thinking you were going to loop it? sounds like someone is jealous
+Ben Barnard he was just having a laugh, he is also responsible for all those bikes haha
ahh it makes more sense now! poor bastard's cortisol levels would've been through the roof!
after owning a fz09 (mt) these torquey bikes have a soft spot in my heart. I'm going to need another road bike as soon as I finish my r1.
Nice vid. I bought the standard version. Loved the look. Didn't really expect the old school downtube frame to deliver, but it's as planted as a Duc. Too much fun.
Now I gotta knock off that TC and try and wheelie the thing. You've inspired me!
Always loved the Thruxton...such a damn good looking bike.
What a beautiful machine, but I still prefer the looks of my little YZF-R125 😂
You must be mad
IsDitGerben
Nah that retro front isn't for everyone, no angles = no attitude basically. Most sportbike riders like a bike that's a bit edgier, literally.
Eliot Metherell exactly, i still think it is a beautiful machine, but I'm not a huge fan of the retro style, I much prefer the looks of a sport bike or even a naked :-)
One of the best videos you've ever uploaded. Want a Thruxton R so badly.
ApexIXMR me too.
Excellent vid Tom, one of your best. That bike looks awesome in those wheelie pics - will help them sell many more bikes which is probably why they kept asking you to do more and more wheelies - lol.
One of the most enjoyable vidoes ive watched on TH-cam mate and Ive watched a lot. Amazing photos as well.
Triumph's make that sweet low end power. What gear were you pulling the power wheelies in?
Might be a Thruxston R demonstrator going cheap somewhere in Melbourne soon. They do look cool and it's good to see they ride/handle well too.
love the fairing look, and that track looks great too
i test road one of these the other day OMG that bike is amazing in every way!
@5:00 Loz from Gizmag! Love that guy!
Cool bike, I have always liked thruxton. Keep revving!
looks way smoother than expected. nice vid mate
"You don't actually have to go fast.... You just kinda have to look cool and shit"
-Tom
Quick shifter please Triumph!
tried this bike, loved it! it's really good and a lot of character.
Problem I had (with long legs) is that to make your legs fit nice into the "dents" in the tank, I had to sit quite far back on the seat, making me lean over quite a lot more then I was hoping for on the bike..
Well done mate! That was awesome, love the edit.
Tom: I have trouble getting my wheelies to happen. I have to run up the revs before clutch release to get it to come up. I saw in your video it didn't take much for you. That bike tuned or is it stock?
What was your thoughts on the lower clip-ons when you rode the one with the fairing?
Dude you are legend! Inspired me to take my Thruxton chrome to the track…doing wheelies on 500 pounds of British engineering is another thing entirely though:)
haha sweet wheelies Tom, very cool 😎
Men, I don't understand anything but your videos are awesome and I must watch it :) Keep going
64 and looking for nice steady retro , then I see this wild video still ended up with a Thruxton though
Man, the temptation to buy one of these is real. My Daytona got stolen and written off so I sold it to a mate to track it. Now I've got money burning a hole in my pocket and an empty spot in my driveway.
5:06 and the award person he can't wheelie goes to the guy taking off his gloves. Tom had it under control.
8:03 you can see the brake fluid sloshing around, so cool
I'm not the only one that saw that haha
UnEvenEdits whats suhh dude, funny to see you here
Nice ride man! Cool wheelies!
that braking has to be the ABS. same complaint about the new ZX-10R. They removed it on the newer ZX-10RR and the braking is much better. ABS makes it feel spongy
How's your foot doing Tom?
Omar Chakkour still in the boot
Tom on another dream bike of mine! Love the video even before watching
Damn this guy can ride.
The photos turned out great!
Do you think it can beat a 600cc supersport? I know the 600 will probably have a higher top speed, but does the Thruxton have at least the same acceleration or handling?
im not sure if you remember since it was a while ago but how did the engine braking feel?
Tom what a great video! One question. Does it turn easily or do you need to drag it over to get it to turn at speed?
They just come out there?
Or is the vid old? Been out in the UK for a while now.
I've never rode one.
The style of course is Marmite/Vegamite.
Whats the performance feel like? Street/Speed Triple?
Sportsbike like at all?
Presumably tamer.
I remember from Tom's IG that this was a while ago.
Sleepingdragon 1
The style is Nutella/Vegemite.
Marmite and Vegemite are both shit, marmite is like Vegemite but more watery, equally bad.
Nice bike Tom, front wheelies for days!
Very nice looking bike hey!
Was this before or after your broken leg?
i think its before i remember som instagram fotos of this a while back
morphman21
No moon boot so it's before.
"RidingWithTom19 hours ago

Nice one Tom! Looked like a heap of fun!
Wicked back wheel action

+TriumphDay already done! Google ridingwithtom how to motovlog!
After the wheelie, the dude that was clapping, wasn't he from gizmag?
Dude, that's Loz from gizmag/New Atlas! That is so awesome!
+tommygun6866 yeah he's a top bloke, bloody good rider aswell
RidingWithTom drag him out on your next adventure ride!
dude sick wheelies. you have got to learn rear brake. i got on someone else's bike and scraped it to prove it can wheelie because he said it couldn't. and was this filmed before the broken foot
The man that thinks “you nearly looped it” needs some proper wheelie education.
Does it feel as quick as a 600cc super sport?
are you going to do Christmas sweaters this year?
What is the best color?
Tommo was the bike brand new and the brakes needed bedding in.....? I have one and the brakes are amazing.. I think :o) I rode mine like I stole it from day one and its a faster bike for it I'm sure.
Thanks for the video's you make Tom. Good effort, keep making them and hi from Nottinghamshire England. Andy H.
the DJI Phantoms do try to land themselves before they fully run out of battery
Where was this? Great review man. Cheers
Do you use any coulor grading when you edit coz im getting into making vids!

that bike sounds pretty nice
They will be priced right in three years when the depretiation sets it. At $16,000+ (US) OTR these wonderful machines are simply out of reach for now.
The start of the new drinking game, every time you say Frick take a drink
Got to get me one of those !
Awesome Riding & Vlog
whats your tyre pressure on the track?
...mate; what kind of slow speed is that? I mean is a track! and the other guys running at about 95km/h? at about minute 3:00 The rest of the riding is slow too. I have a thruxton R plus older Triumphs but I commute at more speed...what kind of test ist that?
Damn, I wished I had not seen this video. I already wanted one badly but now I insanely what one. Good stuff Tom.
Thanks for making this entertaining review video
Yo Tom, does the Bonnie pop up that easy?
What a legend! Phenomenal video!
Was this before or after the broken leg?
+ONLYJOKING101 this was before, I filmed this around the time I started posting my adventure series

+Troj4n Yeap I'll be there, look for the idiot in a moon boot
RidingWithTom Haha Should be easy enough

I don't know how triumph make these bikes handle so well. Some chassis wizardry
Is that Loz Blain at 5:00?
This vs the r nine t from bmw would be so cool
Satrio Sukarno Atmosudirjo yesss
did that photo go Viral? Im 100% sure I've Seen it before!!!!!!!!!

Love love love this video!!
