- Barbara Daniels - Klänge der Heimat, Ihr Weckt Mir das Sehnen- Die Fledermaus - Johann Strauss
This was a request
In september 1991 the Metropolitan Opera celebrated it's 25th anniversary at Lincoln Center by performing three different acts from a selection of popular Met productions. In the final act (act II of Die Fledermaus) Barbara Daniels performs "Klänge der Heimat, Ihr Weckt Mir das Sehnen".
We also see Hermann Prey as Gabriel von Eisenstein and Anne Sofie von Otter as Prince Orlofsky.
James Levine is conducting.
The idea behind these clips was to provide a High Quality clips on TH-cam. Unfortunately the YT encoding creates an artificial noise in the peaks. I hope you still can enjoy this. The Source for this video was a DG laserdisc.
The release on DVD is planned on May 3rd 2010.

This woman is amazing! I got to see her at the Met in the 90s singing in Falstaff.. WOW. HUGE voice, just absolutely extraordinary!
Fantástica apresentação (Metropolitan...) de uma das mais belas operetas já compostas, com os inesquecíveis cantores líricos, alguns em saudosa memora. Gracias!
Wonderful! I remember seeing her many times at the Met, although unfortunately often as Musetta. She deserved more starring roles.
She did quite a bit at the Met! She did Marguerite in Faust, Nedda in Pagliacci, Minnie in Fanciulla, Mistress Ford in Falstaff, and Violetta in Traviata. That's quite nice!
THIS IS REAL OPERETTA PRIMADONA! Born, not made! Thank you for posting! Happy New Year!
You didn't get my point. Apparently unlike you, I can actually understand the German libretto. The translator took a lot of liberty by inventing stuff that simply isn't in the original. There's nothing "royal" about her eyes ("Rufet die Tränen ins Auge mir"), the songs are not "passionate" but songs of her homeland ("ihr heimischen Lieder") and the fields are not "flowery" but "laughing" ("wie lachen die Felder"). The doesn't have to be literal or anything, but this is over the top.
Magnificent
Oh thats so wonderful...funny, a High D at the end - and in the "Watch-Duett, resp. after she had put the watch of prey in her Decollte and Pray said: Oh she put it in between Buda & Pest...So funjny....Daniels was so wonderful in this part
wunderbar !!!
Edit: The translation doesn't have to be literal
Brava, Brava. Gracias por permitirnos ver esta magnífica representación.
I remember this as a child. BD made a history. Her german is not great, but god what she does with her powerful voice. 👏👏👏
pretty good. high notes and low notes.
Brava, brava, brava!!!
Great! But what's wrong with the subtitles? "Royal" eyes, "passionate" songs and "flowery" fields? I don't think so...
One of the best productions of Die Fledermaus! Thank you for sharing🙏🏻
She really nails this piece...and what a killer of an aria it is! High and low, all over the place. All that, and she manages to be funny. Not bad.
I saw Millo back there... can we get her part uploaded???!!
춤추면서 이곡을 아주 즐기고 있는 모습이 너무 멋집니다!
