I love watching your videos. I got a good laugh when your zip lock bag busted with the okra in it. I knew exactly what happened! I reuse my bags too and they will eventually breakdown. When I was a little girl we saved our plastic bread sacks and reused them. Being frugal is a good thing! 👍

My mom and dad had one of those beautiful German chime clocks. Had to be careful to not wind it too tight. Funny when you live with it, you get to where you sleep right thru the chimes but when we had company, they would complain about being awake during the night with the noise! LOL we all love your chimes!❤ music in Oklahoma!

😅 Oops! One time too many for that bag! Just like we talked about the other day, life happens...roll with it! I've been known to use them over and over...they'll be hanging upside down drying all over my kitchen sink area.
I sure loved Old Alabama Gardner and his videos. I still watch, but it's sad that there's no more coming. I'm so thankful he was willing to share all that wisdom on You Tube.

Okay I just have to tell you a story I was such a awful kid 🤣🤣🤣 I hated cutting okra when I was young. Mama would send me out to cut it and I would get stung by the stalk, so I would cut the hardest ones and tell her it wasn't any good so I could quit 😔. When she would go check it. Later in the afternoon I would get into trouble by her😔 so I finally showed daddy how broke out I got from trying to cut it and he told mama to look at my arms she had a fit!!! She had never seen anyone brake out like that before. So from then on her and daddy cut the okra and I picked almost everything else I could. But yes I took many a hickery switch from my lies from not cutting okra🤣🤣🤣

When I was in my mid years I started a garden. The okra stalks got so tall it was hard to pick & I got the okra itch from picking. When I told my dad about it he told me when he grew okra & it got about hip high he would cut it back some. This would result in the okra growing bushy instead of so tall. If you decide to try this I'd do it on 1 or 2 to see if you like it.

Ole my goodness. When I clicked on OAGs page and saw he had passed it brought tears to my eyes . I had no idea . I leaned how to can okra from him to . He was a tough young man to watch in his garden. Yes it’s been a while since I saw his videos. I have so many that comes to my feed to watch . I did see one where he and his lovely wife went to Deep South Homestead. But I was thinking that was this spring . I guess not . Life is short . I’m 64 and I know my clock is ticking faster to . And with the way things are going we might not have to die because we who believe and love the Lord Will meet him in the sky . I just looked back and he went to Deep South homestead 5 years ago . Dang looked like it was this year .lol

My husband and I just put up 31 pre breaded quarts and are still picking okra at least one time a day. 😂. He finally bought a gallon of seafood breader and started tossing it in that. It’s really good 👍. We flash froze ours and vacuum sealed them in meal size portions. He preheats grease in a cast iron pan and puts frozen okra in there and cooks in the oven . Works great . I usually leave a few okra pods to dry on the stalk for next years seed. We grow Clemson spineless and red Jing . Both are great . I even snack on it raw. Of course I’m born and raised in SC so our blood runs slimey anyway😝.

I love every one of your cooking videos and am inspired by many but I have to say, that I will never fix okra. It isn't a vegetable I grew up eating. I did try it twice, once in a gumbo. It was the WORST (second to asparagus), slimy and just nasty! It gives me the shivers and not in a good way! 😊 Right now I have a huge pot of green and yellow beans, fresh from the farmers market with a cut up onion and a huge ham hock simmering on the stove. Have a good day!

Not much of an Okra fan, but we can learn to eat a lot of things if we need too. I have a clock my husband bought me when we first married. Lorie, I watch your video on spaghetti sauce & loved the BIG wooden spoon you used. You said you bought it at a flea market in Springfield. Is there still one open there? If so can you send me the name of it so I can call them to see if it still has someone making wooden BIG spoons?
Have never eaten okra, maybe because I have lived in Michigan all my life. My Mother & Father came to the USA in 1929 from Scotland. We were raised on rutabaga & ham bone soup. Never found the recipe after she passed, most canning recipes her in her head.
Another thing I miss is helping my mother make sweet green tomato pickles, come Feb. (snow a foot deep outside) my mother would say "sis go down & get a jar of green tomato pickles",😄😄 she didn't have to ask a second time.

I confess... I love okra but I NEVER had any idea of what it looked like in a garden. Thank you for always teaching me new things. BTW, the advanced copy of “Prairie” is on its way to your mailbox. I hope you enjoy following ‘young Frankie Harding’ across the prairie of the Nebraska Territory. Take a trip back into 1863 and get a little relief from this current world with all its troubles.

I must be and odd ball. I like fried only
. I can't stand it any other way. I a m 73 and I just love watching ya'll. I miss what I call the good old days. I catch your recipes and it want be to many days gone by that I have made the same thing. Love ya'll. If it's not to much trouble would you pray for me. I live alone but God gave me the strength each day to start canning again. I think I have finished now. My health has slowed me down doing it so I think it is the last one for now any way. Well I guess that's it for a while.

@@stanfromgeorgia3117 trying to do that in an apartment is almost impossible. We had construction and i had to bring everything inside, my plants were doing pretty well outside, but going indoors almost killed them. June, July and part of August until I could put them in the sun again. Never enough sun, but one is coming back to life. Saw new growth on one strawberry plant. They were lush and full with flowers and new fruit setting , until they were deprived of sun and heat . I doubt I'll get a single berry now.

This method really works. It is so easy. I have no excuse for letting a handful of okra spoil waiting for enough for a meal. Once again this woman is my hero!!

I'm also in North east Arkansas. My okra is the only thing that grew this year. If you cut up green tomatoes in it it's really good.

My Nanny always cornmeal and put it in the oven for a bit. Let it cool and freeze. That was before all the new stuff. Never freezer burnt. Always had fried okra at Christmas 💯💯💯
