I'm restoring a Granada Mk1 that has one of these Essex engines in it so will be following this with some interest to get some insight of what to expect and look for once I need to tackle the engine for a rebuild. Currently focused sorting the suspension and body work but after that I will need to tackle the engine.

Nice video of such a iconic engine. I would have used a different phrase to describe the condition of the valve springs lol

Just found your channel. What times did you run at the pod with the Essex ???

I watch a channel called "Techmoan". Moaney reviews cameras for cars and bikes on the move and stuff like that. He recently reviewed a 4k hands free camera that you might apreciate. He also has a muppet habbit.

Due to covid and all that crap this build has been on the back burner but will be resuming it shortly

So what's the status of this IKS "rocket" engine? Is it going to be as slow as a snail or fast as a cheetah or something in between?

It's getting a few modifications, it will breath better and is getting a performance cam.... Should liven it up!

Great stuff. Just finished putting back together an Essex from a Scimitar. My rocker posts were chewed and rockers themselves needed some refacing. How are yours?

They are in pretty good shape but the valve springs had not faired too well..... Hopefully have some time to make progress on this build.....

Sadly due to the last couple of years the work on this has been put on the back burner so to speak... however I'm hoping to get back on it in the next few weeks and get it up , running and back to its owner .

I’ve got a Ford Essex v6 engine in a trike so I’m not sure what car it’s come from. On the heads it’s got T1 and T2 is there any special way round for fitting these as they look identical, if I knew which engine it was I’d buy the Haynes manual.
    Cheers 🍻

Like the Pinto there are not many variations of the 3 litre Essex ... I know the early engine had a different head casting with a round inlet port, but most will be the later head with the D shape inlet ports, these are more common. Apart from that the only difference was the commercial version with a lower compression ratio and a single choke carb, or the car version which had the twin choke setup and a slightly higher compression ratio, this being altered by which pistons are fitted. Even the Capri 3.1 was basically a standard car motor that had a 60 thou rebore. ..If you need a manual then either the MK I Granada or 3 litre Capri will have all the info you need. As for the heads, yes they are the same and can go on either side.
