    I would need a step by step, color coded instruction manual just to figure out how to put the washers back in order. 😂 Very cool Tracy.. so important!!

    Great video , unlike my first operation on my new Shimano B-100 mag ( many moons ago ) i took it apart and destroyed the adjustable magnetic drag because I thought it might be limiting my cast , boy that was a mistake and lesson learned . I still have that old reel , learned to cast it very well and still have it today - I take good care of my gear and the the reel looks new and works flaw less .

      Hahahaha. Who needs brakes anyway right? Mine are actually all turned off in my curado k and I love it. Yes... take care of your gear and it'll last a long long time!!!

    I use a fox 20wt suspension oil on our reels. Same oil i use to service mountain bike suspension parts. It is loaded with friction modifiers and is good at repulsing debris. I also use sram butter mixed with fox 20wt in applications like seal heads. For bearings i found shimano special grease to last the longest while performing really well. Great for cartridge bearings or bushes.

    Another Good One. Thanks T, very handy information. Just know you can upgrade reels by replacing any plastics with metal pieces or when the plastics wear out. I did a little research on all of those parts. The major difference between $400ish reels and $100ish reels. Plastics vs Metals, # & quality of bearings, weight, size and knobs. Interesting, they are all somewhat related or have an affect on the other. Cheers

      @OldLadyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks David. Yes.... I was surprised to find that plastic washer in the vanford. Mostly because it's a successor to the Stradic... but stradic is all metal washers. Weird.

      @@ivanradi4275 I am personally a St. Croix fan, so I'd go with the Bass X. However, I did buy a M/H Shimano Zodias a few weeks ago and broke the tip off. My fault. Shimano is replacing it under warranty though. In the meantime, I just picked up a shimano Expride to give that model a try.

    Good video! I have two Vanfords myself, including this one. Unfortunately, my 2500 came out of the box with a sticky drag. I've taken it apart and tried to fix it and it's not as bad as it was but it still sticks a bit. No idea why, it had plenty of grease when I opened it and had no other problems that I could see. My 1000 on the other hand doesn't do this at all and has been a great reel. Something else that was nice to find out was that the handles are swappable. I prefer a longer handle than the 35mm that's on the 1000 and the handle from the 2500 fits it perfectly and is much more comfortable.

      Yes. LOVE my Vanfords. I now have a total of 3 of the 2500 and 1 of the 1000 models. They're all still perfectly smooth and I've had my first one since they cam out September 2020.

    What do you do after every use? Just hose it down? Also do you maintenance the internals or do you think it’s better to let someone at a shop do it.
    Thank you.

    • @OldLadyAngler
      @OldLadyAngler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't even hose it down. I only fish freshwater, so not worried about corrosion from salt. I will put a dab of oil on the gears and bearings I can reach without opening up the reel body. I've never done any maintenance on the inside of the reels. I've never had any issues with my Shimano spinning reels. However, I do send my baitcasters off for cleaning and tune up once a year. I send them to Shimano.

    Hey OLA! Currently piecing together a combo for my girlfriend. Torn between sticking with a regular stradic (which is about all I use) and getting her a vanford. Having used them for awhile now, would you still recommend them?

    • @OldLadyAngler
      @OldLadyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want to save a few bucks, I'd go with the Stradic. But I sure do love my Vanford. It will cast further and feels just a bit smoother than the Stradic. If I add another spinning combo, it'll be a Vanford.

    • @OldLadyAngler
      @OldLadyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I might add.... if you'll be fishing salt water, I'd definitely go with the Vanford as it is sealed drag and made for salt as well as fresh water.

    thank you for this. i dunked my vanford earlier today in the surf! i gave it a cleaning after i got back and now the drag tension knob doesnt click when tightening. the drag seems to be working fine, but i love the audible cue when tightening. any idea what it could be?

    • @OldLadyAngler
      @OldLadyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes... the little clicker tab probably broke off. It's on the opposite side of the drag washers.... take the spool off.... then look on the bottom. There's a small screw that holds a little tab on. Look at the video... at around the 4:35 mark.... you can see the tab.

    • @makingmovesz
      @makingmovesz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OldLadyAngler the clicker makes noise when line is pulled, it just doesnt click when i tighten the knob. is the tab you are talking about responsible for both sounds? sorry for the confusion, but i just wanna make sure before i order parts from shimano. thank you so much for this, you are the best.

    • @OldLadyAngler
      @OldLadyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OldLadyAngler on the 5k vanford the part number is "RD19767 DRAG KNOB ASSEMBLY." the part itself it is 8 bucks and s&h is about another 8. im going to give it a try. thanks for the help. i did stick an air canister spray to the underside of that drag knob cap. do you think that wouldve caused some damage?

    • @OldLadyAngler
      @OldLadyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@makingmovesz since you're paying $8 for shipping you might as well order yourself some spare drag washers?? That way you won't have to pay another $8 shipping for a $10 part? Yeah... that compressed air might have blown out a little seal or something. Let me know what you find.
