- After a house of the Tukuraki village in Fiji had been completely destructed by a land slide in 2012, including the death of a family of four which had been living there, the Tukuraki community had been relocated to a new area 1.5 hours by foot from its old location. On the one hand the relocation contributed significantly to improve the security and health situation of community members, but on the other hand leaving one’s hometown and settling in a new area comes along with challenges. For example, the area around the new location of the Tukuraki village is not as suitable for farming, so that many community members regularly go back to the old village for work and to secure their livelihoods.
