Building a network is my biggest challenge 😭

I think it helps to shift your idea what a network is. A network is everyone you know! If you’re looking for industry specific folks - join a webinar series or a local chapter of a specific group (e.g. R ladies or Data Viz for Good). I feel like network sounds like this big professional thing when really it’s really just people you know and that can be from anywhere - you never know who will be connected to your next opportunity!

I am interested in becoming a data scientist, and I've taken R, sas, sql and python. I want get certified in python while also keeping up my sql skills. I know I'll need either sas or r and I'm looking more in to SAS because I enjoy it more. Do you think either is more important than the other?

Great question! I think it is great that you have these core technical skills at your disposal - definitely puts you in a good spot to transition into a Data Science role. I can only speak from my own experiences and from that I would say I've seen R used more alongside python. I see R and python being the main languages used in the field while SAS may be more used in the stats world. That being said, if you have some specific companies in mind I would take a look at their job postings to see what languages they highlight as preferred skillsets/qualifications - this will give you the best idea of what to focus on!

@@exploringme4918 Thank you so much! I don't know if you have a video on this, but so you have any tips on applying and securing a data analyst position? I'm almost done with grad school and really want to land one before I graduate.

I don't have one specifically on that topic but do have a video on "How to get a data science job" - a lot of the same tips will apply! th-cam.com/video/soVyb2uaz2g/w-d-xo.html
My biggest suggestion, esp if you are in grad school rn, is to network through your school resources. Find out if they have an online job posting platform for companies - I know my university did and it is a good entry point to reach the right people.
Good luck on your next steps and I hope to hear about your success very soon! 🙌😊

Hey! Check out the UBC MDS website for the most up to date information on this:
      www.grad.ubc.ca/prospective-students/graduate-degree-programs/master-of-data-science
If you go under "Tuition and Financial Support" - They have outlined how fees work for the program.
      Hope that is helpful! :)
