Layla, very creative and helpful. I have been to Japan a couple of times but did not realize there were so many subtle distinctions between these two words. I am trying learn beginning conversational Japanese now as a beginner and your posts and videos are very helpful. Arigato gozaimasu, Wayne.

It's really nice to know which one to use. Been using duolingo and rocket Japanese. Duolingo doesn't really help which conversation and which situations to use the right words or phrases.

I think semimesen translation is better put as "I beg your pardon" or "Please pardon me".
I picked up the phrase 迷惑をかけてすみません, and I'm hoping I don't ever need to use it! 🤭
