Thank you for this video.Am just starting and gathering my supplys.Looks like a lot of fun.Love your journal. The polymerclay keeps calling me back, and I've been doing lots of drawing and coloring with my copic pens.I research my projects too.It helps me learn.Keep painting Sara Your awasom!
Excellent Video!! I have stamped, scraped, painted and a host of other crafts. Thank God I've already invested a fortune into my craft supplies!! Because as you made perfectly clear, Use what you have!! I have to second that emotion. You do not have to have all these expensive gadgets and other supplies. Use what you have and add what you can't live without! Anyway, I wanted to thank you for all your advice. I'm new to the new crazes of bible journaling, planner decorating, art journaling. Your advice is great for the beginner and advanced students of these crafts. Thank you again and be blessed!
Thanks Laurie. Yes, I have more than enough supplies to do most of what I want to. I bought lots of planner stuff and I don't use a planner. I got out my sewing machine again and am really thinking carefully before I buy too much stuff. TFW, SAra
This is a wonderful video for beginners. It covers the products and their use, all of which can be very confusing for the beginner. Good job! I'll be sure to let people know about this video.
Your work is so beautiful!!! (Around the 15 min mark - WOW!!) Your journal work is so polished....mine is so messy!! Thanks for sharing...very helpful!!
I love your colors. That's what caught my eye when l was looking for art journaling. I'm just getting started & your pages are an inspiration so thank you.👍👍❤️
This has helped answer some questions I've had about gesso and paint as I'm new to mixed media and want to get started. I've had experience in water colors, quilting, and pottery and have always loved stenciling from the 80's- puffy paint(ha) so ya thanks a ton!
I am 6 months in. I have bought quite a few fine art mediums and tools. I have learned fine art techniques as much as I have been able in a short time, but I finally- after buying over 100.00 of pastels this time, have now have white heavy body gesso drying on my large Dylusions Journal. I had not opened it because of needing white gesso, I only have clear which I turned into 3 products, lol---I added a few small stamp sets from Aliexpress.com- VERY CHEAP! I had a bad page I hated, I wouldnt work my book until it was gessoed over...it's drying and I am going to play tonight. I really enjoyed this video. I bought the Posca white marker way back in the beginning, for highlights. I cannot justify buying another white until I use it. Now I am buying a few stencils here and there next month, and the Tim Holz Chit Chats. I really do have an insane amount of stuff for being six months young! I went crazy.
Wow! U blew me away, I purchased journaling books, acrylic paint, I'm a card maker so I have ink pads along with stamps and stencils up the Diggy. However, I'm worried I'll freeze and stare at a blank page.your journal pages are gorgeous, your video was extremely helpful thank you so much I only wish my journal comes out looking like yours ha ha Ha.
this is probably the MOST helpful art journal for beginners tutorial I have seen yet.. (and I have watched a bunch!) Thank you so much for this down to earth and exrememly informative video!! :)
great tips...very helpful. I've been scrapbooking for a decade but I've recently tapped into art journaling...you have answered a lot of my questions. tfs😃
First, I'm Anita Monaldi, not Anita Black--utubes error. then I want to tell you how wonderful and helpful your video is! not only is it the most informative one I've seen on jiurnaling- but I felt as if we were neighbirs just having coffee and chatting. great!
Love love loved your video hun. Thank you so so much for helping me with wot I would need n that I dont have to go buy expensive art n craft products to play in my art journal.....I am so hard on my self...If my page dont look as awesome & colour popping as other ppls then I critisise myself real bad n that I have no place to be doing art journal coz I'm no good at say like yourself and others....I'm trying to learn that I will never be like anyone else n that wot I create is my own & my own style...but I get so stuck on wot to do I mean I can look at loads of art journals on pinterest or on here & I will try to copy wot they do but I dont have the same products/materials they use so then I'm like "well its gonna be crap then" (to myself) but I'm trying to learn I am.... I have so much inspiration around me but still I cant think wot to put in my journal (how do you handle stuff like that).? ....wot you sed about putting the tissue paper down first I thort was an excellent idea as blank pages scare me n that's wen I find I'm stuck on wot to do...so I'm going to take on board the tissue back ground as a starting ground for me ...maybe that will help with mojo 😏....hopefully.....wen I was so much younger my imagination was wild n vivid now a days it's so dark n blank I get lost.....thank you again for your inspiring video...happy crafting 😁
billie Jo hi Billie Jo. Yes art journaling can be intimidating. But all it is is a place to play. Let the little person in you come out. Just make some marks in beautiful colors and start a new page. There is no right way. It’s your journey. Just do what makes you happy. Tfw. Sara
OMGOSH I love the moleskien sketchbook. I have joined a swap for a Circle Journal Swap and I have watch a ton of videos and NOTHING seems to be what they are asking for. FINALLY I came across yours. I think I know what I want to do now. Do you have a website where I can see more of your work like in the last book. It is so awesome. Thanks for sharing.
+myserenitycrafts Hello again Sara, Do you ever join Circle Journal Swaps. I wrote to you a private message so we didn't fill this up with Chat, but must not have gone through. I would love to have a few pages in my journal done by you.
Where did you find the box with the squares for your paintbrushes? I loved it. I've been looking for something like that for my paintbrushes, & colored pencils. It was so cute & practical. I want one. TYFS
Kim Livengood hi Kim. I think I painted it in a class years ago and the teacher supplied them to us. I think it is just like a silverware holder for picnics or barbecue s. Sorry. I hope that helps. Tfw. Sara
@@myserenitycrafts TY I've seen the carriers like it. But I've never seen one with the little separating squares to hold each brush separately. But thanks for the info. Have a great day.
Was wondering what the pen was that you used toward the end of the video that you stated was clear and just added shimmer. I would love to have one of those! Thanks Tina
I use black gesso for metallic and pearl mediums, they pop much better on black, clear gesso is great for putting over tissue papers so you can use transparent paints over them, great for airbrushing backgrounds
I have a sketch book / notebook I want to use as a art journal, but I usually just draw stuff instead of painting etc. any tips for an artist that's new to making art journals?
I don't. Is the daddy vans like a wax? I think I heard about that. I probably should do something because my pages stick together a bit as they are. TFW, Sara
+myserenitycrafts Krazy Island Studios has an Art Journal 101 series on youtube where she talks about both the workable fixative and the daddy van's. I'm new to art journaling so I'm learning so much from all of you. Check out her series. Both products sound great. LOVE your work. It makes me happy.
i JUST bought that "art is" stencil and LOVE IT! have mixed some color in my texture paste and it IS fabulous!!! only used it twice but it will be a staple on EVERYTHING at least a little bit! love this video thanks for sharing
Ma'am, I LOVE the way you explain everything is just PHENOMENAL. I understand that many here on youtube are advanced and one day, I hope my journals look that gorgeous. However, there aren't that many videos that explain these techniques in such a way where a complete 100% newbie like me can understand the way you have! I have a question: I notice that some of your pages have these beautiful sheen to them. Is this an additional layer of a shimmer mist you spray on top or is it a shimmer mod podge? I have just compiled my shopping list of the items you were so generous to share so I get to see what works for me. And I LOVE Stickles too! I have liked your video and have subbed to your channel. THANK YOU!!!!
so sara, watching this again after my attempt to do a scene. do you gesso the focal points after matte medium? the keep the paper from pilling from the paint and water?
Carla Marlene no. I the the paper is pilling you are getting it to wet. Maybe try a mixed media journal it has nice thick paper. Dry in between applications too.
