Very nice! You had me at the Nipper! I collect Nippers and my favorite is one of the 3' ones that belonged to Elvis Presley. (He was given over 20 of them from RCA and passed them along to friends). Mine came directly via one of these friends in Memphis. I, too also collect vintage stereo system pieces and learning how to restore the electronics in them. Currently a woodworker and I love seeing the restoration of old speakers.
My Nipper was my Grandfather’s. He made it to 100 last year and was a huge collector of antique Victrolas. I also have one of those. He had a Jack Russel and you know what he named him. Thanks for your comments. Hope you enjoyed and subscribed.
@@juniordelgiorno5260 thanks!!! Nipper is now the official mascot for the channel. He’s in my latest videos too. I’m working on another L100 restoration that I should have posted in a day or 2. The intro is nipper running with a disco version of a Metallica Song playing. It’s hilarious
Wow! Those came out beautifully! You've given me some great ideas for my 4411's! I hope you don't mind me adding your video to my speaker restoration playlist.
Thanks. Yeah me too, I got into all the woodworking influencers on TH-cam about 10 years ago. Loved the process and all the before and after so much, I started doing it myself. Been a full time woodworker since 2017
JBL has a great sound in many of their models. The 4311 is a great alternative to the L100 and can be picked up at a much better price. Same drivers and crossover as the later model L100. The L46 L56 are smaller but killer.
Nice man! The pair in the video belong to one of my customers but I do have L112’s which are the home version of the 4411. I appreciate the dialogue, Make sure to subscribe
Great video man ! I am an owner of JBL L-100 Century series 2 that could use some serious love . All drivers are ok but the cabinet is hurting...big time . I'm an Electrician so I have none of the materials you are using and would really rather have an experienced woodworker do this anyway . I'm in the Boston area
A customer who lives in California just sent his L100 Cabinets to me 2days ago to restore. I’m in Illinois if that’s an option for you. My website is vintagejbl.com and has all the info
Suprised you didn’t go with JBLs once recommended finish of choice. I used it plus waxed with a wax blend and my speaker cabinets took on a very nice matte sheen that was silky to touch and see, while allowing the wood to still shine through
@@EggMCMUFFIN-e4l I’ve tried it and it works pretty good but on new veneer you can’t get the color. My L100 restoration video has the Linseed Oil finish with no stain or shellac
@ for sure. New veneer most times seems bleached and washed out compared to older veneer. The cabinet I restored had the most beautiful walnut veneer with all colors ranging from brown to dark red to some streaks of purple here and there in between. Stunning. The matte finish really does allow you to adore the wood grain, though I filled the wood grain of the veneer with a slightly darker tint wood filler to really accentuate the contrast in the open and closed pores
@@EggMCMUFFIN-e4l it all depends on what type of coating is applied to new veneer. The clear shellac really pulled the natural color out but was a tad on the yellowish orange side. The customer wanted them to have the same look as the JBL’s with the aged tone and color. If I put stain on first, it would have buried the natural grain. Glazing is just another method in my arsenal.
@ I would’ve used some darker amber or even a darker button lac if you go the shellac route. I love shellac but the sheen and grain pop you can get from BLO (boiled linseed oil) is amazing. Shit why not combine best of both worlds aha
Greetings everyone I have a set of these and I'm the original owner however I need to replace the drivers can someone help me pick out what I need. Thank you.

both. The 4412’s were mine, The L100’s and the 4411’s were from customers. I have an L300 coming up in about a month.
