    This is such a great camera for a studio video set, maybe even the best in its class and price range. -Clean HDMI out native in the options, never overheats when doing video capture on a dummy battery, very clean image and color control. I ran an interview setup with 3 cameras and a bunch of old Canon fixed lenses from eBay. The finished product is right on par with any top podcast.

    • @MarkOakleyComics
      @MarkOakleyComics ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-nm6if7kg3r It's a wired version of the actual chemical battery. It has a wire which comes out the bottom of your camera and you can plug it in for constant power. The A5100 actually has a little access hole built into the battery door to allow for the wire to go through it. It's a good solution for fixed position cameras in a studio or desktop environment. (It's also a requirement for the a5100 if you don't want the camera to overheat. Chemical batteries get hot during use.)

    • @jamesm1939
      @jamesm1939 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey man, i have 2 different sony a5100 and i even bought a new dummy battery from a different company - but my sony a5100 still overheats even though not recording and doing video capture to pc via hdmi. I'm wondering if there is some setting I am using that makes this happen. if you got any ideas id love to hear them

    • @MarkOakleyComics
      @MarkOakleyComics ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesm1939 I've never had that happen. Here are a few thoughts, (please ignore any you've already addressed):
      -Does it happen with both cameras?
      -Are you shooting in a very hot environment? (I've had mine running during hot Summer days, but not in direct sun and there was decent air flow.)
      -Are you keeping the screens flipped up? They can hold heat in the camera if they're closed.
      -Are you sure it's overheating and not just doing an auto-shut off (to save battery)? You might try checking those options.
      -I find the dummy battery power supplies are a little weak; if I try turning the cameras on with the HDMI plugged in, they sometimes don't have enough juice to power up. I need to power up the camera before plugging in the HDMI cable. (This is weird, because sometimes it's not an issue.)
      -Make sure WiFi and Bluetooth are turned off. Those chips consume power and contribute to heat.
      -Don't even put a memory card in the slot. Any less mass means more airflow.
      -I keep the camera set to the 'movie' option. (I do this, because it provides the best output HDMI quality for some reason. It makes a huge difference, between smooth and grainy. Maybe there's some heat savings in there?)
      That's all I can think of. Hopefully some of it might help.
      Cheers, and good luck!

    Got one new for a smoking $299. If you're just an enthusiast that is not satisfied with the pictures from your phone, no matter how pricey your phone was, get one. You will not be sorry. There's a plethora of lenses available. I even used with FE mount lenses, and results are awesome. But don't ignore the kit zoom lens, it is the perfect match to keep things small and portable and the quality of the pictures is high.

    I recently bought this camera 2nd hand as it was very cheap , soon realised that it was the perfect camera for my needs, I use a camera for taking photos, no video. I travel and need a compact, easy to use,hold and not too complicated. I paired it with a 16-50 pancake lens and it is great to carry, very small, has a significant range of zoom , has a pretty wide 24mm wide lens, its light. People dont even notice you are taking pics and assume my camera is a compact job. Its great for my use , ive had em5,em10, stylus 1,g85 and was never happy with the photos , they were always either too bright or too dark in the shadows, could never get any m43 cameras to produce the pics i wanted, the a5100 on the other hand i pretty much leave on auto and 95 percent are quite usable...

    I bought my first long ago. I bought another used one a couple years ago. I bought my daughter a used one. I have a useful collection of lenses. I also have a a6400 when i need better video. The a5100 is my absolute favorite. I may eventually add a zve10 as i agree that it's the closest replacement. I mostly use the ttartisan 25/f2, with occasional use of the Sigma 18-50, and even the 16-50 kit lens. It still kicks axx in 2024.

    These are becoming kind of like a cult classic. I looked all over offer up and marketplace, and everyone selling it in my local area were charging $350+. I figured it wasn't worth it so I spent the extra 350 to get a zve10 brand new that does 4k 30 and 1080 120, along with not having to roll the dice on the a5100s over heating problem. I know an extra $350 is a big price jump, but for someone that wants to just buy 1 product and have it last half their life, I think I made the right decision
    Edit: those prices where with after market stuff they wanted to bundle in, like a lense that I didn't want, or extra batteries, selfy sticks etc.

      Dood choose, zv10 good camera. I use recorder instead 3,5 mm jack. And when I was filming on my iPhone in 4k, I could crop image when editing in 1080p for transition in my talking head videos, so I can't do it with 5100 now.

      Not really. The best solution for IBIS in this class of camera is to not bother with the a5100 at all and just get a Panasonic G85 or GX85. Similar price range and specs, and the IBIS on the Panasonic is gorgeous.

      @MarkOakleyComics ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IAMMIKEO Yeah, from all reports, that's true. Panasonic doesn't have great auto-focus. I don't bother with it though; I use prime lenses 95% of the time. Just set the focus for vlogging at a comfortable arm's length, or set to infinity. Typically, I just use the little Sony HDR AS-300 (or FDR x-3000 if you want 4k) for walking/talking videos. They're getting expensive, though, on eBay. I'm glad I picked mine up back when they were still producing them.
      For studio stuff, the a5100 with a prime lens is great; just put your subjects in chairs and lock the camera. But some types of media really benefit from auto focus, and that's where the more expensive cameras become useful. I hope you find what you're looking for!

    Been getting paid using one of these with a couple different lenses. I've had my company's manufacturing partners wondering where we got some of our stock photos, only to realize I took them using this and a bounce card made with tinfoil.
