no pity. They need to be conference mates with CSU. They dont have what it takes to be in a power conference. They will dilute the Big 12. We already have Kansas, we dont need another Kansas. At least Kansas has basketball, CU has literally nothing but a pretty neat mascot.

I agree with Adam. Big 10 first, but unlikely. Then Big 12. Going to the Pac12 was not a good decision in the first place because of apathetic fan bases and administrations that have to have their arms twisted to value football, plus the time zone issues that limit viewers across the country. It could have worked for CU if they would have had proper administrative support. But the Pac12 is now finished. Big 12 has more support from administrations and fan bases. CU is now paying the price for years of very poor administrative support. CU fan support could ramp up again significantly!--but the administration needs to wake up.

Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, and the two Arizona schools go to the Big 12 to make an 18 team conference. Sports today is all about recruiting and recruiting today is all about NIL. Players are going to the highest bidder. If your administration does not buy into it, you are doomed to also-ran status. Oregon would be a great get for the Big 12 but I think they will find a way to get into the Big 10 because Phil Knight can't have his flagship school in a second-tier conference. AZ, ASU, CU and Utah will not bring the amount of money into the Big 10 to justify taking them but they will make good members of the Big 12.

Big12 has TV slots that are in better times to get more eyes from CST and EST. The PAC12, for all its leaders thinking they are savants allowed Larry Scott to put your Tier1 rights with Fox in 2014 which up until 2019, meant being on FS1 or FS2. But the BIG10 got the better time slots even when the BIG and PAC12 tier 1 games went to Fox. The tier 2 rights (2nd best game) was put on ESPN with prime time PST in mind at 7:30/8:00, which means 9:30/10:00 in CST and 10:30/11:00 in EST.
TV exposure and eyeballs to generate best Media Right revenues is the economic driver here. Also consider that with UCLA and USC going to the BIG, the other PAC12 teams that use to get to play in LA against USC and UCLA and thus better access to the LA Metro area recruiting base, that base is now going to be tied with the BIG10. So you are a top ESPN 300 type recruit from SoCAL, if you don't go to UCLA or USC, high probability you go to the BIG10 and now be able to play on TV in time slots where rabid football fans East of the Mississippi river see your games. I live in an SEC footprint state, you go into a sports pub/bar in SEC country and there are TV sets all over the place with multiple games going on in the 2:30 CST slot (CBS SEC game, ABC/ESPN/ESPN/SEC Network), the 6:00/6:30 CST on ESPN/ESPN2/SEC Network/ABC.
So if you are schools like ASU, Arizona, Utah, and CU, playing games against Texas schools gets you in the Texas HS football footprint. USC and UCLA have no incentives once they are in the BIG10 to schedule games with its former PAC12 members. Why would they?

The Big 12 is doing what they should be doing, going after teams after the news of the LA schools announced their leaving to the Big Ten. Also the four schools they reached out to are not at the top of the pecking order to join the Big Ten or the SEC. If Oregon and UW leave to the Big Ten, then it would be better for schools like Colorado to join their old conference, and maybe in the long run join a SEC or Big Ten.
