the tone does vary on the DC song but in the beginning you are probably hearing the bearings over the DC.

tim mose i tried in practice but the lure wasnt heavy enough to use setting 1 without blowing the spool up
I found setting 1 useless with up to 5/8 oz, big blowups even with spool tension tightened to no lure drop. 2 is excellent, something is amiss with mine because 3 casts further than 2 with more backlash. 4 works as designed. It is at my local Shimano guy now.

I have both reels. Love them both. I like my dc for the lighter 1/4-1/2 and my k for Carolina rig 3/4-1 oz.

Just came across your channel and this video in particular. My question on your testing method. Spool tension can obviously effect casting distance, how to you verify that you have an equal spool tension? In my head having a larger spool should allow for a longer cast in theory. For setting spool tension is there a way to let the bait slowly fall at a similar timed pace? Loose just seems open to interpretation
Great video; I have fished mid to high end Abu reels for the past three years or so; and never really considered leaving them until my last tournament when my MGX started to slip; at that moment, I thought, “what the hell, let’s follow Reel Test’s lead and dive into the Shimanos...” I relegated all of my Revos to my second line and purchased two Curado DCs, one Curado K, one Chronarch MGL and I was about to pull the trigger on a Aldebaran MGL50 until I saw your Scorpion BFS video (the last reel will be mounted on a Loomis 802 and used for light worm applications); as a matter of preference, would you recommend the Aldebaran or the Scorpion BFS???
I've set up both my K and DC 'exactly' the same, running the stock Shimano spool bearings but flushed and seasoned, even down to the same greases - wind ratios only differing.
The K can and will cast further in testing against each other running the same top shot PE and length, the DC just takes out the mid flight backlash...
Mind you that's casting from 5gr to 10 gr here in Aus, freshwater creeks for Aussie Bass, not much need for great distances - but accuracy is key.
Either reel works great, the DC just a better tool for windier days.
In my experience the dc brakes way too heavily for lures we use here in Australia. 9 or 10 gram lures are just too light for the thing and the distance is 70% of what I get with my conventionally braked reels dating back to the 90's. Ive had to stop selling the because of the number of returns I've had in the store that I work.

Have you ever tested a Revo Elite 7? My wife got me one for Christmas a few years back and it seems to be a pretty nice reel, It would be nice to know how the reels do compared to the reel that I’m using

Don’t know why I’ve waited so long to subscribe, I want to see Shimano SLX and Diawa Tatula 100, 150, 200 breakdown and cast test/on water reviews. I own both Curado and Curado DC currently and love em both just don’t like the bulkiness of the DC. I would be just fine with an arsenal of Curado K’s and Curado matching rods, which are pretty amazing! Nice videos, I appreciate your breakdown and casting tests!

I have a k and dc both paired with curado rods. Love them!
I spooled 8lb Slimeline on my Curado K and I can cast 3/8oz lures pretty far on a 7’6 MH rod. If I put a 5/8oz lure on that same line I can chunk it a mile it seems. Same as my DC with 10lb Slimeline. If you’ve never tried Slimeline I would highly recommend it. There is practically no memory what so ever even after it’s been on the reel for a bit, it glides through the guides like butter!
is Slimeline like Gliss?
Never heard of Gliss, but if it’s memory free or low memory than yes! It only comes in mono I believe though.

I never tried a DC reel, so I have to ask you: do you think the consistency of the cast would be in favor of the dc even in not-so-long casts ? Like in pitching texas rig/jig presentations ?

I agree with you, the dc was consistent throughout the casting battle. I would give this round to the dc just based on that.
I was fishing the DC today with a Chopcut and with 2 on the dial it was flawless.
My curado dc has almost taken over my spinning gear. 200ft casts arent important to me but casting a light jig on 50lb braid up wind sometimes is.
You also leaving out an important feature, is that the DC MICROPROCESSOR IS SUPPOSED to minimize or eliminate backlashes. Never mind the distances. Also the shallower spool will give a little faster during the initial "whip" if any of you out there ever had a baitcaster with a "V" spool it too was trying to achieve the same thing . You dont see many of those now days .
A Curado K with some Boca's abec 7's might be closer. Mine with a 3/8 oz jig really bombs.

I had the CURADO DC after a month of good use it started acting up had to take it back. For that kind of money it should last multiple years
I thought the whole point of the DC was to reduce backlash not cast further?

It's not really about casting distance, the dc reels are more for ease of use
I bought the casitas on amazon yesterday before they are all gone because I wanted the best 100$ casting reel, correct me if I'm wrong the casitas casts better, but the slx is built better. I also have purchased a daiwa laguna just as a backup reel because I thought It looked cool

I still can't get my DC to cast past 30 yards brand new out of the box (setting 2 with Braid), sent it in to Shimano and they said it had a bad bearing, now it only casts 20 yards. My 90's Quantum E500 is a 60 yard cast all day.
What brand line is that
Well I think I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on one of these. To be honest I think they both were very consistent with only that one cast throwing off the k's average. My only concern is with the DCs longevity. What kind of life expectancy are the other dc models getting?
the dc part is replaceable anyhow... the rest of the reel is just a curado.
The difference could be operator errors or change in wind. Difference is minimal
Every time I set the dial to 1 on the DC and I make a cast the spool just stops and I get a small backlash like a small knot gets tangled in the spool. Happens to my curado k at times too when I leave one break on. Can u help me with this problem? I’m a bank fisherman so I try to bomb baits out there.
Set the brake to 2 or adjust the spool tension. Obviously 1 is not working for you.
I really want to get a curado but cant afford one/: I got a revo sx 4 lefty and love it. So far it's been good. Any thoughts on how it stacks up against these?
Ive never fished one but I know the new SX has the dual brakes which are awesome and Ive read good things about it. I can only guess the Curado would be smoother because of the gears. No need for a Curado if you are happy with your Revo SX
I was an Abu Garcia guy for 20+ years but past few years quality is slipping and the bearings are absolutely terrible these days. I have MGX, ALX, STX ,SX revo s genaration 1 and 4 all but revo s genaration 1 need new bearings after 1 to 1 and a half seasons of use. A friend of mine dropped his shimano curado in a lake stayed in the water 3 weeks finally got it back and right out of water it outcasted and out performed my abu's. That's when I knew it was time to make the switch and not to mention the curado is cheaper than all my generation 3 and 4 abu Garcia's.
I had a revo sx and after 2 months of use the bearings began to get gritty, even after cleaning and oiling. I returned it and paid the $20 difference and upgraded to another Shimano curado K 201HG and XG, it definitely outcasts and out performs the Abu, definitely will stick with Shimano

DC casts further, that you proved. But which reel do you think is the better all-around performer in real life fishing conditions? Casting into the wind, skipping, etc. Say you only had 1 of these to choose for a day of fishing various weight lures and techniques, which would be your choice?
I had the DC out fishing topwater today, and it was flawless. Hard to say which Id pick because I like the adjustability of the SVS Infinity on the K which I think would make it more versatile overall. plus the line capacity
I have both the K and the DC! Both are great but in my opinion the DC out shines the K, skipping is flawless with the DC, casting is like it showed in our boys video very consistent, the only down fall is line capacity but no bass is gonna spoil you in fact I’ve fished for reds with it and not even come close to getting spoiled especially using power pro. Hope that helps you bud
i dont think casting distance is the main feature of any baitcaster reel.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the DC isn't about being able to cast further, its about computer intelligence helping to minimize back-lash.
Correct, but they go hand in hand. One would think that by being able to computer control backlashes, that they can push that reel harder yielding in farther casts.
It's all about the bearings. You can take a cheap reel and make it just as good. If you know what you're doing...
Yes but bearings can get expensive buying 3 bait cast bearings good ones is almost the cost of a shimano curado lol.

To keep it simple for viewers. For the money get the 2017 Scorpion DC. If you want to step it up get the Metanium MGL. Of course these are high end reels.
If your new to bait casting get the SLX.

But if a useless test as with these reels it's not about distance as such ut about casting accurately and not bird nesting the line as often. So a better test would be skipping lures around snags and see if it handles that on it'd own or still needs that precise thumb control

you just have to check around.
Now the SLX?
DC. Dont always mean longer casting. It means more accurate braking for less backlashes. You will need to accurately tune the K and avoid wind to cast that far and no backlash. I think the DC on the curado might be different from the DC on metatanium.

Daiwa has nothing to compare to Shimano DC
Dc is just easier to cast and reduce backlashes and just has a few more bells and whistles

Ofcourse the dc will not cast as far its more limited on how loose you can make it. The dc is meant more for consistency. Think of it as a car wear one can be manually controlled so you can make it as fast as possible. Only problem is it losses traction a lot. So new one comes out with a computer to wear it controls output so it gets the maximum traction. The one with the computer will be constantly fast. The other will be faster at times because you can go wide open but inconsistency so will be slower at times because of traction. Its the same thing

THE REEL TEST Sure. In Singapore, it is going for S$250 only. Like I said, over here they can't priced it at US$250 given we have the Scorpion DC which is going for US$260 and it comes with I-DC5.

No One i noticed that too when the DC is ment to be practically thumb free he thumbed it yet the K his thumb was no where near the spool

Now this is just me, but I am usually casting to a target, so none of this would matter to me at all. Most who fish, are casting to a target unless they are fishing in open water and not knowing what is under them, so again, this means nothing. The K casts farther, but not as consistent, and yet again, does not matter. We all thumb the spool to get that lure where we want it. I can cast plenty far enough with my $130 Tatula.
Ok so if you have a choice of a Chronarch CI4 or these two reel which one would you pick...
Couldn't handle that annoying noise from the DC. Would drive me and anyone else in ear shot mad. Plus it doesn't look as good as the K. Both great reels but aesthetically and for its lack of horrible noise it's got to be the K for me.

DC = for noobs less backslash. For seasoned pro fisherman save the cash curado k is for you less gimmick.

I object. Coz night time fishing is a pain in the ass to thumb without seeing your lure hitting the water surface. Obviously will backlash atleast 1 out of 10 . But if you have a dc , that issue can be nullified.
