Never could I have imagined a live version being ten times more haunting than the studio version. Wow. Wowie. Thanks so much for recording and sharing, amazing quality.
Софья Горшкова Yea actually i think hes bi as well(i didn’t before). I’m pretty sure this is a fictional story tho, either that or its from someone else. I’ve heard a lot of people say that this isn’t something that happened to Sufjan. Either way, gender is never mentioned in the song so its whatever the listener wants it to be.
Thar's exactly what I though. An empty concert hall, a silent song, and NOBODY says a word. That's how capturing his performance ist. Hope to see him perform live one day.
It's amazing how God has used Sufjan in my life. His lyrics really take my breath away and remind me of how fragile and mortal we truly are. Thanks for posting this, one of my favorite renditions of this song I've seen.
@@bobrossantichrisst imagine saying this on a Sufjan thread 🙄🙄🙄 Of course they're gonna be people here who shares Sufjan's spirituality and they're gonna open about how they connect to his songs. I'm assuming you're gonna sat "God is dead" in your mind everytime you listen to a Sufjan song?
Now that I fell into your arms My only lover Give out to give in I search for the capsule I lost Drag me to hell In the valley of The Dalles Like my mother Give wings to a stone It's only the shadow of a cross I slept on my back In the shade of the meadowlark Like a champion Get drunk to get laid I take one more hit when you depart I'll drive that stake through the center of my heart Lonely vampire Inhaling it's fire I'm chasing the dragon too far There's blood on that blade Fuck me, I'm falling apart My assassin Like Casper the ghost There's no shade in the shadow of the cross
Him ending the song and then exhaling into his palms was something I hadn’t observed in pervious viewings. I saw this tour in Cincinnati, and he commented that at that particular show at the Aronoff marked their 90th tour date. I’m sure he was exhausted playing these songs, but what a gift to see. One of the best memories I have.
This song makes me weep until I can't produce any more tears and I can breathe a little deeper, and then relax and fall asleep the second time I hear it.
"I was so emotionally lost and desperate for what I could no longer pursue in regard to my mother, so I was looking for that in other places. At the time, part of me felt that I was possessed by her spirit and that there were certain destructive behaviors that were manifestations of her possession". I think this is about a whole lot more than just drug use, I think that's just one of the destructive behaviours he refers to here
I don't think this is about drug addiction. I think it's more of how his behavior became self destructive after his mother passed away. "Fuck me, I'm falling apart" is when he notices that he's being self destructive. Drugs do come into play though, but because he wants to commit suicide, not because he has an addiction.
Oliver, I'm a huge fan and know Sufjan's music (live and recorded) like the back of my hand. He is absolutely not lip syncing. If the video is ever so slightly out of sync, it's a TH-cam thing. The sound quality is so insanely pristine and he's so fucking good, it'd be easy to think that.
Thank you for this AMAZING recording! I saw him in Stockholm on the same tour and it changed my life... I have yet to witness something as emotive and beautiful as that night! Thank you for letting me "re-live" it through this video :-)
I wanted to see his show soooo badly when he came through Columbus, but tix were like $50 and it's kind of far from me. I nearly cried lol he was so close yet so far away.
+M L Thanks! I've now uploaded all videos from this concert. I do have a full audio recording that I will eventually upload (not here on youtube), but it will take me a little while to catch up. I also have videos from the other UK shows, though - coming soon.
+Rairun Amazing audio quality, Please, let us know when you upload the audio recording. I´d love to listen it. As some said on a critic of Barcelona´s past week concert. Best concert I´ve seen, since I sow Sufjan in 2011 and until I see him again on the next tour.
I'm trapped like fly in the sticky web of his songs
Good God, I bet you could hear a pin drop in that venue; so captivating.
He is fragile but still daddy af
omg lol
🤣
HAHSGAHA
this album must be really taxing to preform live
Fuck, how can he perform live and sound so angelic like that.. Those one who saw this concert must be feel so blessed.
I dont understand how Sufjan can be 41, he seems like he is like 25!?!?
jonathan hart He was 29 when he released Illinois.
Lol i am 20 and i smh happen to look like 35
He looks WAY younger omg
Yeah he's such a daddy😍
clean living, chewing thoroughly, and a daily dose of vitamin church
so much emotion and his eyes are shining and he just puts his head in his hands when the lights go down ugh bury me
Same. 😭❤❤❤
The "Say yes to Michigan!" shirt is 10 YEARS OLD god I love this man so much
He paints pictures with his songs like no one I’ve ever heard
Never could I have imagined a live version being ten times more haunting than the studio version. Wow. Wowie. Thanks so much for recording and sharing, amazing quality.
+spoocyguy you apparently don't listen to much zeppelin
+Joshua Jordan fuck zeppelin
+spoocyguy Right? I am mesmerized.
+Dani Livingstone The exact word I used.
But studio versions sound more hypnotic tho. Having two different sufjan from both sides. Pause.
this is like falling backwards in slow motion as you drift out of consciousness and fall asleep for the last time
What a poetic (and quite accurate) description.
"Fuck me I'm falling apart"
I can handle everything till there.
I was at that gig- it was an unbelievably wonderful performance...
i’m in so much pain
He makes me want to weep. I would marry him in a second.
Ree Jones 😂😂
He’s all mine.
He’s gay, I don’t even think he’s bi. Unless anyone knows but I only hear him talking about fucking dudes
@@demifolk8940 but isn't "casimir pulaski day" about his girlfriend? i'm pretty sure he's bi

It's been 6 years?? Goddamn! Still the greatest album ever
You know true soul when you can see the vibrato in the lip.
He's definitely not lip synching, he's just that damn good.
+johnny Smith Lip syncing is very rare.
+Zachariah Renken If you've ever seen anything Katy Perry has done live, you'll know that lip syncing generally isn't even necessary to retain fans
+Mutantcy1992 She probably only does it when she's dancing. It's not like she can't sing...
Zachariah Renken I think she ended up getting singing lessons or something. I saw a live performance of I Kissed a Girl and it was insanely bad.
LOL! "that damn good"? I like his work but "average" discribes his vocals. Get off the pot. Dime a dozon vocals.
he's wearing the shirt
This is my favorite Sufjan Stevens song. It's just the perfect blend of sadness and Christian symbolism.
My mum passed away in December last year. She had schizophrenia, this song makes me think of her! I loved her dearly!
Wow that the audience is so silent
Thar's exactly what I though. An empty concert hall, a silent song, and NOBODY says a word. That's how capturing his performance ist. Hope to see him perform live one day.
I actually started crying

Evan Huckabay god is dead pleeb
There's no God, I found him by myself, I take the credit.
asris pant false!
Same.

Now that I fell into your arms
My only lover
Give out to give in
I search for the capsule I lost
Drag me to hell
In the valley of The Dalles
Like my mother
Give wings to a stone
It's only the shadow of a cross
I slept on my back
In the shade of the meadowlark
Like a champion
Get drunk to get laid
I take one more hit when you depart
I'll drive that stake through the center of my heart
Lonely vampire
Inhaling it's fire
I'm chasing the dragon too far
There's blood on that blade
Fuck me, I'm falling apart
My assassin
Like Casper the ghost
There's no shade in the shadow of the cross

Unbelievably haunted and sad. The pain of forgiveness- a beautiful sound to find it in. I don't know if I can do it.
He is so amazing it hurts
This might be my favorite live vid of him ever. This is absolutely beautiful.
Wow, this made me a bit teary eyed.
HOW DOES HE SOUND EVEN BETTER LIVE THEN ON RECORDING????
Thank you for cutting out the applause.
these lyrics, i've got goosebumps.
I feel like no one claps or cheers at a Sufjan concert, they just stand around
That's how concerts should be.
There has been an uncountable number of songs written about drug use and addiction. This might be my favourite of them all.
"I was so emotionally lost and desperate for what I could no longer pursue in regard to my mother, so I was looking for that in other places. At the time, part of me felt that I was possessed by her spirit and that there were certain destructive behaviors that were manifestations of her possession". Please listen to people turn around and salt in the wound by delta spirit! One of the most emotional songs about addiction
This and Needle and the Damage Done are my favorites on this topic. Cut straight to the heart.
*IM NOT CRYING YOUR CRYING* 😭
that vibrato much love
this song gives me the chills holy fuck
I wish I could see him live, I don't care what he sings, I just want to be in that atmosphere he creates.
The moment he opened his mouth my eyes got teary
His little shivery vibrato just slays me. ⚰ It's so beautiful. 😭😭
Sufjan is such a blessing. God bless him
Wow, I'm blown away. This is just too perfect.
Whoa, how does he do that?

I can barely make it through this song without crying. I don’t know how he manages to perform it. It’s beautiful but gut wrenching.
this is is just. wow.
this song is killing me. THANKS SUFJAN
loved this video. thank you!
Thank you

Thank you for this! Beautiful quality :)

Beautifully performed.
Wonderful.

👏👏👏👍 muy lindo tema 👍
Your videos are hauntingly beautiful
perfect man
Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique

the way he sings "vampire" is mesmerizing for some reason, his vocal color is so so gorgeous
Oh wow.
superb.
я плачу
only 7 dislikes, 7 too many, but wow even the internet can't deny his genius
those high notes might not be his advantage but damn i would die for that soft angelic voice
this transcends all of the pretensions of manmade society
Just covered this song myself it’s one of my faves.
All hail Sufjan
No words
Can he come back to Edinburgh please I missed this one :'(
💛💛
Say yes to michigan
Pesadíssimo
Dear god
Holy shit.
I really Really want to go for.a concert
Woah
I wanted to see his show soooo badly when he came through Columbus, but tix were like $50 and it's kind of far from me. I nearly cried lol he was so close yet so far away.
fuck me, i'm falling apart
Is his voice heavily compressed. How are they getting that sound from that whisper?
q isso maninho
Poisé, mano véio.
Scotland and Sufjan Stevens best match for me! Only a nice whisky by the side next time ;)
bitch im cryin

+Rumano Power I taped the Barcelona and Madrid shows too! I've just got home from Spain. I'll try to put them out soon as well.
Wow!!! It´d be really good to listen it again. Thanx!
The quietest crowd
does anyone know what is the name of the lady singing in the background?
Think he has heard Simon and Garfunkel a few times?????
I'm in love with this whole thing and especially Sufjan himself but... his vibrato... 😭 oh my God. And... that little smack at 2:34. ❤
Fuck me im falling apart
I wanna marry him
