  • During the 1950's and 1960's two southern gospel groups dominated the industry. The Blackwood Brothers, and The Statesmen with Hovie Lister. Their music was exciting, upbeat, meaningful, and cutting edge. Some of the older songs have been forgotten as time has passed. Here, together, as they so often travelled that they had buses painted alike, they each sing two. The Blackwoods - "Everywhere He Went," and "I Wanna;" and the Statesmen deliver - "Rock a My Soul," and an unusual boogie-woogie style song, "Satan's Boogie," written by Roy Abernathy. When you've finished listening you'll probably find yourself singing one of these tunes tomorrow. Their kind will never pass this way again! If you love the quartet sound, this is where it got its soul.
