This is brilliant. I have a 5 month old Border Collie and she's really great with my chickens although they sometimes chase her instead. I have videos of them on my channel doing that! When she's a little bigger maybe I can teach her to do this too :) I love Sierra, she is really beautiful.
I am legitimately watching this because I have a cat who acts like a dog and we are getting chickens soon and I wanna tech her how to be around chickens
how do you train away and come by? I have a pet border collie currently whos very low key, we live in a suburban area and bike and do a lot of fun training. i'd like to get another collie in the future when we move on a farm and do some herding work, but cant seem to wrap my head around the come by and away commands and how you'd even start training those!
We started with putting a chair in the middle of a room and having her go around it clockwise, by having her follow a treat in my hand, and rewarding her when she followed. Eventually we generalized to going around larger objects and other things. Eventually we introduced the other direction as well. Before we knew it she was going around chickens.
What commands did you start with for herding? I have a 4 month old BC and so far my 6 chickens gang up on him so they aren't scared! How do you suggest starting from the very beginning to get him where Sierra is?
When Sierra was 4 her “herding instincts” were just beginning to kick in and she was just starting to stalk. The first thing you want to do is make sure the dog is interested in the chickens. Maybe separate the chickens so that they don’t gang up? Poor pup! And also, make sure he’s on a leash when starting with the chickens so doesn’t inadvertently hurt them.
When a dog listens to your every command it’s the closest thing to magic you’ll ever experience.
She's so excited to do this.😃

Smart pup!! How did you ever teach her to NOT eat the chickens???

My border collie tries to herd my parents cats 😂
Smart girl Sierra ❤️ love you
Great work man!
You have to do a new video so we can see how Sierra is doing now. I really want to do the same.

So… uh… how did that turn out? 🧐😳🤣
Yeah. Good luck with that.
I seriously want to know how that worked! Cats are so funny and when they act like dogs, they are even funnier

Beautiful dog; I got my border collie as a used model because he killed the chickens. Turned out to be an excellent dog and my best friend.
