The statement that Zamorins, Travancore and Kochi were always integrated with the rest of India is an oversimplification for three reasons. The concept of United India did not exist until the late 19th century, it was divided into many different kingdoms. I’ve spent 12 years in Germany. As a foreigner I found it to be full of very cold and distant people. The time I was living there we never really had one friend there other than 2 other Indian students who came to study in Germany. My kids who were born there were also excluded by the parents of other kids there because we are different and non conforming. My kids had one or two friends at most. And they have never come to our home for play time. You must note that this is not racism as even white immigrants to Germany face the same issue. Anyway we returned to Kerala 3 years ago, I was afraid that my kids would find it hard to adjust. Within 45 mins of them going to the park in our community they came back with more friends than they had all their 10 and 8 years in Germany. They don’t want to go back ever. Three years later me and my wife couldn’t be happier, of course we make less money but we live among people who know how to love others and spread that love no matter how strange the other person seems. The people here know how to connect with other human beings from different cultures and languages. Thats why they’re happy even though they don’t enjoy the highest standard of life like in Europe or USA. Our kids have entered high school and embraced Kerala as their home. They couldn’t stop talking about pop culture and movies here. It’s very interesting to watch them discover Malayalam language movies and music.
