    Keep in mind that Hector has Strategos, which turns both of his LT orders into regular orders. Throw him in a core link with either a Nyoka or Beta trooper, add Parvati for a specialist and a means to doctor/engineer the link member aback up, and sprinkle in some Psi cops for flavour.
    With this core link, even if you only build a 10 model list, you'll still be operating on 12 regular orders.

    • @the_infinitygamer
      @the_infinitygamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True but limited insertion can now have 2 orders stripped so you can lose that benefit. Plus, don’t you find Parvati very expensive for what you actually get?

    • @calza27
      @calza27 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@the_infinitygamer if you've got Hector in Starmada, chances are he's going to be in a link team. You're going to want to be activating that link as your main attack piece, and so you were never going to be able to spend the LT orders on him anyway. So if he didn't have strategos, you'd have 10 orders plus 2 LT orders that are probably going to waste. If you get stripped two orders, you'd now only effectively have 8 orders. But with strategos, you're being stripped from 12 to 10 orders. In that case the strategos + 2 LT orders are your insurance against that command token when going first.
      As for Parvati, yeah she is expensive, but consider that if Hector goes down, she has a 75% chance to pick him up to full health (ignoring cube reroll). In a 5 man link she has burst 5 BS 15 SMGs, and a WIP 15 flashpulse, as well as being able to repair the Beta trooper in the link. I see her as being insurance for the link team, as well as a very reliable specialist to hit buttons.

    • @the_infinitygamer
      @the_infinitygamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you think he’s better as a turn two/three attack piece just in case you lose his orders and go into LoL?

    Hi Infinity Gamer and Community. I'm brand new to O12 and infinity. Picking it up as all my Malifaux friends have moved over with the start of N4. I listened to the first half of your video and was saying "yeah, yeah I agree!" Writing an O-12 vanilla list feels like you're in a Candy store. Writing a Starmada list feels like you're getting the groceries... One or two treats (they don't have the ones you *really* want) and then try and find the things you need.
    Question about Guard though.... Pretty sure it needs LOF so you cant Melee over that wall or around the corner?

      Completely agree, vanilla has so many options and it feels hard to make a bad choice - finding good synergies just unlocks even more awesomeness!
      Correct guard needs LOF so while hacking doesn’t it’s still a great way of giving your opponent a terrible choice.

    Hi, I started Infinity with the JSA , out of style reasons ( love space samurai & ninjas ). Only to find out that the are a Close combat army with low BS, witch gave me a hard time in a very ranged weapon shot em up game like Infinity. ( main opponents are pan-o , nomads , aleph ) So running at the the enemy was a bit of pain.
    But I did learn a lot over time & how to get them into cc or use the limited bs that I have to my advantage.

    • @the_infinitygamer
      @the_infinitygamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve gone against JSA a capillary of times and they’re one of the toughest opponents I’ve faced. With infinity tables having so much terrain it’s easy for them to get into CC and destroy key units thus weakening an attack. Look for precision strikes on key units with low cost units and you’ll decimate your opponent.

    In some ways, this sounds similar to a lot of issues I'm running into with vanilla versus sectorial for my Haqq force, however we at least have three choices (four if you include Dashat) for such versus just the one. I also definitely feel that TAG conundrum, given that the main TAG I have access to is 81-88/1.5 points, with the light one being 58/1.5. I'm still having a huge conundrum of vanilla versus Hassassin versus Ramah - I love the options...
    Gotta say though, they've been knocking it out of the park with the O-12 sculpts, they're so insanely tempting to pick up, even though I've got a massive backlog!

    • @the_infinitygamer
      @the_infinitygamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@the_infinitygamer That's an issue I keep running into myself. The murder scorpion (aka Maggie) can be a powerful tool, but I've also seen it used in various ways. What I'd love to learn though is the art of using TAGs.... As decoys, and things to make the enemy burn tokens to try and remove, only to find out that oh, destroying it doesn't hamper your gameplan...
      Truth be told though, I initially bought it because it was cool, I don't even know if I had looked at the rules yet before I purchased one...

  • @headchime9217
    @headchime9217 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The trick to the Zeta is the climbing plus, which makes it worth every point you spend on it. Most tournament tables will have a few buildings just outside your deployment zone in order to provide cover. The Zeta can climb these and shoot down at enemy units in the opposing deployment zone. It's remarkably common for people to put prone troops on a rooftop in order to hide them. The Zeta removes this strategy. It's very, very easy to put people into t1 / t2 loss of lieutenant with a Zeta by exploiting height. Climbing plus TAGs are absurd.
    The alpha is the best LT in O12. Easily. I've played the faction since they were first released and rarely strayed from the Alpha. The combination of providing 2 regular orders, along with counterintelligence is profoundly good. 24 points for 2 orders is averaging 12 points per order, which is great. It's an effective counter to impersonators, it shoots decently, and discovers well. It's not an aggressive LT but it lets the rest of your list be more aggressive by providing more order flexibility and stopping your opponent stripping your orders. Throw it prone inside a building and leave some order providers to guard it, such as varangians, and you're done.
    I think the spotlight as ARO strategy is a nice idea but extremely risky in practice. Last time I counted (which to be fair, was in N3), a full 33% of models in the game had stealth. Stealth renders that entire spotlight idea ineffective because they can move past repeaters and provoke no hacking AROs. And the units that usually have stealth tend to be midboard pieces that are in a good position to kill repeaters. I've both played the guided strategy and had it played against me and it's rarely that good, if the opponent uses the correct pieces to threaten the midboard. If they screw up and do get guided then obviously you can go to town. But if they use a camo troop then they can move around with stealth, reveal to shoot, and then even if they get targeted, they can enter a marker state to avoid being shot. Job done.
    I've found O12 is very swingy at midboard control. They either win big, or lose big. The two Sirius + Gangbuster strategy is a quarter of a list deployed in one of the most dangerous areas of the board, with no marker state, one wound each, and low armour. If the opponent isn't running skirmishers and drop troops then they will absolutely do work. If the opponent is running those troops then they can easily put templates into the rear arc of your PH10 dudes and have the midboard cleared in a few orders. Shotguns gaining a direct template mode is a significant nerf to the Sirius and Gangbuster, when playing against skilled opponents who can use camouflaged troops well. When I was grinding tournaments with O12 I relatively quickly switched to 2 Gangbuster and 1 Sirius. The madtraps are much better defence than the Sirius' remote against the kind of units that are best at killing Gangbusters and Sirius. The madtraps also function if the controller dies, whereas the Sirius remote doesn't. Clearly it's a meta thing and all lists work in some missions against some opponents, but midboard pieces without camo are easily punishable as a general rule.

    • @the_infinitygamer
      @the_infinitygamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The climbing plus is a big deal so long as a lot of your terrain enables full cover for a TAG. I haven’t tested it yet but I’m not sure the Wildfire/Kaldstrøm buildings enable that.

    Getting the guided to BS19 may seem good... But really not worth it. Hitting on 18s is sufficient, use those resources elsewhere IMHO.

      Valid point, it is a bit of overkill but could be good against something with dodge bonuses so pretty situational.
