You actually don't look so bad, i've seen a lot of first time riders and you seems relaxed and comfortable. I'm sure you'll learn very quickly. I've been riding for over 20 years, i still love it and i still have a lot to learn. Only advice i can give you is to always keep it horse friendly, keep in mind it's a living creature, don't treat it like an object. Learn about the way they communicate, adjustyour body language accordingly and enjoy the connection with them. They are truly magical creatures, very calming.

Next thing you know you'll be buying your own and having them make a guest appearance at your wedding like me hahaha I know you enjoy reading so look into books by Sylvia Loch or Arthur Kottas for information on correct riding, they are literally like my bibles. Honestly the more you delve into horse riding the more you realise that it really is a fine art and that every horse is different and has something to teach you. I hope to see you post more about your riding journey! I went to Staffordshire university and trained at a place called courses for horses. I actually started their equestrian club which is still going strong! We competed again birmingham university a few times and I have some contacts from BU so I'll message them and see if they have any recommendations for horse riding establishments :) xx

Hi. I am a horse rider and a good tip that I can give you is to form a bond and build your trust with your horse. I got to a point where my horse and I had such a tight bond that I could ride her with no tack. It's amazing to be able to trust an animal with such grace and power. Good luck on your journey into becoming an equestrian. I can lromise you that it is a hobby you won't ever regret starting. Horses are the most amazing animals I know ( and dogs ). ❤💞🐴🏇

That's not really a bond- that's more just being experience-
I really like these new videos! Just a little tip, when you ride remember to keep your back and posture straight because the horse will be able to tell how you feel and if you seem confident then generally the horse will realise that you are experienced and will behave better Xx
Yeah my posture was shocking haha, I think it improved a little on my second lesson. My waving hands stopped on my second lesson. Haha.

The following may take a while, so read if you dare...
I first rode a pony when I was around 6 thanks to one of my moms old friends. The pony was a resident of the stable she was housing her horse in and that's about all I remember other than how great it was. I rode another bigger pony later at a small fair in town.
At around Gr4 u new friend of mine from a grade bellow me paid for riding lessons at her stable as a X-mas present. I used those lessons once a week for about a month and my mom continued paying for them from then on. After about half a year I slowly started going less and less until suddenly I found I had stopped.
Being in a small un-horsey town there was only on riding school anywhere near us. Because of this they were able to raise the prices as much as they needed without loosing any business. My family however simple could not continue to pay for them if we wanted to eat and not drown in debt so I had to stop riding : ' (
We moved last December to a small town next to that one but I still have not been able to ride for about 5 years now and I miss my tall, stubborn, 4-legged-friends so much but life must go on.
I you are reading this thanks for putting up with my sob-story. Don't forget to enjoy the happiness and sense of freedom that horses provide :)
Also the trot you did is called the sitting trot. Once you start rising with the horse it hurts a lot less ;) My stubborn teacher took about two months before she allowed me to trot and she never allowed me to canter even though I already knew how because of fun riding with my friend...

Love this! It looks like you're really enjoying it! I'm the same as your friend, I started riding since I was about 7 and I got my first pony at 12 years of age and I've had several since. I'm 22 now and I've owned 3 different horses. Fun thing to learn with horse riding is that the more you progress, the more you actually realise you don't know and that you're making more mistakes 😂 especially with really small details and you've to be really accurate! Like if you're asking your horse to canter or leg yield (walk sideways like a crab), you have to put your leg back for both but in like slightly different places on the horses side 😂Or turning your wrist towards or away from the horses neck sends different messages to the horse aswell through the reins!
Honestly keep it up! Its a sport you'll never get bored off because there's so many different things you can do with them like jumping, eventing or dressage etc.

A few tips to do next time:
Heels down and toes up
Arms forward, body upright and shoulders back
When you turn don’t pull the reign , open it
Be confident in you horse don’t be afraid
In trot TRY and stand up in your stirrups and sit down to go up, down, up, down
Overall really good first proper lesson!! Good luck in the equestrian community, I my self is in it and WELL DONE! ♥️👍

@@equine_courtz0773 In my experiences, ponies are more hot, and sassy. Alot of bigger horses tend to be "gentle giants", (other than thouroughbreds).
The first horse I rode was a black and white cob named tulip 💛

I'd say shorten your reins a bit and keep your heels down.
Yes! I shortened them on my second lesson. They were all over the place on my first lesson!
That's what I was going to say it will help your balance
Heels not to far down. Try to think about standing on the ground. Your feet flat on the ground. That’s the “down heels” that give you the most balance without tightening your muscles in your leg the wrong way

I would recommend Kingsmead Horse Riding School Warlingham as I go there and I love it. My top tip is to make sure that the pad of your foot is on the stirrup and not your toes or heel as it will make your feet more likely to fall out of the stirrups.
I've been riding for like five years. I was cringing while looking at your leg position, and the reigns we're so long. But it was probably better than my first time riding
SkyGirl359 Haha - I’m sure I’ll also cringe when I watch it back when I’ve had more lessons. The reigns were way too long, I changed that in my second lesson!
@Mia Bond Hey, I said that she probably did way better that I did my first time having a riding lesson. My reins were probably three times as long and my leg position was probably way worse than hers. Anyway her equitation was problaby way better than mine was on my first lesson. Plus something was really wanky with her sadle
@Mia Bond Also, I've been riding horses for five years, I know what good and bad equitation looks like. If everyone got on a horse knowing exactly how to ride it, there would be no need for riding instructors. Everyone sucks their first lesson and she did pretty good for it being her first lesson
They keep the reigns long on new riders so they don’t tug on the horse too much that’s all

The horse is beautiful and I’m sure you know your mistakes- and I’m not good to tell you because I’m a Western Rider- but you’re doing good for starting out! Great job for starting!
I’ve been riding since July and I am just starting to jump and welcome to the equestrian life don’t rush I’ve been riding for almost a year and I just started to jump so don’t rush but I hope you had fun 🐎🙂
i know you posted this a year ago but how many lessons did it take you to start jumping? i want to start lessons to get into showjumping but im a beginner and will have my first lesson in a week or two. i'm very impatient though so im determined to learn accurately as quick as possible lol

Btw way good first lesson bc many beginners don’t usual trot there first lesson! If you like trotting I think your favorite thing will be cantering and galloping!🐴keep up the good work!😘

I had always been obsessed with guitars and had always wanted to learn. When I turned 25, I decided that enough was enough and decided to learn how to play. I started watching TH-cam videos and I bought my own guitar after playing my cousin’s old cousin-dubbed ‘crappy’ guitar.

Hey, I have been riding since I was 4, like u I didn’t come from an equestrian family but I really wanted to start! So you asked for some tips, so you must keep your heels down when you ride and don’t tap too hard with your legs otherwise the horse may go faster than u want them too, also never confuse your horse, for example when you want to turn your horse you must look in the direction u want him to go because if you look the opposite way they met get confused. I hope you have fun on your next lessons, well done on your first lessons, your trotting was great, keep up the good work💘🐴 soon I will be getting my own horse but first I have to have a back operation, after that my father said he will treat me and buy me a horse, it has been my dream to get one ever since I started riding. I think horses are one of them things that you fall instantly in love with and it’s very addictive to just feel so free and happy!😊 anyways i hope to see more amazing riding lessons! Bye xx
I've always wanted to try horse riding too, I had a horse friend when I was a young teen, but we only hugged and walked together but I've never tried ridding her :D She was called Marquise and was quite an old lady (about 23 years old at the time) when i was leaving her to go home, she would always follow me to the other side of the pasture, then pass her head through the barbwire fence and I would hug her head and we would stay like that for 10 min every-time (she would close her eyes like me and not move. I loved her so much, i was going to see her almost everyday)^^ But yeah, I've never tried horse ridding and I would love to! I really enjoyed seeing you do that! vlog again whenever you feel like it :)
This is awesome! I'm happy you really like horseback riding! It's such an enjoyable sport so I hope you keep taking lessons. I started around 2 years ago, (first more of dressage type lessons, then quickly switching to jumping which I liked a lot more lol) although I had wanted to start ever since I was little, but it's so much fun and there is ALWAYS more to learn. I'm am sooo happy though, that a youtuber who adores Harry Potter, also loves horses, I COULD NOT RELATE MORE 😂 anyways, loved the video. :)

It's always nice to see new people getting into the equestrian community! I've been riding for 11 years, my horse is a cob called jack and I've owned him for 2 and a half years now. You actually don't look that bad for your first 2 times riding! Of course everything will come in time, what's fun about working with horses is that you're always learning. Every ride, every groundwork session and obviously every horse only teaches you more. It's an extremely rewarding hobby/lifestyle to get into. All I can say tip-wise is just to go with the horse, a lot of people tend to stiffen up and want to move on their own but its sooo much easier if you try to follow the horses centre of balance rather than your own. Everything in the equestrian world is easier said than done so don't worry if you don't get something on the first few tries, it all takes practice😊best of luck to you!
One tip: the equestrian community is a a bit jaded and can be very mean because there are so many opinions going around. My tip to you is to focus on the horses rather than the people and try to find which sport you enjoy (dressage, jumping, western, natural horsemanship etc.). When you find your sport it's easier to find people with similar opinions :) And have fun with it!

I’ve only been riding for almost 2 months but I’ve been obsessed my whole life! I’ve improved so quickly (especially in comparison to my videos where I just recorded me starting out) but now I’m cantering jumps more often. A tip that helped me a lot as a novice rider is just to relax because whenever I tense up I squeeze my knees (which is big no no) and I lose my rhythm of rising trot and I feel like almost falling off whenever I canter and as if she’s taking off but whenever I’m relaxed my pony is relaxed, I follow her rhythm more smoothly at a consistent pace, I’m able to keep up with her canter, I’m able to balance better whenever I jump (a better two point) . So relaxing has been a huge key for improvement for me! Also keeping your heels down helps A LOT for balancing! You’re doing so good! Welcome to the equestrian world!(trust me you’ll love it I already met my barn family who speaks the same language as me*horses*)

Welcome to the horsey world! I still remember my first lesson over 10 years later, wish I had some footage to look back on. Don’t worry about things you might not be getting right yet, it all comes with time and practice, it’s so great to see someone learning properly and responsibly, I see so many people who don’t take the time to learn the basics and it usually doesn’t end well. As for advice I would say just keep enjoying it, push through any fears you might have as you progress and don’t worry how it looks to others, if you stayed on the horse then it was a success and if you didn’t laugh about it and try again. I’ve learned that for both horse and rider, trying is better than getting it right, if you try, your horse will try, it might not be perfect but that’s ok you can always do it again another day. Have fun!!!
You're realy good for a beginer who only had 2 lessons☺try shortening your stirrups because I thing they are too long (tip: you're stirryps should be the lenght of ypur hand when you put it under the flap where you adjust stirrups) and try pushing your heels down because i saw in you're first lesson that you're legs were bent and you were squezing nobby on his stomach, you should straighten your legs and squeze him right behind the girth,and also you're stirrups should be on the widest part of youre foot(right behing youre toes). Next try not pulling so hard on the reins and put your hands more forward(right before the saddle) so the horse doesn't pick up some wrong signs (if you're pulling the reins because you feel unstable try squezing your knees to the saddle, that's a tip my trainer gave to me and I stopped pulling on the reins). And the last thing try putting your but more forward☺ that's all and don't take anything of this as a hate these are just some tips to improve your riding. Love you soo much❤❤❤

I rode for 4 years and learnt so much. My biggest achievement was jumping 3ft. I miss riding and hope to go back to it some day. The best tips I ever got were: 1) when holding the reins imagine you are holding two cups of tea that you don't want to spill - this enables you to keep your hands in the right position. 2) relax as much as possible - try not to tense up, imagine you are like a wet piece of spagetti which is all floppy. 3) "I can see those white knuckles through your gloves" my instructor could tell when I was holding the reins too tight and it was pulling on the horses mouth - so grip the reins as if you are holding a handle of a mug, not gripping on to it for dear life and not holding it so it falls out of your hand, just holding it at the right amount. 4) The best thing for posture is to remember "heels down" - Imagine you have a weight on a string attached to your heel which pulls it down gently - by doing this it will cause you to sit deeper in the saddle and straighten your back (this comes with time and practise). My lovely boy had to have emergency surgery the other day, he's coming home today and videos like this have kept me calm the last few days waiting to see how he is. Honestly, I’m riding horses since 3 years now and I still need sooo much to learn. It doesn’t come at once, it’s really something that you learn due time and which you can’t rush. Good luck on your adventure!
I haven’t been riding for long, I started in April 2018, I have had many different instructors but my favourite is the strictest, the moment I do something wrong she tells me and I can learn much easier with her. The horse I usually ride is called Chevy, she is a chestnut Arabian but she is an old girl. Horses are beautiful and sweet, I hope you continue to love riding as much as most equestrians do.
Horse riding is amazing and it's awesome to see how much you love it already! Biggest tip I can give is: don't forget you're working together with a living creature. Horses are incredibly smart animals. Don't try to control them or play their boss, it won't work on the long term. Instead try to lead and guid them. You're the leader of the small herd that is you and the horse. And well, of course, leaders lead and don't control. There's a subtle difference. (Of course, that doesn't mean you can't be strict when a horse is being annoying, but there's usually a reason a horse will do a certain thing) (And a completely unrelated but fun thing I like to do when I get my horse, is softly blow into his nose. When horses meet each other, they will smell each other as a greeting so to say. Softly blowing in the nose simulates that and it's like saying hi)

Advise giving on horse riding without seeing it reel life is difficult. There is so much and there are so many ways. For now, for someone that is beginning, just try to get the feeling. Try to feel all the little things the horse does underneath you. And if you really want to learn and do it it takes time and miles/km’s. A good instructor and a horse that knows and has done it all helps a lot. And when you have a lesson don’t be scared about asking a lot if you think what you do is wrong but the instructor is not saying a thing. Tell you’re instructor what you feel and try to feel if it’s different if you do something else.
And above all: enjoy!!!

Welcome to the equestrian community!!!! I'm so exited for you. Horses have been part of my life for five years and I can't imagine my life without them. I hope you will keep riding for a long time. After I left my favorite horse and the stable I had been riding at for my whole life I really wanted to give up but I'm so glad I kept going, and I hope you do to. I have now found a great stable and have been riding a great little pony named Ernie. He makes me laugh (he is the biggest goof ball) and has been teaching me so much. I hope you keep making videos about your horse riding experiences. This one was a lot of fun to watch. You'll see how fast you progress, and hopefully you won't look back at those videos and think of what you did wrong, but think about how far you have come. I am trying to get out of the former mind set, witch has been hard, but I am now starting to see that without those mistakes i wouldn't have learned anything. When I first started riding my biggest trouble was ensuring my heels were down, and I wasn't hugging the horse with my thighs. I noticed in the videos that this you tend to have your toes down rather than your heels, this is something that you will work as you progress but what helped me was I learnt that if you put your weight in your heels, it helps extend your leg creating better equitation! Remember to always look where you are going and try to have soft hands, as the horse has a big piece of metal in his mouth, so by just pulling you're going to hurt his mouth, so try to open and close your fingers focusing on your ring fingers and pinky fingers... these are just some tips and tricks that I wish I knew when I first started riding. However, in your second lesson, your posture seemed great! Keep up the good work!

It's so great to see how excited you are! 😂 I think the most important thing is to not get to devastated if something goes wrong or doesn't work out right away. Every horse is different and some can be quite stubborn but you just have to keep practicing and if you do fall off (and I'm sure it happens to everyone at some point haha) it's very important to get back on as soon as possible to avoid getting scared.

i’m a professional dressage groom and rider! i love seeing people loving the sport i adore. i’m lucky enough to work with top competition horses, that even represent team GB. something i would recommend is a body protector. if you fall, which WILL happen, it will help you a lot and lessen your risk of being injured. look into ones, make sure they’re the correct standards, and double check that your helmet is too (and both correctly fitted) this means they’re all the correct standards and will be most effective.
you WILL fall off, you WILL have bad lessons and you WILL have a time where you feel like you don’t want to continue. but just keep going, it’ll take you at least a year to master all three (walk, trot, canter) but there’s no harm in taking things slow.
another thing, don’t glue your hands to your sides. we use a thing called, soft hands but a steady guide. so your hands should be soft, you shouldn’t be yanking on the horses mouth and your arms should be in a nice position (you can find loads of articles and videos on this!)
controlling the horses (steering) you don’t need to just use your hands, realistically, when i’m casually riding on a long rein and not really holding the reins (maybe with one hand) you should be able to move the horse with your seat bone/thighs. you have two seat bones, left and right, these can really help you. putting more weight on your left seat bone will help you move the horse, and vice versa. you’ll also learn more about the concept of ‘putting your leg on’ and such, later.
also, keep your heels down! these are like your seatbelts, heels down head high! one thing i tell my clients, is that if you look at the ground- you’ll most probably end up there. so keep your head up, sit tall and enjoy. most likely, where your horses head is pointing, the horse will go, so bare that in mind.
also, at no point should your saddle be slipping. if you feel like you’re tilting, ask your instructor to check your horses Girth. this is the bit that goes under your horses belly, to hold the saddle in place- if it’s loose, the saddle will slip about. tightening it can help keep it still! invest in some riding gloves, they can help you grip the reins and stop you from getting sores on your hands, which do happen.

I have a few tips for you that will probably help you more in the future. When you learn to post grip more with your calf rather than your thighs. Make sure that you look where you want to go as well as where you are going. If you ever get into show jumping be sure to always have a plan of where you are going next, how/ when to tell your horse, and press into your heels as you release over the jumps. When you canter be sure to keep your lower leg underneath you and don’t let it slide all around.

Edit- some friendly tips I would say are... keep your heels *down* That’s so important cause really, that’s what helps your balance a lot! Also my trainer tells me to sit like a princess! 😂 shoulders back, Hands by the mane, sit tall. She even compares it to a car lol cause you have to be looking ahead or you could “crash” So, don’t look at your horse! Only what’s ahead. Also try to lean into your bum to feel the horses movement(even when walking) but I can’t wait for more lesson vlogs!

Sometimes I’m on my mare and want to scream my head off, and occasionally cry after a difficult lesson, but I would never change her or the sport for the world, there is nothing that I would compare it to xx

I'm glad you were taught properly because most places tell you to pull on the reins(you shouldn't!) they told you how to stop your body movement. Im glad you enjoyed it and weren't accidentally mean to the horse!
You actually didn’t do too bad!! I’ve seen loads of new riders that yank on the reins and kick too much but you did pretty good for your first lesson! I have two horses currently and have been riding since I was about 5 (I’m 15 now so about 10 years) and I’m so happy that you’ve got to experience horses cause they truly are amazing animals! Who knows, maybe one day you’ll have your own horse. Having your own horse truly is a different kind of bond that I hope you get to experience!
I have always loved horses and I recently started lessons. I have learned so much already. It’s crazy how much work it is. I’ve always thought u just get on the horse and move your hands a little. Riders don’t get enough credit for the sport.
Horse riding is always learning. When you get one thing perfect there are always more.
I work at a stables leading the new riders on their first lessons and I always tell them to imagine they are holding 2 cups of tea in their hands. This way they remember to keep their hands really still and only use them for steering/ stopping

I´m with horses for 20 years. I started with vaulting when I was four and did it for 17 years, from that I got a really good balance. Horses have a hard time when they want to try buck me off, most times they stop bevor they got me off, good for me. I can´t really remember when I started riding, something around seven or eight, I´m know 24, I do it for probably 16 or 17 years and I´m still learning, haven´t really had lessons for three years. I´m happy that I found a really nice and in some ways super easy horse, even when he is no beginners horse, that I´m allowed to ride alomst as often as I like and don´t have to pay, so lucky with that. He is such a sweety, he knows that I´m his human, not the other way round, every time I´m coming there is coming yummy food and some fun activitys, we love it going out in the fields or woods. No one can get me ever away from horses, I get super unhappy when I can´t go there and ride or even care for them.
Have been riding now for 18 years (eep!) and have owned my pony for the past 6 years. I think the most important thing is to relax and have fun! Horses pick up on your energy, but as a rider you will always make mistakes... I’m still learning things now after years and years in the hobby and industry!! Just enjoy every minute of it!! Xx
All you have to do is keep going because sometimes it is really hard but you always have to get back into the saddle💕

A good way to try and get your horse to turn is if you want to go left squeeze with your right leg as if your pushing him over to the left and the same if you want to go Right, it will be a clear indication to him. OMG I love horse riding. So cool you are starting with it! I have been riding for about ten years I think, hope you continue to share your horse journey! My tip is just finding a school with a good atmosphere. A school can look as fancy as you like but don't let that distract you from tasting the atmosphere that is there. I have ridden in a lot of different places and it makes a massive difference!
I used to ride for years, and even though I can only do it occasionally now, I still love it and love horses. Watching the intro now and excited for the video.🐴 My biggest tips for riding in general are elbows in, heels down and don’t grip with your knees, this will help you maintain a deep seat. Also horses can feel even slight movements of your head, so look where you want to go in advance and it guides your horse in the right direction. It’s an amazing pastime, I hope you keep at it. ❤️ I’d love more videos like this!

One tip that I would give is to completely relax your hips. You're basically thrusting on the horse in order to make it the most comfortable for you and your horse. This will come in real handy once you start cantering which can seem really bouncy when you first begin, but if you sit well and move your hips it can be an extremely smooth experience!! I can't wait to see more of your progress!!!

Hi I'm Erin in 12 and Ive been riding for about 5 years here are some tips and tricks
1. It is easier to do a rising trot you do this by rising up and down
2. To dismount don't think about it just take your feet out of the stirrups and swing your leg over the horses back
3. This is a piece of advice I was given from my cousin : if you fall off once get back up twice if you don't get back on once you fall off a lot of people are then scared of riding and won't do it again
4. You can do ANYTHING if you trust your horse
5. Take time to bond with your horse by grooming them or just simply petting them
6. Give them lots of praise when they do the right thing they deserve it because they work very hard to please you

Growing up my grandpa and uncle had horses a black one bestie and the red one name chestnut so I never was scared of horses. We use to ride horses a lot and even went to horse shows and horse rides.

I started horseriding when I was 13 and in my opinion I always Thought that was pretty late to start horseridning. Now that I'm 14 I've learned so much and so thankful for how much I really have learned. After about a year after I started I now can gallop and troot by my self without a instructor leading me. I have jumped the highest about 50 cm and I'm so proud of myself going through such a amazing journey.
