I think Bruce Blitz visited my elementary school when I was little. Hah, I still have this little book he was handing out, remember a lot of it clearly like making cartoons out of numbers, and am an aspiring artist today. :)
Bruce Blitz How much money would someone need to make a hour and a half long film by cel animation? It is a great dream for this art to continue. Please add any books that could teach to draw or the ins and outs of cel animation. Thank you.
I have bought a retroprojector sheet along with a special ball point to outline my drawings , I can see you have to paint the character ,I thought there were felt pens to do the job
@Th3Sabator45 Okay. But I got one question. I'm kind of into animation, and I was wondering which kind of places to look for them and how much they might cost.
How come you can't just use tracing paper as your "cel"? You can see the background when you place the tracing paper over the background. Is there a certain reason. And I have no clue how much cels cost or even where to find one. I would really like to know.
When you are going to turn the cels into animation, it goes through photography of each frame with any layers of cels put together and the background under it all. Tracing paper or any regular paper is too opaque for this, especially since the photography doesn't happen on a light table. Transparent cels are the only way. Now, I'm no expert and I haven't actually gotten these yet--but I found these write-on transparencies to be a way cheaper solution than buying actual animation acetate sheets:
So cool to see your love for animation. I hope to see your cartoons back on TV where they belong.
First he teaches me how I draw in his amazing drawing kit. Now he teaches me the secret I've wanted to know for years.

Bruce Blitz and Mark Kistler were like cartoonist gods to me as a kid. Great to see they're still around!
cant believe Akira or Ghost in the Shell was made this way...
These lessons are valuable in any age.
@tunkunrunk I don't know of any opaque enough markers to do the job. Look around you may find some though!

@DarkPictures1 you can't really see though the tracing paper unlike a cel
Too bad it's hard to find any body selling blank animation cels online or anywhere these days....

Does india ink work as well to do the outline?
It does as long as you keep it nice and neat
