    I've had issues with the bottle draining too quickly, raining down the outside of the pole, especially if I accidentally let the moss dry too far, and into the pot. I'd rather water/feed my plants separately. So I came up with an excellent idea. I use the Terra cotta watering spikes! I embed it in the top of my poles and when I invert the bottle, it slowly wicks only as the moss needs it, as it's drying out! So it never dries out, stays constantly evenly moist! Works splendidly!! I can fill a bigger bottle, even with short poles and they stay perfectly evenly damp, without major wet areas that are waiting to distribute the moisture through the moss. Love it!! As soon as the bottles are empty, several days later, I refill them and repeat. Happy Growing! 💚

    Growing my plants in soil, I learned that I have to build in a barrier between mosspole and soil, otherwise the soil is always very wet, which would cause root rot. After trying out various things, I found out that a silicone baking mold put into the bottom of the mosspole (above soil level) is ideal. It witholds the excess moisture from the moss pole. The soil stays dry, while I keep the mosspoles always moist. 😃💚

    Hello from the US! I just found your channel. You are phenomenal and your content is so very educational! I'd very much like to try making moss poles and see if I can train some of my pothos to grow larger leaves. In Mexico once, I saw pothos in their natural environment climbing up trees. The leaves were massive and some were even finistrated!! Off to watch all of your videos!! Also, for those who live in the US, I have heard great things about Liqui-Dirt and I am planning to use that in my moss poles. Please take this with a grain of salt as I am a complete moss pole noob but I thought it'd be helpful to offer an alternative. Happy housplanting!!

    Hi! Great watering tips. I use a plastic coke bottle. I used my soldering iron and burned holes in the lid so it doesn’t guzzle out on me when I flip it. Also, since I don’t have a pump sprayer, I found that I can spray the pole with it as well. Just point and squeeze. 😊

Currently on coir poles but I'm going to switch to the home made moss poles like what you use so then keeping on putting them in bigger pots won't be nessecery as theyv develop roots all throughout the moss pole also.

    Interesting, I did a little experiment that might interest other leca fans. I've got a large jar full of leca, and it's just semi hydro in there. The pole is moss all the way down and dips an inch or 2 into the jar. To avoid having it soaking I keep the water level well below the pole. It's staying moist, just one of the many ways to water.

    I have a question regarding how do you keep the poles standing up straight when they are so large. I would think the pot would tip over with all the top weight. I am wanting to start a few of my plants with a moss pole while they are small but I'm concerned about what happens as they get big. I'll re-watch your moss pole videos. But this question is always on my mind.

    Lovely video!!! So informative and you radiate all the good vibes ! I’m very interested in buying the solution you showed. Sadly, I’m in the USA and cannot find it here. Where could I find it that can ship to the USA or what’s the next best thing you would recommend ? Thank you so much in advance !

    could superthrive work as your “nutrient solution”? or are you referring to something more like a complete macronutrient fertilizer?

    • @TheLecaQueen

      Definitely a complete nutrient. Optimised and pH buffered.

    Hey! If you’re just starting to train a plant on a moss pole and no roots have grown into the moss yet, should you still only water the pole or should you water both the pole AND soil? Thanks :)

    • @TheLecaQueen

      Yes and yes. The moss needs to be moist for the aerial roots to grow into.

      Good hydroponics shops would have it assuming you are in Australia

    • @BusinessButlers
      @BusinessButlers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get this also in the United Kingdom via Amazon - just search for the company, Growth Technology. The sub-brand names DO seem to vary from country to country but the UK Amazon lists all sorts of different formulations - more than you will ever need lol ! I checked the USA version of Amazon and thy only list one Growth Technology product but other brands will be available for sure since hydroponics and growing houseplants in leca is big over there.

    Question: I just started Leca & just put up my 1st 3 plants on short moss poles. I am lazy...i purchased moss poles vs making my own. I also purchased a sprayer. It does not appear that the store bought poles would do well with the upside down watering thru the middle hole. any suggestions on how to make my store bought moss poles work??? thank you.

    Where are you finding the "cage" you have around the moss pole?

    • @BusinessButlers
      @BusinessButlers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It us just the lightweight green coated galvanised metal mesh fencing rolls. I always seem to have more than one roll hanging about in my shed since I buy a roll every time they are on offer in Aldi or another supermarket. I use this mesh for keeping the local cats out of garden, the birds from scavenging my strawberries in the summer and now I intend to use it for this great way to make moss poles.
