** LYRICS **
[HILDEGARD] Whither have the worthy gone, oh, where is fair Gawain?
Where is gallant Galahad to take the bridle rein?
[WHITNEY] Is there not a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and I dream of what I need
[H] I need a hero
I shall hold out for a hero 'til the end of the night
I pray he be hale,
Wingèd of heel
And newly return’d from the fight
[W] I need a hero
I shall hold out for a hero 'til the morning light
He must be assur’d
E’er true to his word
With a wit that will thrill and excite
Thrill and excite
Erelong at the witching hour within my reverie
Somewhere just beyond the veil someone reacheth out for me
[H] Racing on a courser and clad in gleaming mail
I shall answer none but he who bringeth me the grail
[W] Aaah, I need a hero
I shall hold out for a hero 'til the end of the night
Could I but afford
My very own sword
I would not require his might
[H] I need a hero
I shall hold out for a hero 'til the morning light
By god was he blessed
E’er true to his quest
A man of whom Chaucer will write
[W] Up where the dragons glide near heaven above
Out on a storm-tossed odyssey
Verily doth a saintly champion ride toward me
[H] Through the wind, and the chill, and the rain
The plague, and the flood
I can feel his approach like a fire in my blood
[BOTH] I need a hero
I shall hold out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
I pray he be hale,
Wingèd of heel
And newly return’d from the fight
I need a hero
I shall hold out for a hero ‘til the morning light
A knight, not a pawn
A true paragon
With armor and eyes shining bright
I need a hero

How is it possible you have improved exponentially upon perfection?
Just when I thought Bardcore was dying, what with people mostly being back to work etc etc, the patron saint of the genre brings it once again to entirely new heights! Praise and blessings, my lady(s), praise and blessings eternal.
My issue with bardcore is most of it is surface level... "Let's just take a pop song and redo it with instruments"
It doesn't sound like medieval music, it just sounds like a pop song done with weird instruments like "hey guys I redid the amogus theme with a kazoo".
Music from this era was supposed to last and tell a story... But bardcore for the most part might as well be redoing songs like WAP or some shit ruining the feel
Much of the genre is quite awful to listen to ngl...

Also a very good cultural translation of the superman line.
@@aquila4460 Especially when you take into account the fact that traditionally, Gawain draws strength from the Sun.
She's gonna wait a while, answering to none. Actually finding the Grail ends in two ways, Arthurian-legend-wise:
- getting fireballed into many weeks of recovery from your crippling wounds, should you prove unworthy
- getting ascended straight into Heaven, body and Grail and all, otherwise
So, bottom line... for this to happen to you, you have to be in Heaven already, which in her case has "dead" as a prerequisite! Still, good line

I love the last bit, "A Knight, not a pawn; a true paragon with with armour and eyes shining bright - I need a hero!" And then the ladies were like, "Screw it. Let's be heroines ourselves and ride on the back of a dragon armed with a shield and sword!"
I think this song would suit Princess Fiona in Shrek - and she outdoes all 3 of Charlie's Angels!
I feel bad for the knight because he looks like he returned from battle victorious only for the two maidens to take his sword and shield and stands there looking on.
And for that matter, I'd like to think that the dragon that the knight was fighting was actually the damsel's pet, trying to protect her from an intruder. And then add the damsel rushing the knight, armed with a mace to protect her dragon.
@@Sam-lb8xs In some interpretations that I have seen (and I am not sure whether this is correct or not) the dragon in medieval frescas (especially the one slain by saints) symbolyses female sexuality and sex drive, and how it should be slain for the betterment of the godly christian world, lol. So, the singers flying away on the dragon could symbolise them taking control over their own sexuality, if you chose to believe the above interpretation.

My lords, my ladies, and everybody else here not sitting on a cushion! Today... today, you find yourselves equals. For you are all equally blessed. For I have the pride, the privilege, nay, the pleasure of introducing to you to a knight, sired by knights. A knight who can trace his lineage back beyond Charlemagne. I first met him atop a mountain near Jerusalem, praying to God, asking his forgiveness for the Saracen blood spilt by his sword. Next, he amazed me still further in Italy when he saved a fatherless beauty from the would-be ravishing of her dreadful Turkish uncle. In Greece he spent a year in silence just to better understand the sound of a whisper. And so without further gilding the lily and with no more ado, I give to you, the seeker of serenity, the protector of Italian virginity, the enforcer of our Lord God, the one, the only, Sir Ulllrrrich von Lichtenstein!

I dunno, sounds toxic to me, acting like you don't ever need anybody's help is toxic in general, and then denying the benefits of gender out of that immaturity is even worse. I've loved Holding Out For A Hero ever since Shrek 2, and have several covers of it. I quite enjoyed your medieval bardic take on it. Especially that you changed the lyrics to fit the style and they work really well.
I was thinking about Shrek too! That was such an epic part.
I love the little animated ladies helping each other climb the mountain. This is exquisite.
You've outdone yourself once again Hildegard! Your music is whatever the opposite of depression is :D
These voices are helping this day start right!!! Thank you for your hard work! Lady Whitney and Lady Hildy, you two are the best!!!
Thank you! Have a blessed day!
😊
I know its been six months, I still love your music a lot and wish you made more song but! I started college today an in one of the book chapters of assigned reading at the bottom I saw this quote
"DARE TO DECLARE WHO YOU
ARE. IT IS NOT FAR FROM THE
SHORES OF SILENCE TO THE
BOUNDARIES OF SPEECH.
THE PATH IS NOT LONG, BUT
THE WAY IS DEEP. YOU MUST
NOT ONLY WALK THERE,
YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO LEAP.
Hildegard Von Bingen"
I DIDN'T KNOW SHE WAS A REAL PERSON! Needless to say I was very pleased by this.
I love that, even when the lyrics seem to be about finding a man, these 2 ladies seem quite fine going through several hardships and in the end have their own dragon steed :D
Turns out the real heros were the friends they made along the way
@@AlwaysBolttheBird Specifically, the friends they made into armed, dragon-riding valkyries
Gotta have that feminist context!
Them leaping off the cliff had Thelma and Louise-vibes for me. Not sure if that was the intended reference, but cool nonetheless!
0:45 I'M DYING the way they just ran like "ok sis let's find you a hewoo "
"Could I but afford my very own sword, I would not require his might." Followed by them robbing a knight and escaping into the distance aboard a dragon is 😘👌🏻
The animation here is top notch
And here I thought the Shrek 2 version was the be-all, end-all cover of this song... Wow. You all crushed it!
I fear'd the pox had thee in its foul grasp. Pleased to find thee well and weaving such heavenly melodies!
Once heard this way, cannot be unheard. And the animation is frighteningly good!!
This was not a cover - this was a UPGRADE!!
Miss von Blingin’, is there any chance you could perform Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” in your signature Bardcore style? I’d love to be able to Rick Roll my D&D party at some point!
I would like to second this
Alas, there was no TH-cam when I played D&D, else I would have encountered such shenanigans many years ago.
Please and thank you
