I really enjoyed this calm and informative video. It almost felt like a walk through the place on a sunny day. Although I have heard of the jew communites in Kerala and also in Chennai, this is the first time I'm seeing any video about the place- so got an idea of how a synagogue looks etc. I love unique tiles and if I ever visited I'd enjoy observing the glass lamps, tiles etc. Thanks!

Omg !! While studying I studied with 4-5 classmates who were Jewish. And they blended so well with all of us that we hardly knew they were Jewish. Extremely down to earth and beautiful by soul ♥️ never felt like they were different. Especially now with Israel and Palestine war , I got to know that they were Jewish ❤. When I was young the same place used to be full of Jewish people most old though. It was distinctly culturally different and beautiful place. All houses i remember were interconnected and the families welcomed me and my aunt to show the place. Visited the Jewish quarter few years back only to see shops.. nice to know Madam Sarah’s home and heritage of Jewish are taken care off by her foster son a Muslim.. This is India
Beautiful video. I think it captures the essence of the place. Lovely, how he has still preserved the shop and her belongings and continues to work, really shows the respect and passion held. The different cultures residing beside each other in the town just makes it more interesting(made me more curious about what the history must be like). Keep up the history bits.👏🏻👏🏻

I knew Sarah. I went o Kochi in 2015. Went to Jew town. I was visiting with friends over some medical conference. I even clicked couple of pix with her. She was a warm person.
I had the opportunity to haggle with Sarah for one of her pieces when I visited Jew Town in the early 2000's. She was a shrewd and skilled business woman.
Just a friendly note - he called her Sarah Aunty. So multiple times he said “aunty making” for which the subtitles displayed here are “hand making”. I don’t think he intended to use the word “hand”. Of course, you may already be aware of this and maybe you felt this was a better way to express what he said.

Its important to understand that Kochi is not like Jerusalem as Kochi does not have enforced apartheid laws. People of different religions coexist in Kochi instead of being segragated into quarters like in Jerusalem by the israeli government.
