If vantaged point is allowed another simple solution is the original letter H (that had a leftover piece), then simply place it on the two smallest pieces making the horizontal bar of the H. Viewed from directly above, you have a perfect letter H!
Exactly what I was thinking!
Same here
Yup
Hear me out. Make the first example using six pieces, but use the last piece to push it together. You used all 7 pieces to make the H
The solution at the beginning is complete if you just put the extra piece on top of the already made letter H so that it doesn't protrude when looking directly from above.
Like, if the 'correct' solution requires you to look at the puzzle from a certain angle, then there's nothing to stop you from looking at it from directly above and pretending the extra piece doesn't exist.
except your H doesn't come together to form one linear plane that is the shape of the letter H. The slanted cut, on the other hand, use all 7 pieces to form H on one uniform plane.
@@swordzanderson5352 I'm pretty sure the rule only tells you to form a letter 'H'. It never said it has to be pretty.
@@callmeandoru2627 It says to use ALL 7 pieces to form the letter H. If you just put the last piece on top and look from the top, it's just the 6 pieces that form the H, with the 7th piece hidden in plain sight. You didn't form an H with all 7 pieces

The thing that i hate about those type of puzzles is that they are correct only from a certain perspective. But if you consider correct solutions wich are correct only from a very specific perspective, you could just take the pieces, put them like you did in the beginning and then put the last piece on top of any other piece, if you look at the letter directly from above it's actually an H.
It's the exact same thing as solving a Rubik's cube by replacing the stickers. It isnt some genius foresight, it's arbitrary as hell & feels like it should be against the rules. If someone brought out this puzzle, then solved it like THIS, I would not be satisfied. I would feel like they cheated to TECHNICALLY make an H.
@@jojoversus1100 I don't understand if you are talking about the solution i was giving in my comment or the real solution. I'm gonna assume you are talking about my comment. Making another example, this puzzle's original solution make it seem like in order to solve a rubik's cube you could just solve 1 face and then say: "I solved the cube because by looking at it from the right perspective you can't tell if it's solved or not, so you can assume it's solved".

The slanted cuts of the pieces give you a clue of how to solve it. Look at which sides of each piece match the sides of other pieces.
For example, take two pieces
Piece 1. Piece 2
B B
|\ A |_\ C
A |_| C D
D
Side c of piece 1 matches side a of piece 2, which hints that they may be next to each other in the solution.
Then if you notice that the slanted sides are at the same angle, it hints that they all end up facing the same direction in the finished solution.
if the rules stated 'the y axis DOES matter', you would have a point, but that was a rule you made up based on presumption, which is the foundation of this puzzle

Thinking outside the box is a problem-solving skill. This isn't problem-solving, this is cheating. Why not just throw the 7th piece in the trash? Solves the problem just as well.
