Hi Abi, I have been trying to research on how to fix my serger and haven't had luck finding a solution. I thought I would reach out to you. My serger blade arm is too high and away from the lower blade. It bangs against the case that is housing it. I found this video that is similar to my serger issue. Please HELP thank you in advance. th-cam.com/users/shortspMf6D5OUvuw
I am so glad about this Video, I am getting this Model of Singer Overlocker tonight, I bought it from FB Marketplace. I read a review about this particular Machine and that it is bad and won't last longer than maybe a year. Your Video reassured me that it is a good Machine, and now I am really happy and excited for when my husband picks it up.
Hope you enjoy it! It’s on the same level as brother machines without the price tag. There is a stigma around the brand name but off all machines I would always say yes to a singer in preference over other brands.
Kate is more than just happy - I'm ecstatic and SO grateful! THANK YOU! Hilarious to see my dodgy joggers on screen. 😂 Like you, did not want to consign to landfill as I believe any machine is repairable, you just need knowledge and the parts. (And clearly the other 2 technicians who worked on it didn't have the knowledge.). I got it second-hand obviously faulty, but now it's fixed feel empowered through your videos to tackle any future problems. You STAR! ⭐⭐⭐
This video and posts related to this gave me the confidence to attempt to fix my own machine too. Thanks Abi for all your knowledge and encouraging us to get to know our machines :) I’m not at al technical / mechanical but much more confident in opening my machine now :)
i had 5 mostly vintage machines ( one elna overlocker) picked up by a "Mechanic" with a 4 year degree in sewing machine mechanics ( yes he let me know this when i told him i work on my own machines--also said he was doing me a favour) brought them back either not fixed with excuses or partly fixed with excuses or didnt say anything at all. he didnt repair or replace or service or clean. so i went out and bought some tools i didnt have and now i only fix my own machines, i have been sewing for over 55 years so i was taught in my school how to clean and maintain our machines. we didnt have overlockers then . but by watching your channel you have been a really big help- i am now able to get most of my machines up and running timed, aligned, cleaned oiled working as well as replacing things like motors .thank you for taking the time to do these videos. maybe you can make a video about how to get the stitches top and bottom to sit on the fabric right--adjusting needle bar to center and height correctly and foot pressure bar alignment forward and/or back --keep up the good work
Wow! Well done Shelley. You are the perfect example of why I do this! Wow! 4 year degree, i didn’t know this qualification existed?! I know manufacturers each have one or two engineers.. they will head out to their handful of retailers for a day to ‘train’ them, but otherwise, I’m not convinced. The last sewing machine manufactured in the UK was at least 50 years ago.. but very well done 👍🏽thank you for the video suggestions ✂️🪡💫
Wow, so interesting. I have this Singer, and I thought mine got louder during the years. I have deep cleaning following your video, oiled, but did not got quieter. This explains it. Thanks
I really appreciate this video. After 4 months of my Brother 1034D being repaired and it came back unrepaired, I was beyond frustrated. I followed one of your other videos and unfortunately the original issue came back. This video has given me the drive to keep trying. I was ready to sell the machine as broken and move on. Thank you for your videos!
@@AbisDen it started out with a timing issue. I thought I had it fix and it kept breaking needles. I took it in to be repaired. They said every time they got it working, that by the second run of fabric it would be off again. I got it back after 2 months told it was fixed. I knew instantly it wasn't right. Took it back in and 2 months later returned home with it. When I picked it up they said it was running without issue. I didn't understand how when the tensions were at 7 - 4 1/2- 2 1/2 - 1/4. Unless the blade is set at a 7 most of the thread is hanging off. I moved the blade and was getting the tension figured out because the tension dials are really far off. 2 min into working on it and the timing went off again. One of the other reasons I took it in was because the seem looked like a ladder stitch instead of creating a seam. I have watched your timing video, so I plan to really look at it to see where the timing is off and then I will adjust the tension. I am hoping that will fix it. The repair shop refunded my money and said that I was never allowed to bring my machine back.
Abi I have not wrote on here before but it's time i did Just want to say thank you for helping us to get to know our machines better I just love watching you Thanks 🧡🧵
Thank you Abi for highlighting the importance of keeping things out of the landfill. Love your channel and am waiting for my overlocker to be deliverers. 👍🏻👍🏻

It is shocking that engineers said the machine was unrepairable! A good engineer should tell you if he/she is unfamiliar with a particular machine. Were they after selling a new machine I wonder. I am so glad you got it working again and that Kate is so thrilled. This video, though shocking, has been very interesting. We can all bear your advice in mind. Thankyou!

Hi abi i am trying to service my friends overlocker so it can be sold sadly my friend lost a very short(12weeks) but brave fight with cancer 😢 but for the life of me i cannot get the left needle thread tension at all im guessing there is a problem within the tension mechanism as everything else is working fine do you know where i can source new parts please its the singer in this video on the right or do you have any other suggestions as to what it may be many thanks for reading hopefully you will have time to reply 😊
Hey Donna, I'm so sorry to hear of your friend's passing. The thread tension on these machines is more than often getting the thread right into the tension discs. Make sure needles are up so the discs are fully open and then be careful to get the thread right in there rather than to the side of the discs, I have made this error many times on these machines. What parts do you need, I would tend to look on ebay
Hi Abi, did you ever do a video on how to dampen the noise on overlockers? I’ve searched but can’t find one. Your videos are amazing and very informative. Keep up the good work x
Thank you so much for your videos! I brought my singer serger to a repair man in a quilting shop and he wa able to make it work on cottons/woven fabrics but I use it for stretchy knit fabrics and it still isn't working properly. It runs ok with 3 threads right needle but not with four. My left needle thread keeps breaking. I've tried various tensios, replaced the needles, plate, loopers and blades but still cant get it quite right. Any idea what I might be missing? Thanks again!

Hi, I’ve just broken the upper looper needle and struggling to find any instructions on how to replace it? Any advice? My local repairer is a brother specialist so I don’t think he does singer overlockers
I put repair videos in the members only section. But just as a point - ALL overlockers are the same internally. Just some are made with cheaper metals and some with more plastic. So if your mechanic is a proper mechanic - he should know how to fix your machine regardless of brand and model xx
Great video, thanks Abi, nice that you were able to 'save' a machine. It's unfortunate that some 'repair' venues aren't getting it right, but ever was it thus. That's why we need you Abi to empower us! Take care.
Hi abi. A query if you may.. No one seems to have any idea what I'm talking about. I have the singer 14sh754 overlocker. Sewed night one a dream. Took same garment back to machine following evening.. Started fine... Half way through seam stopped making chains... Found needle bent. Changed and broke. Eventually realised a was bent too. Changed... Aaaand... Yep. Broke. After a million rethreads and 5 broken needles... And my looper and needles coming unthreaded.. As well as the intermittent chaining issues.. I've discovered that the a needle is hitting a black squarish piece of metal on an arm that passes between the back of the needle and the looper.... Is this a timing issue?? I can't find ANY info re this problem. Seriously upsetting as it was a birthday present.. And was working perfectly until I decided to reserge a seam as garment was a tad big.... :(
Many repair techs that are dealers often deem machines unfixable, in the hopes you'll by a new one, and leave your old one for parts or they'll fix and resale used. And some are just not experienced or competent enough to fix it.
Change them when you see the fabric is being mangled rather than cut. However on some machines the blades can slip down a little which gives the effect of blades becoming dull. In reality you shouldn’t need to change them for years and years (20 years on mine 🌟)
I just bought a new Singer 14SH754 and when it came in the box most of the treading was out of the machine so I have tried my best over and over to re thread it and it works a minute and then it just does nothing, the thread just comes out straight, no sewing at all. I've followed every TH-cam that I can find on threading and since it has never been used I'm sure that I must be doing something wrong. I have worked hours and hours trying to get this threaded correctly. I'm sure it must be the loopers but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I don't have a repair person or a shop that I can take this machine in to.
Hi wondering if you can give me any advice. I have a Lidl overlocker and I have come to overlock my customer cushions and yep the door is jammed aarrghhh, do you have any idea as to why it's not opening when I pull it to the right it moves but the knob (think it's call the stitch length is stopping it from opening) thank you in advance

the presser foot that cant be raised is a common issue - particularly after a fall, - a very easy fix, i doubt the bar is bent or damaged and I am sure I have demonstrated this fix in a previous video - yeah! Go for it - let your friend have a play. Shouldn't take her an hour (or him a few days!!! - :P !)
@@AbisDen Will do. I forgot to mention that the plastic housing doors don't open and will need to be pried off delicately. Ultimately, for safety she may have to work out a way to keep the loopers under cover if some of the plastic housing can't be used. Thank you for your reply!
Make sure you use size 80 needles and bigger. Use a phone camera to zoom into the threader, you should see the hook. If it’s slightly shifted, use the screwdriver to push it back to the middle. Chances are it’s not broken, just bent

we have a Toyota SL3304 overlocker with one of the tension dials broken (discs are just loose) would it be possible to make a video on how to go about addressing an issue with this type of tension dial please?
What size needle does the singer from lidill need please Abi
@@AbisDen thank you so much Abi
Please due the overlocker hacks! I was given a Singer serger from the 80"s and emailed you about it months ago. I overhauled it myself and it now works great, but is loud and vibrates. Would love to find a way to correct both issues. Pittsburgh, PA USA
