      Many thanks, I've been looking for "what is resource allocation in project management" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Seyily Substratal Smasher - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for discovering how to get amazing project management and business templates without the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my m8 got amazing results with it.

    Hi. Very educative! A question. I would like to set up effort-driven tasks such that project calculates the duration for me. According to project, 1 builder + 2 workers (as in your video) would complete the task in 1/3 the duration of 1 builder. In other words, project would assign exactly the same effort for all the work resources - but this is not the case.
    How do I go around this?

    Another excellent video. One question about resources. Can this be done: Assume you have a project, where you need to stake/position 1,000 survey points. One surveyor can stake 50 points/day. So, if you have only one surveyor, the project will take 20 days. But, if you have TWO surveyor, the project will take 10. 4 surveyors = 5 days. Is there a way to determine the DURATION of a task depending on HOW MANY/MUCH resources you assign to it? i.e. The MAIN TASK duration will shorten or gain length in accordance to the assignment of resources in the SUB-TASKS? I hope I am clear, and thanks for any possible reply.

    • @androidandroid9591
      @androidandroid9591 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vision6D Thanks, V6D. That part was clear, but PROJECT handles resources by assigning a percentage to them. If you increase the usage (in my example, from 1 surveyor to 2) the main task indeed reduces in time. But my question was: can you assign a VALUE to the main task (1,000 point) and have it shrink or expand depending on how the SUB TASKS increase the completion of the given value for the main task? In PROJECT, once you make a task dependent on SUB TASKS, the properties of the MAIN TASK are limited.

      Thank you for that interesting question. My answer is simple, I do not recommend to add salaries. You have a cost for work that includes more than the coworker salary. Like space used, admin costs, tooling, furniture, etc. It is easier to work in a project with an hourly rate that includes all of this than to go down to salary details. I do not know about your specific situation but you can have the analogy of the bill you pay when you repair your car. In my case there is an hour rate for the worker and I do not need to know the salary of that specific worker. What do you think?

    Dear Christian
    Enjoyed watching your videos on MS Project and helped me clear some of my doubts about MS Project.
    I have one question on resource esp for a PM. How do you account for PM time in the project? I have a situation where the PM is paid from the project budget at annual fee of $120K.
    If I pro-rate this as fixed cost over the 12 months of the project it will be $10,000. This is fine BUT this PM has also activities assigned to him in the planning and control phases of the project.
    Meaning there are tasks assigned to the PM. If setup a resource sheet for the PM based on his hourly rate then how do I reconcile the amount that is pro-rated at the same time these task he is doing. I will be paying him twice during the task period that he is doing. Can u suggest how best to account for the PM time in a project. Appreciate your input on this.

      Thank you for this interesting question about how to include PM costs in an Ms Project plan. The answer can be complex and deserves a video on the larger subject of PM tasks and resource in a project. To simplify it, your approach is correct define tasks done by the PM, not to detailed and assign them to a PM resource and cost them.
      1. Define PM tasks (Project Management, project control or more detailed etc.)
      2. Define PM Resource (type work or cost)
      3. Assign PM to those tasks, 100%, 80%, 50%, 20% or any other
      In your case I think you could explore a PM resource of type cost

      @@vision6D Hi, I have quick question. The help will be similar to small things like this: if I have task 1, 2, 3 and they all linked, so task 2 start right after task 1, task 3 start right after task 2. Now if I delete task 2, I would like MS project adjust automatically to make task 3 start right after task 1. How to achieve that? steedlei@gmail.com is my email. Thanks!
