  • Very interesting new mechanics, looks like AQ is going the DF route, I like this change as long as they keep the items status quo outside of challenges.

Dodgelash with big dictionary, frost titan shield (sometimes summoning stone depending) and ghost costume worked just fine with the wind pig pet. As an old returning player, it is nice knowing old items have a great meta use to get up to speed with.

I was looking forward to you doing it. I just beat it earlier today, took about 20 minutes for the whole thing. It was the most fun I’ve had in AQ for a while, and this series of fights is really meant to pose a challenge to your standard FO stun and nuke playstyle.
    I didn’t use:
    -Essence Orb
    -Shadowfeeder Pendant
    -Kindred
    -Hypercritical
-Healing pets / guests (including Fae’s synergy with Panic)
    -Shieldcakes
    I used:
    -Mind Gauntlet
    -Power Gauntlet
    -Soul Gauntlet
    -HP and MP potions
The first one wasn’t too bad, Whirl Tide did really well against it. I forgot to equip my energy shield while sitting in Necromancer armor so took more damage than I should have, otherwise it was pretty straightforward.
The second one was a massive pain that forced me to play a lot more conservatively than I normally would, basically I sat in Ultimon’s Armor + Luminous Shield + auto hit weapon (Perfectly Balanced Blade) + Osiris Misc. The attacks alternate between light and darkness and even with this defensive setup I still had to go through many health potions. The auto hit weapon’s penalty + hard damage cap meant I wasn’t doing a lot of damage at all and had to chip away at its health while sometimes spending 2-3 turns in a row healing. The defense buff meant that I didn’t even bother with another weapon.
The phoenix I died to on my first attempt because I was low on HP and didn’t know it revived itself. Other than that, once I got the hang of its mechanics it was not bad at all. I basically just sat in T-Rex armor + Heart’s Defender and kept hitting it with an earth weapon. The annoying parts were its heal and its long duration Choke, but other than that it wasn’t too threatening.
Anyway, it was a fun series of fights but the rewards gosh they suck.
Even though the third fight wasn’t especially challenging, I still made sure to have potions on hand (which I used) mainly due to the second fight pushing me to my limits.
I made a video on it so feel free to check it out and tell me what you think about my strategy.

It's tough if you're unprepared (like me in the video). If you know what to expect I think it's fine, I'll make another video on tuesday with a more optimized and F2P strategy
The misc reward is actually not bad, the spell is interesting but trash

@@KorribanGaming Yeah, I beat it on my third (or was it fourth) attempt and the Shadow Roc is by far the major hurdle. Although my strategy overall wasn’t really F2P, the armors I sat in for all three fights were all F2P. No Bloodzerkers, no Bloodmages, they’re pretty much useless.
The first I did it in Necromancer Cloak (Spellslinger) and Armor of Awe (Insightful), the second in Ultimon’s, and the third in Torontosaurus Rex Rider. I don’t know about others but this combo of armors carried me through.
I would really suggest having Luminous Shield, Osiris misc too, especially for the second fight. A -26% fire shield for the third fight, a good earth weapon (I used Troll Club- no toggle due to the Phoenix’s blocking stats) and that’s a start.
And I agree Ultimon’s Armor is by far the best armor against the Shadow Roc. I never expected that I’d ever use this armor again, but it carried me through the battle.

The first and last monsters are pretty easy. My normal boss fight strat works fine. But I dont own an armor thats good versus both light and dark, nor a shield. I sold Ultimon's long ago. So the 2nd monster was a pain. Died many times. Cheesing Zorbak and undeadify with Paladin did well, but I tried as a Lucky BM and felt I needed more HP's. Instead of going back and obtaining ultimons or some other similar armor, I just changed to a Tank BM. Backlash did fine on the first monster, but not on the 2nd. I tried many guest/pet combos, but settled on Hunter Drone on Harm Mode. Worked very well. I decided to use Plush Mort on SP mode and would use various Sp-based ele shields. I also used Cherub Protection for healing which also gives an ele shield. I ended up using Sol Neko that covers light but use a darkness shield and finally beat the damn thing. I think a darkness/light combo armor with a shield would have made this superb. Crystal of restless shadows may have been good as a misc. I just didn't have items to help me, but finally beat the damn thing.
Items- The spell is garbage. New mechanic but horrible outcome. You can't boost it with your own stats. Garbage spell. Did I mention, it's garbage?
The misc is good. But it's yet another catering to Rangers. Staff must be readying their own characters. The ranger focused rewards EVERY WEEK is now dumb. They're switched from making items that help their werepyre hybrid chars to their new up and coming ranger chars.
The challenge area idea-> Fun, but still kind of worried. Its fine to restrict some items, but if each new challenge fight ends up with an ever-growing list of banned items like I saw some people clamor for on the forums, then this idea will just become a massive waste of time. If it helps feed the egos of those "that don't play with cheese or OP items" then let me go find you a Great Job sticker for your Bat-Man shirt, but some players enjoy AQ due to powerful items. I HATE the old school AQ of just pushing resistance down as low as possible and spending 6968885456453664 minutes because you're doing 32 damage a turn on a 10k HP monster .I hope staff walks a fine line, and ignore those who are already posting the "what about these items " list. They need slapped.

I beat the said challenge at my mom's house. She has crappy internet, so changing out of her email address to mine isn't easy. She just picked me up after work and took me to my sister's house during the weekend. She's having a bit of a mental breakdown lately. Might make a vid. of me beating the void boss in my spare time. The boss fight is easy to do in void armors.

Yo just a small thing. When the last boss revived it didnt gain weakness to earth it started with 80% earth and 70% on water and wind but u probably just skimmed over the earth stat I did the same thing on the first boss.

I just did the whole thing with a Dodgelash setup. Made a video of it. It took me less than half the time of my previous run, only thing is I’d still have a few potions ready just in case the enemy lands hits through your defenses.
Mine was very basic, just Ghost Costume, Titan’s Fall, Pig Drake and Summoning Stone. Soul Gauntlet to recover SP. Didn’t even bother with Bun-Banneret to conserve SP. This and a few healing potions was all I used.

You'll have a very easy time with just backlashing/dodgelashing. Damage cap doesn't matter much if you have multiple sources such as EoC/Fan Cameo/Agra Linnorm/Summoning Stone. For F2P guardians, you can do the usual Pally + Undeadify combo and play defensively. Not really needed but you can cheese with QC healing like stacking Neko, Kindred Shield, PR and rewind shield like Doray/Father Time/Mystic Time.

I literally just beat the thing with Backlash earlier today. It took about 10 minutes. I still used a few potions, but this time the Celestial Phoenix was ironically the most frustrating fight because it doesn’t do a whole lot of damage which means less Backlash damage. On the other hand, I was able to take big chunks off the Shadow Roc. You can see my Backlash run on my channel. Note that I’m new to Backlash so I’m far from optimized, plus I don’t think it is an overall viable main strategy apart from certain situations.

Can't seem to beat this with a FO setup. However, managed to do it quite comfortably with a defensive beast ranger since most of the boss mechanics don't penalize your pets and guests that much.

    • @AbsoluteZero6714

It can be done (at least as a Mage), and the first and third monsters aren’t too bad, but the second one will make you question life. I would stock up on potions. The first one was fairly straightforward, spell spam in Necromancer armor with an energy shield and I used Whirl Tide. Recover HP and MP as necessary.
The second one you should be in Ultimon’s Armor with Luminous Shield, Crystal of Restless Shadows. I personally used an auto-hit weapon during the time its defenses were boosted, otherwise you can hit it with Lorekeeper’s Oath set to Harm toggle or a decent earth weapon like Troll Club. This is where you will probably use most of your potions. A healing pet or guest is helpful, but not necessary IMO if you’ve stocked up on potions. Either way, be prepared for a tedious fight.
The third one is easier than it looks, with its only gimmick being the fact that it resurrects after you kill it the first time and gets about half of its original HP pool. This makes for a total of 10.5-11k HP. Sit in a fully offensive fire armor, equip a fire element shield, smack it with your earth weapon. Heal up as needed. Its heal is kind of annoying, but you’ll eventually take it down by repeatedly spamming attack.
This was how I did it. It took about 20 minutes.
If you’re interested, you can check my other two videos with one being a Dodgelash run (arguably the easiest I’ve had it) and a Backlash run (a bit more tedious).
