You never make anyone feel foolish for their practices, only guide them to using different and more flattering techniques. You are a consummate professional and I have learned so much from you. I absolutely agree I have a round face and the only way for round face is to do it where it should be. We are not worried about face pulling up or down. We just want cheek bones where the cheek bone suppose to be 🤔.

    Definitely better way up hut my only question is the color of the Mario stick seems warm and not a cool ‘gray-ish’ brown that they say is normally ‘contour’.
    Is contour and bronzing starting to be used interchangeably and that they are basically one in the same. I’m only asking because I’m truly confused. I though contour was the cool grayish brown and bronzer was the warmer brown. Please let a girl know.

    • @jordanshaw5500
      @jordanshaw5500 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes contour is traditionally a cool toned grey-brown. It is meant to mimic shadow. Bronzer is meant to mimic a sun kissed glow, so it is much warmer. Now in saying all of this, you can use a bronzer to "contour" which a lot of people do. It can also depend on your skin colour if you should use a slightly warmer contour or a more grey contour. Now that you know the theory you can experiment and see what you like. 😊

    • @jordanshaw5500
      @jordanshaw5500 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Also I should add, contour placement and bronzer placement are different. Bronzer is applied where the sun would naturally hit, think tops of cheek bones, nose, forehead. Contour is used to create shape on the face. Cheekbones, shoeter forehead or slimmer forehead, different nose shapes etc.

    • @bellalou-go894
      @bellalou-go894 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe it depends on the shade. I’ve watched some who say you can use bronzer as a contour.

    • @solveigrose5537
      @solveigrose5537 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What I found a useful bit of information on that, bronzer that comes without shimmer can be used as contouring product, whereas shimmering ones will not do the job and are only usable as bronzer, or to highlight certain areas - I was confused because I have never seen bronzer without shimmer until kjh showed it on her channel - guess I know what it means to live in a rural area 😅

    • @tammyeaton4791
      @tammyeaton4791 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, if you have a cool undertone, and Nikki has a warm undertone, a given color will look different. The make up by Mario contour stick in like medium has a cooler undertone but that does not mean it’s necessarily right for you.. if it is helpful, I have a fair complexion with a pink undertone and use the Milk Makeup Contour stick in Toasted.

    As a professional makeup artist of nearly 20 years doing every type of makeup imaginable, I never teach super general do and dont to people because everyone’s face structure is so very different. What’s flattering on one person really isn’t on another. It also depends on the goal the individual wants to achieve for their own custom look. Far too many people are placing “contour” and blush so high up there’s little space between their lashes and the blush which doesn’t look flattering on literally anyone at all. It’s weird and very obviously not natural or even natural looking. Further it’s always funny to me that really young artists, instruct people on how to look younger with makeup placement. Unless you have a face with mature skin, it’s really hard to convert what actually looks good on mature skin. For me I use models to show that and I teach individuals on to put makeup on their own faces in the most flattering way for them specifically. After all, that’s the reason people watch these videos anyway, to find out what they can try on themselves to look their very best.

    • @ole340
      @ole340 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been a make up artist for more than 30 years, I have a mature skin and always was expert in those, this woman has the best advices I've seen till now. I'm a coach too, sometimes I show on myself, because the movement is different. Her advices are good on anyone, about the line not going lower than the nose, specially if you're aging. I learned some of it from Kevin Aucoin, even if he was a more theatral fashion artist, sometimes doing too much shows you the right path to light changes.

    • @ole340
      @ole340 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've just seen your videos, I would bet you learned make up as an aesthetician, not as make up artist, the place of the shadows and the colours are really wrong, it's ok because you're pretty, but try to change it, you'll see. And use some lighter material, it'll be better for your skin and the appearance in the day light. You're pretty, you don't need that much!

    • @anitasangervasi
      @anitasangervasi ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ole340 I actually learned makeup as a makeup artist first, working in Hollywood with Emmy award winning artists. The placement I’m using is correct for my face. And I disagree that everything she says to do will work on every persons face there is no such thing as one size fits all in makeup. The “contour” on the cheek bones is the giveaway on that, it wouldn’t work on someone with an oblong face, it would make their really long looking jaw look even longer and more masculine. As a professional makeup artist you should know at least that much since it’s one of the first things we are taught. I got my aesthetics license later and it’s only helped me become an even better artist. It’s okay for me to point out that flaws in what someone else is teaching in how it pertains to not being great for every persons face shape, which is isnt. It doesn’t mean she isn’t a good artist. Only that what she’s teaching doesn’t work on every face shape, because it doesn’t. If in 30 years of makeup you didn’t learn proper placement for corrective makeup on oblong faces and jaw lines, then I would suggest trying out a school specifically for makeup so that you get a proper foundation with various instructors that work in the industry and can offer direct support in addition to the text books, live class instructions and practical exams. Then go and train under the Hollywood elite artists after you graduate. This is what I did, many years before I got my aesthetic license. And I never stop learning.

    • @anitasangervasi
      @anitasangervasi ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is important to note that not every artist is good at knowing how to do makeup on women of color like myself. I understand that the colors they think we should use and the placement they think we should have doesn’t actually align with what is best for us.
      “Traditional European” features have longer straighter noses that stick out farther from the face and therefore nose contouring will be entirely different on their faces for example. Same with the colors they choose for a contour to better compliment lighter skin tones with less yellow undertones.
      But for women of color like myself, our color use and contouring, even around the nose will be very different than our European counterparts. What is flattering on then just isn’t always flattering on us. In many cases, when I show up to a makeup job, I’m usually the only artist that can do women of color makeup properly.
      Nothing taught in this video can apply to women of color whose noses are flatter and wider, nor the face the is wide and round, nor the skin color that is deep and rich in melanin. I’m absolutely confident in what I saying and would regard myself an expert in it. The artist in this video I’m sure knows she isn’t truly speaking to every audience, just a specific one in which this will work for and that’s okay. She’s still a great artist. Just doesn’t work on all women.

      @@anitasangervasiI agree with you 100% on everything you said. I’m no makeup artist nor am I an expert but the true makeup artists I follow (most are British for some reason!) all do what you suggest - use models with different skin tones, textures and features. And none of them suggest a “one technique fits all” approach. That’s the thing about these trends and hacks - they don’t suit everyone’s face shape. Also, sorry the other lady was so rude and condescending to you! I watched your videos too and there was nothing wrong with them.

  • @runijones2625
    @runijones2625 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I’m sorry but I just can’t get behind the high contour. Contour is meant to go where shadows are and to enhance your own face shape, not change it. Unless one’s cheekbones are super high, the shadow cast by them are not as high as where most people are applying contour. The higher planes are more for bronzer. Also at this point, blush placement and highlighter are also going higher which looks bizarre. Blush is meant to replicate a flush. People get flushed in the cheeks, not near their temples!! To each their own but I think I’m sticking to what’s flattering to me and my face shape.

    For people asking you can still shape the face with bronzer.🎉 Contour, yes, is cooler toned but the lines can be blurred people. I have to mention it depends on the shape of ones face you can slightly contour with a cooler tone and bronze alot more all over the face down the jawline ect, neck if needed. Everything makes more sense in the context of what you think suits your face 😊😎✌️ ❤ from Australia 🇦🇺 😊

    I like the "hollowed out" look vs the "fuller" face look, idk why, maybe bc I'm from the 90's 🤷🏽‍♀️

    But for some face shapes this is the correct and most flattering way

    As a trans girl I’ve noticed that contouring on the hollows of the bones gives a more rounded and feminine shape to the face and it balances out the jawlinefrom looking so sharp as well vs doing it on top.

    How do you keep your blush/highlighter from not looking muddy when you have everything so close together up there in that spot? This is my most difficult thing to do with my makeup- contour, blush placement etc. it always just looks like crap after 30 minutes.

    I think it really depends on face shape. I softly contour the whole side of my face but less so in the temples because I have naturally hollow temples and a square jaw. I can look manly if I do contour in the natural contours of my face. It's just art.

    I like my contour to be a bit masculine. I don't identify as male but just really like the angular features of Angelina Jolie. She is so beautiful.

    The right side looks like contour but the left looks like blush. Which make me wonder, if you’re applying your contour/bronzer so high then where will you apply your blush? On top of contour?

    If you watch her before face clearly then you can notice her face is asymmetrical so the cheek on which she's applying contour higher is already a little slimmer.😊

    It gives a more lifted look to the entire face. While the other way does give a more chiseled look I still prefer the facelift.

    This is the case because that contour almost looks like a blush it’s so warmed toned. Most contours are really bronzers/blushy

    I don't use bronzer/contour. It looks muddy on me. Blush on my cheekbones is enough.
