While it's true, I must admit they should tone down some spell effects in their base state to make it playable without going blind on raids. Some of them are just completely overkill, like the group speed buff. I mean, it's just a speed buff, no need to flash out the whole screen for that :D
Not to gatekeep or insult, but if you consider the cutscenes a big hindrance you're still playing FF too much like you would wow. The journey to level cap is not something to rush through. It's not like wow where you miss out forever if you're not present for a raid before it goes obsolete; party finder and level syncing will always provide you with an avenue to experience every raid and trial at level with roughly the same experience as when it was relevant. That's just a wordy way of saying there's no reason to rush, because unlike wow, endgame isn't the entire game. One of the reasons why the FF community seems to get along better is we went through the story together and though it's the same story, the experience is different for everybody. It's something to bond over, talk about, cry over together. Don't rush it, and take the time to soak in the story and setting. FF has a nicely planned and mostly well written story that really starts to put the pieces together after 4.0 finishes the setup.
Exactly. I think the biggest point here is that the endgame, while fun, is not forced on you. You don't HAVE to do the hard content if you don't want to, and because of that, it HAS to be good for players to want to do it. On top of that, as Naoki Yoshida said several times, they make the game with casual players in mind. The kind of person who won't necessarily be able to play every day to sustain having the best equipment and be able to do the only content the game has to offer, as it's the case in too many mmos. In fact, he has gone on record saying that he'd rather see people unsubscribe from the game during a content lull, have fun in other ways, even with other mmo if they want, and then come back when new content drops, because he doesn't want people to get burned out from the game. Plus, as you pointed out, endgame content in FFXIV never becomes obsolete. I see people running party finders for the Coils of Bahamut raids to this day, and that's a content from 2014. Or 2015, I can't remember. But it's several years old. So I agree with your arguments. I think that, honestly, FFXIV has to be considered for its story first, and anything about endgame content is completely optional and, as I said, as such, HAS to be good to get people to play it. It's not like it's the only thing you can do so the devs can make a shitty grind and be like "haha you will still play this shit so why should we make it good?"
@@void9938 A little tip if you havent, go check out all the optional dungeons from each expansion, the 3 extra trials in each expansion, Raids and Alliance Raids, Tribe quests from each expansion, Relic Weapons, Doing one of each Role Quest for ShB and EW to play a nice side story at the end. Depending on what you like, there Minion, Mount, and Triple Triad Card collecting, if you have and FC theres fun in customizing your house with the mates as well. But if none of that interests you, the best part is you can leave and come back to re sub and play the new MSQ in ~4 Months :)
A little tip when playing XIV. Usually in trials and…well pretty much any instances content, you might wanna zoom your camera out instead of keeping it situated behind your character. This helps you to see when mechanics are happening on the whole stage
Nice&honest review. If I may suggest: - you can turn down effects in char. customization - from footage I see you are in 4.0 which is generally considered worst patch after ARR, so 4.x is gameplay & narratively much improved with enourmous amount of content(Eureka,4lords,raid tiers, more dungeons, solo instances become way way less clunky like the one you have fone with Zenos,..) -raid in StB&ShB&EW are superior to previous exp. due to their age and ps3 limitations+ 2 ultimates! Hf and take your time with the pace you comfortable with Cya on top of Kugane tower xD
Raids in heavensward and ARR are brilliant and frankly some of the more original fights the game has to offer. With also more original mechanics. To say SB, SHB and EW are better simply is not true. Further more, the PS3 limitations were simply RAM limitations, this did not effect the raids
oh my god i had turned on my effects for the first time in a while to kinda learn how others did tank while i learned the job but .... oh my EYES. promptly remembered why i turned off all effects but my own x_x omg lol.
I think it needs to be said that story in FFXIV is FAR more important than in WoW. In WoW, the world and the story you make of it is what matters. In XIV, the story is everything. It defines every aspect of the game. So, in the case of this particular MMO, you can't really place the MSQ under the same category as 'questing' as in other games because the MSQ here is so fundamentally different.
I'm glad you found FF14 to be enjoyable. Just dont be like me who skipped the story for 6 years into the game. When Shadowbringer was announced, I had a feeling this game was special with its MSQ. So I gave it an honest try. Prior to this, I wasn't much of a story guy nor a reader. But after giving it a go all the way thru Shadowbringer, I can honestly say I understand why I wasn't a story guy. I was handed a mediocre one before and I quickly judged this is how it is. And reading doesn't seem like a chore when the story immerses you and you want to keep going. Sometimes it takes a game like FFXIV to detox your old bad habit you picked up along the way.
Whenever a friend of mine starts FFXIV the first thing I walk them through is lowering other people's spell effects. I have my own at full, party on limited which allows you to see beneficial aoes, and everyone else's effects off.
Welcome to ffxiv. There's a lot to take in as a whole but over time you'll find yourself more familiar. From what it sounds like you'll probably enjoy it more as you play more so I hope you keep at it!
So I playing WoW for... well... 15 years now and I kinda agree with you. Overall I hate leveling, in WoW and in other games too. So far, the next expac for WoW looks promising, but I might be just too high on hopeium. I tried several MMOs with my friend, non of them could keep us playing for a longer period, some of them were P2W, some of them just boring, some of them didn't offer that mutch. For FFXIV... well... none of the activities you mentioned got me excited. Playing a card game? Nah... If I want so, I just play heartstone (I did and time to time, I still do), Player housing? Nah... I just play other game for that, with my friends, where we build our own house/castle whatever (ARK for example). What I really enjoy in WoW... is PvP... sometimes a little PvE (Some M+ dungeons and a little raiding with the guild), also I do enjoy doing legacy achievements, exploring stuff (Sometimes looking up eastern eggs and visiting the locations etc.), collecting mounts, or just wandering the world and doing world pvp, also sometimes I do enjoy the lore, especially in some zone's main quests. Anyway, nice vid+ 1 sub from me. See ya!
I agree leveling is pretty annoying, and I too have high hopes for Dragonflight, though at the time of uploading this video I would have bought it, however after playing FF14 for a hot while, I’m not too sure anymore, Pyro mage is still incredibly fun but gunbreaker… gunbreaker is fun
@@itsnanablitz For me, the new class is looking fun too. Tho due to talent revamp and the new class... I expect season one going to be a bit unbalanced. :D On the story side of things, well, the material is there, its up to blizz what they'll do with it. As to compare the two, regarding story, WoW has a vast story, even tho there is not a cutscene etc. after every single quest. Usually cinematics are only in the main questlines. Side quests are usually just voice acted or have scripted events, if they are important. But overall I don't mind, I rather play the game, than watch a small movie after every single, little act I do. Overall, nice vid and honest. Great work and maybe see you around in Azeroth. :) (Even tho, I play in the EU)
i think you should have included "story" in your core parts of an MMO. it isn't really covered by grind since you're only playing through the story once (at least in ffxiv) and it is a major part of your experience. if you leave it out you leave out what most people love about ffxiv.
this ffxiv is not just about endgame the game starts as soon as your character is created and the story begins. EVERYTHING is tied to the story so if u ignore that u ignore a huge if not the entirety of the game
Welcome and good luck on continuing to explore the game. I hope you have lots of fun and meet lots of cool people to raid with. Would love to hear your thoughts on the more difficult tier raids when you get there. Gearing up for those is actually pretty comfy in comparison so really just grab a bunch of friends and try it when you get there.
I think WoW is more toxic because there's so much to grind and in a way even cooperative events are competitive. For example...You ruin someone's Mythic+ run you have just given them a somewhat serious setback. And joining a group will be based on your gear score or some Achievement you've achieved. You fail either of those tests no one's going to give you the time of day. Hell, just being a specific class/spec combo will make you a pariah.
not to mention the disturbing stuff at blizz now and the devs dont care and arent part of the community. theres a reason everyone who plays ffxiv looks up to yoshi p and the devs are a part of the community
@@Nytrusdeathcyde What disturbing stuff? Are you talking about the sexual allegations against those who worked on the pre-MoP era? And the devs have been very much engaged with the community since 9.1.5.
I think the biggest problem with wow is during Wrath just about everything was achievable by the player base, now only the top couple % players achieve very high level keystones or get cutting edge . Most players want to finish the expansion and receive the rewards if it’s gear or transmogs, titles, mounts etc…… but most things are not achievable do to skill or time needed. The game caters to the top% of players who play, rather then the player base or players who are older have a wife and kids and a job were they can play a couple hours a night. That’s the reason why all these boosting community’s sprung up in the years following Wrath and to date keep growing. The normal player can not compete with a world first player but is bound by the game design to do so, until they dumb down the game and make more things achievable by the player base and not boosting communities they will unfortunately keep losing players.
I know this video was posted a while back, but I am stuck. So I enjoy both games, but it feels like the WoW playerbase is so split. I mainly play mmos for pvp though, is FFXIV pvp alive? is the community not as split as WoW?
Heya! I get what you mean, now in my personal opinion pvp isn’t the most important activity for me, but in general, FF pvp is wholely instanced, if plays roughly the same as WoW accept that your gear and level means nothing as everyone is defaulted to the same level, and your abilites are changed so that all classes can hold their own. I never got super into the pvp of either, I personally enjoyed wow pvp more because I didn’t have to learn a new moveset for pvp, but in my personal opinion if your looking for really good mmo pvp, I would say check out ESO, but if your sticking to tab target games, I would say you need to feel it out for yourself as they both fee very diffrent to play. But play base wise it’s an alive scene, and it’s not as split as your faction doesn’t affect as much as it does in wow
@@itsnanablitz Ive tried Final Fantasy and did enjoy the pve content more than WoW. Just wish there was like an arena system in Final Fantasy also since the classes seem a bit cooler
@@Glenjii Im not sure what you mean wholey by area but I will say that FF pvp is mostly all arena based, if you mean more of 1v1 and 2v2 like wow has then Im not sure, though there is a dul option in pvp areas in FF
not a bad review but it's clear you haven't done FF14's end game raids. As someone who's been a mythic raider in wow and seen savage and ultimate fights in FF14, FF14 does raiding better then wow. Another reason the community in FF14 is better is HOW raiding is designed with class design. In wow most raid bosses can be cheesed by ignoring mechanics and just DPSin the boss. In FF14 you can't. Getting angry at someone for messing up a mechanic won't help you clear the boss it's more likely to make things worse. On top of that it's a Japanese game, meaning they expect you to have someone japanese manners. In FF14 if you call someone a noob, that they suck and should uninstall that can get you perma banned. A good video to watch would be Preaches new video of the Shadowbringer catch up area, it shows how systems in an MMO aren't always a bad thing. Other then that it was a good review, I understand it can be hard to walk away from a game that you love. I've played wow on and off for 16 years and FF14 for 7. I want wow to be good again but it will take a lot of work if the devs ever want to see the game return to form.
Thanks a bunch for your thoughts! And your right, I haven’t participated in any more then just face value raids that the story gives you, and while I completely understand your point and agree with it for the most part, WoW raids feel like an event which id say is more impactful that the physical raid itself, BUT, I haven’t tried any big raids in FF so that opinion is subject to change. Though I don’t understand your point with how it’s not an American game, I can still agree that getting mad is something that just isn’t really present in FF raids, I would personally tribute to the raids being more fun and also the shortcut you get if you die. Thanks a bunch for giving your thoughts!
@@itsnanablitz The reason it being a Japanese game is important is culture. A LOT of Americans love the claim their "freedom of speech" to say anything they want. While that's not how it works it's something that is common, and American game creators let abusive chat go on so not to cause anyone to leave the game. In FF14 they don't mind banning people they feel are bad for the health of the game. Just imagine for a moment in WoW if calling someone trash got you perma banned, would wow have any players left? Minor note is many of the leveling raids (Mostly ARR) had had their mechanics removed to make leveling easier. FF14 fights are normally a dance, you have to learn how to avoid everything while doing a complex rotation. It's not uncommon when learning savage fights you hit the enrage and the boss has 40%-60% health left. As players practice and learn the dance generally they learn they have more then enough to kill the boss. Wow's more gear and borrowed power based. If you can't kill a boss most players will just get a little more gear and then are able to kill it.
@@bryia3366 I cant say I understand how the culture would effect much, though it does make sense to punish those that are being a nuisance, and your right, most of WoW would plumet if bans happened for less then pleasing behavior. I will say that the fights of anything in general are more involved and intresting then in WoW, hence why I think my opinion on them will change, though for now I think that WoW does raids better. If the max raids in FF are anything like the Trials, I can imagine that they will be much more fun to be a part of. But overall I do think my opinions are skewed because of sunk time into WoW, which is something Im willing to admit.
How I see the raids between games , having done both mythic and savage, is that WoW raids are a tavern brawl, where overwhelming force is just as viable as fighting cleverly, while FFXIV is an intricate ballroom dance, where just a couple of missteps can lead to disaster.
Anyway, my main complain right now about FF14? Is the lack of Astragalos... aka Oppose Wings or something like that, theyreally got to fix that up big time
Others mentioned a couple things you missed. The settings for special effects. The fact that FFXIV isn't another "grind quickly to max level and raid" game. It's about the story. Yes, there are crystals and dragons and elves like in WoW, but the story actually makes sense and is written well enough to be moving. Playing the story is actually an important part of enjoying the game, so if you skip the cut scenes and dialogue boxes, leveling would be a lot of nothing except for the dungeons and trials and single-player duties. Factions always seemed silly to me in WoW. Both factions are fighting the same enemies and then you pretend you are at war with each other for PvP. I like that in FFXIV you can go into PvP and only skill matters - not gear or level. Raids, FFXIV designs theirs differently with the 2-minute rotations and burst windows, and I haven't raided in WoW for many years, so I don't know if the enrage timers that are standard in FFXIV are still just occasional dps checks in WoW or if they're important for every boss now.
I liked WoWs factions from a world building perspective, but gameplay wise I think FF does it better- Though PvP wise I can’t wrap my head around FF, I played many days of WoWs pvp and I head my fun with it but something about FF isnt clicking there, I try here and there but still feels I can’t do anything with iy
Depends really- TF2 if I feel like playing causally, Majoras Mask is pretty much perfect, and while I’m not too good at it Doom 2016 is Probably one of the best shooters to exist (would be TITANFALL 2 if it got more support)
Some people always say that about FFXIV, that there are too many effects on the screen. But you do know that you can change that right? you have the option to limit the affects you see from your party/alliance members, or to not see any at all. Soo tbh that really isn't an issue or problem, because you can fix it in your settings (which is an easy fix)
I think WoW players have some unhealthy "endgame obsession". It's not a race, FF14 offers so much on every step of the journey, that you can take your time with all the MSQs and enjoy the cutscenes, as they are usually fun and well written. Good writing is a major factor that makes people love the game.
One of the bigger perks of playing FFXIV over WoW is the fact that the proverbial chains of domination that keep you from your fun just do not exist in the former. That and the devs actually do have faith in their features, not forcing progression through them out of fear they would never be touched upon.
You might be extremely confused come shadowbringers if you've been largely ignoring the story so far (I'd recommend setting some time aside just to get a recap via the neverending story in the inn if you ever end up getting lost at any point in the msq story)
4:19 - Well thats what _melee_ see, I play ranged so its not quite as flashy to stare at and there is an option in the settings to segregate the spell effects to show only yours, effectively removing everyone elses flashy poofs.
Love the casual honesty of the review. I'm glad you're having a good time the only part I wanted to ask was if you could elaborate what makes WoW raids just better? I don't have WoW experience and if I'm honest playing doesn't interest me as I don't like the art style and more so I refuse to support Blizzard in any way at this point. That aside I'm still curious as to what makes the raiding just so good?
While I have sense changed my opinion on that, as the time I thought that because wow raids felt more like an event then FF’s. I think the reason would be that raids are THE endgame for wow, while raids in FF are just one of many endgames, I wasn’t looking forward to them as I did with wow as there were other things I wanted to do instead of raids within FF
@@itsnanablitz Okay that makes sense, and I'd love to watch another video on the subject should you choose to make one! Thank you for the feedback and I look forward to more of your content 😊
Played FFXIV 8 months straight until storm blood. Leave 6 months. Came back and currently finishing post-shadowbringers. The game has almost not obsolete content like wow.. I feel there's no need to rush, 10/10 The only flaws I found in FF is the lack of open world, combat responsiveness and the dams retainer system
A good video. In my opinion the biggest thing that WoW needs to do to make it feel like an MMO again is to give the end game multiple progression paths rather than just raiding and pvp. The casuals need something to do besides just farming older content for mounts, pets, etc.) Crafting, farming, housing, and whatever else you can think of. And don't just funnel it all into the raiding and/or pvp systems.
i mean there is an option where you can remove all the effect or reduce it to minimum in FFXIV but yeah i admit our combat system is not as good as WoW WoW has better combat system
I know that you didn't need the story to get hooked on Final Fantasy and that you referenced Jocat in your video. Have you ever considered coming back to the story in any of the ways Jocat mentioned at the end of his video, maybe not the traditional way with a new character or new game +, but maybe in alternative, no-nonsense ways like through videos or such? FFXIV is one of those games where many have asserted they hate story or thought the story was in their way and believed they would never enjoy it (and some ended up that way), but I feel like this one game is the one that I've seen the most converts happen from purported "story haters" ending up changing their minds into liking this story. I understand how cultish it seems to try and convince someone of something their pretty comfortable knowing they hate, its just that for myself, I've never experienced a story so powerful and impactful that it feels criminal that I'm experiencing something so amazing and not sharing it with others who haven't experienced it or refuse to experience it. Like I recognize how cult-like I'm sounding and its that good that I don't care.
Hello, thanks for the essay Lel, but yeah I do plan on watching all the cutscenes for ARR(which is the story I didn’t care about) I did start slowing down and enjoying it about half way through heavens ward, while I do think it’s a good story, I also think it’s a bit of a slow burn that I don’t really care for when it gets really slow-
Really, in the end, it comes down to one thing: I actually look forward to group content in FFXIV, and I cringe *at the thought* of having to deal with the selfish, toxic assholes of WoW so much that I left it completely, and I'm not even buying or playing Dragonflight, and have no intention of doing so.
That video was done just before I reacheted shadowbringers where I did stop and enjoy the story more, but after playing for quite some time, the story being long is kinda the hurdle many people I know get stuck on, it’s a daunting task, especially ARR. I personally didn’t care much for the story(not in the sense that it wasn’t good it just wasn’t what I cared about) I do think the actual content in FF surpasses WoW is almost ever way, so I do prefer FF and continue to log in daily, I finished the Hildebrand set of side quests and I must admit it’s my favorite, it’s quite silly.
Though I don’t really participate in group content as I am a stubborn solo player who refuses to try to find a constant group lol but yeah I did not really like the shit I sat through in WoW, though I am an MMO junkie and am playing through dragonflight, I’m pleasently surprised though I doubt it will return to being my main hame
@@itsnanablitz Yeah, after reading some other comments, I realized my original comment was a bit harsh, so I backed it out, evidently not before you saw it. My apologies. But, on the group content comment, I'm not a huge group player either, but, in FFXIV, group content is a palatable option. Doing Main Scenario for 5-600 stones a pop, at the cost of not being able to skip the cutscenes becomes very worth it, because the people I'm doing it with, no less strangers than the pugs of WoW, make it enjoyable. Even if it's a bad day, and the new healer missteps and you wipe...it's not a big deal. We just get back up, *maybe* comment where they went wrong, if they don't already know, and continue on to the finish, and enjoy our time. Life's too short for the ragequits and all that comes with it in WoW. Glad you enjoyed Endwalker, etc.
Yeah I see most comments as they are posted, I’m still quite small so I constantly get excited to see comments, but I do get where the original comment was coming from, the story itself is quite a good one, though I could only comfortably experience it through a video on it.
I think it's good to not think about your GC as factions in FF. They're all allies and it has no real baring on your character outside of what city/emblem/color you prefer for your GC. It's nothing like WoW, Aion, ect's faction system.
Looks like he didn't have a mythic+ experience in WoW either, completely glossed over that endgame. Seems like a review that's missing a massive insight into both games.
Heya! Yes I did not talk about mythic+ as I’ve never done them, most of the casual player base of WoW haven’t, while I can’t speak for everyone I can say my reason is that it’s very minmaxy. FF has alliance raids which are more akin to WoW raids but the others are more like trials, which I can say makes things go by quicker, but doesn’t feel nearly as grand and daunting as most wow raids tend to feel which is where my opinion that WoW raids are better comes from
The story is a major aspect of FF14. Other MMOs have conditioned their players into believing story is secondary and unimportant. We see this all the time with WoW refugees skipping through story content and complaining that they don't know what's what. Skipping the story in FF14 is akin to skipping all dungeons in WoW. You're missing out on a lot of good content. As another TH-camr explained, WoW is an MMORPG and FF14 is an RPGMMO.
Maybe I'm preaching to the choir, but if someone thinking about trying XIV comes across this video and this comment I'd like them to know you should not tackle XIV as a "grind" to reach "the endgame" and that there's a lot of content not mentioned here that you can choose to do -or not. And yes, raiding is one of those things too. Now, to elaborate on my gripes with the actual video... I'm not sure the distinction between "the grind" and "then endgame" translates well into FFXIV, and questing doesn't fit into them at all. The main story quests (and some side quest chains whith their side plots for thing like raids etc) are at the core of the narrative that it's going on, and that's something that needs to be stressed: FFXIV is a narrative experience. You can skip the story, sure, and still enjoy the game, as much as you could order a hamburguer or a sandwich, only eat the meat and still enjoy it. Then most other sidequests are there only if you want some tidbits about lore but for the most part they don't have anything to do with grinding for some kind of reward. Story and questing aside then, "the grind" and "the endgame" sometimes overlap and with each expansion we get more content, some of it grindier than other and most of it it's not even mentioned here. There's Deep dungeons, Exploration zones, Relic weapons, mount farming, treasure hunt, duty roulettes, gathering and crafting... And nothing of that is required if you are only interested into raiding, which, despite the community being often labeled as "casual", is a really big thing in FFXIV, to the point of job balance revolving about the higher level difficulties raids and its fight design. Sure, a relatively small percentage of the community tackles harder content, but that's because there are so many other things you can do have fun, and the best part is that content does not become obsolete with each new expansion.
Graphics comparisons are the weakest comparisons to make on these games imo. WoW has very outdated graphics that people like because its "stylized", the problem with that argument is if they made WoW in 2015 instead of 2004, i dont think they would have used that "style". Also, saying WoW is meant to raid and thats why the effects are subdued is also moving the goal posts. The effects are like that because it was made in 2004 and that was good at the time. People like to gloss over the graphical limitations of WoW by saying its a style and performance, which was true in 2004, not 2023.
Heya! I do agree that the effects being minimal were a product of their time, however i do believe that they have been kept fairly minimal for the reason of clutter in raiding, plus after dragonflight I also think not having god level visuals for spells adds to the fantasy of “your one of a hundred adventurers” kinda thing
@@itsnanablitz See you say kept minimal, I say that's the maximum power of the game built in 2004, its not like they can just migrate to a more powerful engine. They have tried beefing up their graphics a few times, with slight border sharpening as a result. You probably don't remember this because you started at BOA, but this game looks the same as 2004, which is why it has that nostalgia factor for people, because it hasn't changed. Which is fine for those people who can't quit the game even if they wanted to. I am just saying everyone gives WoW visuals a pass because they call it a style, when in reality they should have moved to WoW 2 with the warcraft "style" and actually better graphics.
I would love a WoW2 i think the game is too old and large for its own good, too much stuff, too many systems no one uses. I love azoroth but man sometimes I wish they would just blow it up and start a new age of Warcraft
If you are in ARR the goes better in heavenguard and stormblood and goes incredible in shadowbrinders and endwalker. The best story in a video game for me comparable maybe mass effect or dragon age 1. Just continue and you will see.
FF is just too eastern for my taste. Everyone looks like anime character. It looks like a newer version of Lineage 2. Also why does the UI look like something from s sci fi game, when it's supposed to be a fantasy. And the story is of little interest if there's too many dialogues without voiceover or any player choice. What I like though, is how tight the game feels in terms of netcode and engine. Movement feels just as good as wow's which very few MMOs ever pulled off.
the ”eastern” look will disappear and you wont think about and even come to prefer it. The ui is is decent. Very customizable which is nice so these complaints are rather small and something you overcome.
I get what you mean with the UI, though I would put that in with it just being Final Fantasy, Id say they always had a very specific clash between the game and the UI, but it is up the ones own preference. As for the story comment, I agree wholeheartedly, the story is a slow burn and I only learned to enjoy it after really taking a moment to enjoy it.
FFXIV PVP is kinda absolutely trash, but Crystal Conflict coming out in this patch cycle gives me some amount of hope that they'll actually do something with PVP. Also, yes, the MSQ is very cutscene heavy, it's mostly because this is very much an RPG first, and that can get really draggy for a lot of people. It's a bit bloated in places still too, but it sounds like they're looking to at least trim some more of the early content fat in the future. I absolutely loved the entirety of the MSQ, but long term I have to accept that some of the early content is bloated with unnecessary dialogue and time wasting.
'factions' in ff14... "I'll choose the yellow one." 🤣 _Yellow faction forever! Blue and Red suck!_ 😉. Yeah not really important especially now that the PVP front lines zone don't break you up by what Grand Company you chose like they used to. For a limited time event I had to switch to Maelstrom because that was where all the good players were and I needed wins!
I have never heard anyone simply boil down the factions to colors, I think that over-simplying hyperbole. when people say faction, they say Gridania not "the yellow one".
Speaking from somebody that played roller barcraft since 2004 I get where you're coming from The only thing I will say as far as questing yeah it is a little bit longer however that is because of a difference. Remember final fantasy is more story based the narrative and story are actually a big part of the game and let's be honest and World of Warcraft it's just not. On top of that I would say that lute is done a lot better in final fantasy you know there's less RNG Telephone where you want to bash your head up against the wall. Overall do I think final fantasy is a better game yes There's more stuff to do the rating is better you don't have to run back by the way.
Honestly the communitty in both is like black and white. Wow got worse and worse thanks to the companies leadership as is even more clear with their story and lack of communication, if your company refuses to listen to you is no surprise the fans will start to get frustrated and earn such toxicity. I don't think theres anything left that has not being said. Wow needs to change otherwise we might see it become like those 2010 mmos with very few players and even becoming another pay to win. (Probably not just yet but i wont say is not possible if they keep going like this) I do want the best for wow as i still semi play but we can't hide it's flaws and it's bad direction.
Funny you bring up graphics. As of announced in the last big Live letter. Final Fantasy 14 will be getting a graphical overhaul for 7.0. Its unknown I its going to be done incrementally or all at once. Most of the community has been using mods to upscale 14 if youre playing on PC. Since the game was designed as a promise to be played on the PS3, the engine itself is halved. When they discontinued ps3 support at the end of the first expansion. The engine and graphics got a slight upgrade...currently due to change in tech. PS4 will still be supported by XIV, until more PS5s are adopted. So they are probably setting the technical foundation for another update once ps4 hits its end of life. Also I never understood the segregation of factions. I found I completely unnecessary and a actual roadblock. WoW and ToR both did that and when I played ToR (because WoW has cartoon aesthetics and reminds me of those niche kiddy mmos). It always felt like you're dipping into half the pool to run content. Even when ToR sort of did away with the segregation, (similar to WoW) it felt better maybe because the story writing is better than WoW and is well...star wars. 14 never had that issue and was just a smoother experience from a dungineering standpoint. Also Bellular and Preach said it best. WOW conditions you to race to endgame because that's when the game starts. Final Fantasy 14, the game starts at level 1 and you go through the whole game as if you're playing a flagship title from Square Enix. It just so happens that 14 adds mmo elements, every expansion has its raid (coils for 2.0, Alexander for 3.0, Omega for 4.0, Eden for 5.0 and endwalkers new raid), it has its bosses and new dungeons. You have to fundamentally Chang your mindset to get the most out of 14, and granted there are people in this game who only play the game for raiding....even then eventually some of them end up stopping and smiling the proverbial roses.
🐱We have exactly the same opinion and feelings, bro. Thanks for saying that for me. 😊 I still get a few things that FF has a plus: - Wow had a lot of useless things that I had to do 6-8 hours of farming a day to play 1 hour of content that I really enjoy or am interested in. in FF I just need msq and some extra unlocking quest - FF má lépe udělaný příběh tím, že utváří příběh ve hře. ve Wow jsem si musel přečíst knihu a tak dále - FF has a larger balance class / job than WoW
Started in BFA and "put so much time into WoW". 😆 I started WoW in *Burning Crusade.* I was very unhappy with BFA. And Shadowlands was so bad I quit playing after 3 months (even though I had purchased a 6-month sub). Been playing Final Fantasy XIV since early 2019 and enjoying it still. 👍 WoW would have to do something spectacular for me to consider going back. While I'm not a big fan of a mega corporation buying up other giant corporations, Microsoft might be able to whip Blizzard back into shape. 🤷♂️
Andy? Well I’m not sure what that means but yes I did skip most cutscenes and dialog up until the later half of shadowbringers, was a bit slow but I do plan on mentioning the story in a follow up vid at some point as it is something i heavily missed out on, even if ARR was a pretty slow
Awesome video 🙂 As a long time veteran of FFXIV since 2.0 with partial 1.0, I always enjoy videos like this transitioning from one home to another while not completely abandoning either or. There much MUCH more stuff you might have been told about FFXIV that can be some highlights to another updated videos of your progress. 🙂 And I know it's late to say this, but Welcome To FFXIV 😀
I would say WoW has more furries but yes we are mostly casuals, but I do think that is why the game is successful, I stopped playing wow because I was a casual and found it hard to enjoy the game at the level but I get where you are coming from
A good tip, pull back the camera to max when in dungeons to better see the AOEs, and it reduces the strain on your eyes when it comes to spell effects.
4:10 You can limit the effects you see in character options.
Yeah when people constantly bring up the over the top spell effects I'm like cmon mate you should know it can be turned off 😑
While it's true, I must admit they should tone down some spell effects in their base state to make it playable without going blind on raids.
This. I'm honestly panicking having gotten to the lvl 90 EW quests. I don't know what I'll be without the MSQ to look forward to.
If I may suggest:
- you can turn down effects in char. customization
- from footage I see you are in 4.0 which is generally considered worst patch after ARR, so 4.x is gameplay & narratively much improved with enourmous amount of content(Eureka,4lords,raid tiers, more dungeons, solo instances become way way less clunky like the one you have fone with Zenos,..)
-raid in StB&ShB&EW are superior to previous exp. due to their age and ps3 limitations+ 2 ultimates!
Hf and take your time with the pace you comfortable with
Cya on top of Kugane tower xD
can't agree more with the first suggestion, i CANNOT play the game with other people's effects on, it's just too much clutter
@@martinaraya2705 Honestly at this point, Other player effects should be set to simple by default.
Only true gamers made it to the top of the Kugane hostelry by themself
I think it needs to be said that story in FFXIV is FAR more important than in WoW. In WoW, the world and the story you make of it is what matters. In XIV, the story is everything. It defines every aspect of the game. So, in the case of this particular MMO, you can't really place the MSQ under the same category as 'questing' as in other games because the MSQ here is so fundamentally different.
I would bet he boosted to not even make mention of story or complain about how there's too much dialogue
You can turn down/off either the spell effects of other people, your own, or both in the menu. Enjoy.
On the story side of things, well, the material is there, its up to blizz what they'll do with it.
You can turn off spell effects. Its the first setting in character settings.
Yes I found I got much better in large party engagements when I turned down everyone else's spell effects and could actually see what was going on! 🤣
@@Glenjii Plus as of 9.1 I think, pvp was for the most part redone so if you havent tried it with the changes i dsay check it out
@@itsnanablitz oh yea I misspelled lol. I meant like the 2v2 and 3v3. But I think imma give final fantasy a try though
not a bad review but it's clear you haven't done FF14's end game raids.
After telling reason as "all the happening at blizzard" i just don't expect objective opinions about games so i ll leave video there.
What's Your Favorite Game Blitz?
Depends really- TF2 if I feel like playing causally, Majoras Mask is pretty much perfect, and while I’m not too good at it Doom 2016 is Probably one of the best shooters to exist (would be TITANFALL 2 if it got more support)
FF14 looks, feels and plays like second life.
I used to play world of Warcraft but got bored so I picked up Final Fantasy and have to say it is a lot more fun with so much to do.
One of the bigger perks of playing FFXIV over WoW is the fact that the proverbial chains of domination that keep you from your fun just do not exist in the former. That and the devs actually do have faith in their features, not forcing progression through them out of fear they would never be touched upon.
3:20 here we go, for the horde omg
I should probably do another video on the game sense I finished the whole MSQ and got more involved with things
I feel there's no need to rush, 10/10
The only flaws I found in FF is the lack of open world, combat responsiveness and the dams retainer system
At the end of the day it’s still a final fantasy game so of course there’s a lot of dialogue
i mean there is an option where you can remove all the effect or reduce it to minimum in FFXIV but yeah
i admit our combat system is not as good as WoW
WoW has better combat system
Looks like you didn't had a raiding experience yet in FFXIV. FFXIV raids are as good as WoWs for me, and way more interactive with all players.
FF has alliance raids which are more akin to WoW raids but the others are more like trials, which I can say makes things go by quicker, but doesn’t feel nearly as grand and daunting as most wow raids tend to feel which is where my opinion that WoW raids are better comes from
Did u mean to say Jenova?
I'm just curious cause I'd love to say Hi!
Yes, is not what I said lol?
@@itsnanablitz i thoughT i heard geneva XD
I think the standard migration would be WoW the guildwars then FFXIV then back to WoW to keep things fresh.
Fox Avatar in video... Chose Horde... Played a Vulpera!? I'd have never guessed! 😉
Lol every player plays their own way, but I will say this, FFXIV’s emphasis is based on story. That is FFXIV’s main core element.
The one thing final fantasy is lacking world pvp
The story is a major aspect of FF14. Other MMOs have conditioned their players into believing story is secondary and unimportant.
We see this all the time with WoW refugees skipping through story content and complaining that they don't know what's what.
Skipping the story in FF14 is akin to skipping all dungeons in WoW. You're missing out on a lot of good content.
As another TH-camr explained, WoW is an MMORPG and FF14 is an RPGMMO.
I’m playing FFXIV and turtle wow, so technically I’m playing the best of both worlds
Gave FF a go but the gameplay doesnt feel as polished as smooth as WoW. Great story though.
I'm sorry, but WOW looks like Dog Shit, lol... I was a Horde player so I agree there.
Turn your spell effects down, problem solved.
I played the ff14 Nier Automata alliance raid…ok WoW has nothing on this lol.
This guy for sure boosted
@@Shiirow that's why it was funny.
(Probably not just yet but i wont say is not possible if they keep going like this)
I do want the best for wow as i still semi play but we can't hide it's flaws and it's bad direction.
Horde? Superior? Ha! Good one. Those are two words that don't fit in the same sentence.
For the Horde!!!
🐱We have exactly the same opinion and feelings, bro. Thanks for saying that for me. 😊
I still get a few things that FF has a plus:
- Wow had a lot of useless things that I had to do 6-8 hours of farming a day to play 1 hour of content that I really enjoy or am interested in. in FF I just need msq and some extra unlocking quest
- FF má lépe udělaný příběh tím, že utváří příběh ve hře. ve Wow jsem si musel přečíst knihu a tak dále
- FF has a larger balance class / job than WoW

9:04 "While its raids are the best in the genre, much better than final fantasy raids" Stop the copium brother, it's unhealthy.
Yeah, after 300 more hours in game sense that video I no longer would word it like that
Started in BFA and "put so much time into WoW". 🤷♂️
Looks like we have a story boost Andy since you didn't even mention story. Story is LITERALLY the most important part of FF14
Andy? Well I’m not sure what that means but yes I did skip most cutscenes and dialog up until the later half of shadowbringers, was a bit slow but I do plan on mentioning the story in a follow up vid at some point as it is something i heavily missed out on, even if ARR was a pretty slow
turn off player effects, its not that hard.
i dont want to play on your server with you because of how you pronounced it.
English is hard
nice video bro
Same, kid. Same.
omega biased
WoW raids better than FFXIV raids? I think not.
Awesome video 🙂
As a long time veteran of FFXIV since 2.0 with partial 1.0, I always enjoy videos like this transitioning from one home to another while not completely abandoning either or.
There much MUCH more stuff you might have been told about FFXIV that can be some highlights to another updated videos of your progress. 🙂
And I know it's late to say this, but Welcome To FFXIV 😀
"Story makes you feel bogged down".......What is this blasphemy??
It’s pretty slow and hard to sit through at first
I Heavily disagree.
Wow alaways looked bad and it still looks bad.
Its the main teason I never got into it.
Ugly as hell artstyle.
Honestly, without viewing more than 2 seconds of youre video, i know, by seeing youre furry avatar, that you like FF14 much.... xD
I initially hated the game actually, it took a hot while to warm up to it, if I was furry it would take a lot to rip me from the vulpera lol
Ff14 is a bunch of furries and casuals. WoW is way better.
Agreed, there is way more furries in wow
I would say WoW has more furries but yes we are mostly casuals, but I do think that is why the game is successful, I stopped playing wow because I was a casual and found it hard to enjoy the game at the level but I get where you are coming from
:)
So many things wrong in this video about both games .. well, all I can do is give a dislike..
Or you could tellme whats wrong so I may do better in the future
Nah you’re wrong pepper
A good tip, pull back the camera to max when in dungeons to better see the AOEs, and it reduces the strain on your eyes when it comes to spell effects.
