Every time I see the number 7 in an Essendon jumper on my screen, I know the ball’s in good hands. Can always trust Merrett with the ball.

12 clearances (most on the ground)
All while being manhandled by 3 players the entire game

Shiel was so important because he played the Parish role who helped let Merrett do his best work. Of course he gets in the team.
how does daicos still get votes when he was 40% by foot. Wasn't close to Collingwoods' top 5.

He had 2 back to back kicks that went to Essendon players and then commentators said he’d kicked 2/11 targets, then checked the AFL app and it said 0 turnovers. Haha they even rig the stats for Daicos they love him so much
@Littleyeti7 you don't know what you're talking about. They don't update the stats instantly, check the stats now, it says 3 turnovers.
You clowns will forever hate on a top 5 player JUST because he plays for Collingwood. I guarantee if he was playing for Giants you clowns would be calling him the GOAT
Because commentators and umpires get drawn to the “stars” of the game. He was around the ball, still got 31 possessions, but most of it was average at best because of the pressure by Essendon. If Daicos gets Brownlow votes for that effort there should be serious questions raised.

@@antonalbo could easily have been talking about Collingwood; apart from round 22 against Sydney at the SCG, all of their games (including the Essendon game) are actually at the MCG.

@@TheLaughingMagpie They just have too many on the injury list to repeat. Agree. Better to restock. Pendlebury isn’t getting any younger, Sidebottom should’ve retired after the flag and there’s not enough depth.
@@richardwood9177 If I were Graham Wright, I’d decline to sign on any player over 30 coming out of contract, this year it’s Sidebottom (past it), Pendlebury should call it a day whilst he still has a gallon left in the tank, Howe and Will Hoskin-Elliott who plays one good game in a blue moon and is a headless chicken the rest of the time, next year, the over 30s out of contract will be Elliott who has had his fair share of injuries, Mitchell, Mason Cox who should not have extended 2 years and Mihocek whose body will be plastered by the time he comes out of contract
Past our main 22, we have a few first round selections who are underexposed with the likes of Edward Allan, Reef McInnes, Finlay Macrae and Harry DeMattia and some later gems including Harvey Harrison and Joe Richards (who I can describe as The Likeable Joe to Essendon fans (I rarely find an Essendon fan or an AFL spectator who likes the other Joe being Daniher) and also Richards has a good backstory)
We do have the luxury of trading into the first round this year using our 2025 first rounder as Tom McGuane is forecasted to go in the top 10 at the least apparently so we can trade that pick knowing we have a first round selection coming through
But as you say we don’t have much depth which we should look to top up but unfortunately building depth takes time
@@richardwood9177 if I were Graham Wright, I’d decline to extend any player over 30, so this year it’d Steele Sidebottom (who was actually an Essendon fan), Scott Pendlebury, Jeremy Howe and Will Hoskin-Elliott and next year it’ll be Tom Mitchell, Mason Cox, Jamie Elliott and Brody Mihocek
Past our current 22, our list has several underexposed first round recruits including Edward Allan, Reef McInnes (the grandson of one of Bomber Thompson’s former player sponsors), Finlay Macrae and Harry DeMattia with a couple of late gems in Harvey Harrison and Joe Richards and we have Tom McGuane coming next year and I’m confident that Tew Jiath, Charlie Dean and Jakob Ryan will come good and Josh Eyre (albeit delisted by Essendon, but yet again Adrian Dodoro just lusts after high end selections and sees anyone past that as disposable) looks like he would be a good project player to work with, he has upside as a forward
But other than that, we don’t have a lot of depth in experience but have talent on that list that can and will be refined and developed
I’m looking forward to the pre season the most, which says a lot
