    Probably the best interview with Salmond I have seen, none of the political power play we see with Paxman and the likes just a good jovial chat about the future of Scotland, for or against Independence, it's just good to tone down the rhetoric.

  • @YouCannaeDoTheBouncy
    @YouCannaeDoTheBouncy 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is always left out of the discussion is that historically support for independence is only around 25%-30% across Scotland. In any event, it is certainly not a question that is going to go away any time soon.

    I don't know much about Scotland but this First Minister seems to be eloquent and have a clear vision of what he's going to do... Living in a country that is not being recognized as independent despite its de facto independent status myself, I envy you guys.

    One very very clever man. No? I hear you say?
    He is a legend in his own life time. He has got Scotland to a stage that 300+ years has fought to prevent.
    It takes a clever smart man to get to the position we are presently at. I for one tip my hat to the guy. He is and will be a hero when the Scottish people suddenly realise the huge wealth this small country has.
    Can you imagine Cameron trying to speak as openly LOL

    Alex Salmond is the most passionate, forward thinking, legitimate politician to grace Scotland, neigh... the United Kingdom, neigh... Europe, neigh... The world!
    He's pretty good. If you watch First Ministers Questions the guy is a powerhouse. He using these things called "facts" to back the legitimacy of his politics. IT'S WEIRD!!!

  • @dcanmore
    @dcanmore 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Salmond doesn't want a Devo Max question because he's already won the independence argument. It is clear that the independence movement in Scotland is growing, I've been onto Labour Hame and Tory Hoose websites and the Scots Labour and Tories on those forums have pretty much conceded that Scotland will vote for independence.

    Arbroath - Circinn, the declaration of Arbroath is considered as possibly one of the the earliest forms of democracy in Europe, where the people of Scotland, the Scots, were the actual sovereign of Scotland rather than the parliament or crown and were the living embodiment of Scottish sovereignty as recognised by King Robert I of Scots in the 1320 in the Declaration of Arbroath and re-documented in the 1689 Scottish claim of Rights.

    Here is food for thought. I work on a production platform and we recently had a visit from one of the main guys of our company.
    When asked about profits we were told they had made in one year, £225 million profit (or there abouts) AFTER the Government had taken its 80% tax from them!

    Ireland was tied to the £GBP Sterling from 1922 to 1968 because it made economic sense to them at the time. Independent Scotland would want currency stability to tie in with economic growth for the first few years, so yes, it does make sense. Many countries have tied currency to others such as the US dollar. Also the Scottish people own 9.6% of the Bank of England Treasury, and there is no such thing as an English Government, it doesn't exist now, nor in the next few years at least.

  • @dcanmore
    @dcanmore 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ BobTheMunificent @Gizmomadug The Statistical Accounts of Scotland of the day reported that the parishes of Scotland were in rude health economically. So Scotland wasn't broke, but it's nobles were as per Darien, thus, as Bob says, they were handsomely recompensed by the shovelling of the Acts of Union... ergo anger erupts nationwide by the common folk.

  • @dcanmore
    @dcanmore 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @BobTheMunificent @Gizmomadug continued ... another proclamation was issued 'against all tumultuary and irregular meetings'. In Glasgow, Dumfries and Lanark people had taken up arms: they were 'insolently burning the Articles of Treaty betwixt our two Kingdoms'. Sheriffs & magistrates were authorised to take whatever action necessary to quench the riots. Scot Parliament received countless protests, another proclamation in late Dec1706 forbidding 'unwarrantable and seditious meetings'.

    The hilarity is Scotlands economy is based on a dieting energy. When the oil price gets to high and/or runs out...... If they're independent they will be screwed

  • @dcanmore
    @dcanmore 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Westminster would never allow it because they would still lose out on the oil and gas revenue, Scottish taxes and Labour votes. Independence or Devo-Max is a lose lose situation for Westminster. Their hope is a no vote for independence and the status quo will continue as it stands today, but even some Tory and Labour establishment are now coming out admitting independence is inevitable.

Every logical conclusion that can be drawn demonstrates a prosperous future for an Independent Scotland or as I'd rather call it... Scotland. This is a big deal. We get to FREE Scotland. I urge everyone to act on this. To participate in this momentous historic feat that is the emancipation of Scotland from Westminster rule. Confidence.

    Hating the English might be an issue for a minority of Scots, but that's it. If you have to lower the tone of a strong political, economical, social and cultural debate to claims of xenophobia then it says far more about you than any nationalist. I am Scottish nationalist and a firm believer in independence for many reasons, hating the English is not one.
