Sustainable Luxury is about discernment and responsible choices. A connoisseur has knowledge and an understanding of the process and pedigree of a product.
Patrons of the arts and crafts have a deep understanding of that medium, and in India this is known as having ‘Pehchaan’ which roughly translates as identity, insight or discernment. To share the journeys and joys behind our craft collaborations, we created the “Pehchaan” series of short craft documentary films in 2015.
Through these films, our endeavour is to offer insights into various handicraft traditions and discuss what distinguishes them as unique and thus valuable.

Fourth in the series, ‘The Gyasar Weave’ highlights the ‘pehchaan’ hallmarks of our Kashi satin silk brocade cushions:
1. Original design
2. Handloom brocade by Banaras master weavers
3. Woven with the finest mulberry silk that accounts for the quality of its sheen and evenness in texture
4. 7 weft colors, each requiring exponentially more weaving time, for a sublime shaded colour play effect
5. 4 warp threads through every dent and a generous thread count that account for the weight and lustre of our satin weave
6. Fineness of the pattern translated on the loom
7. 200gms of ‘zari’ (gold thread) woven into every meter of the brocade
8. Thoughtful pattern play edging design detail
9. Ergonomically weighted cushion
