real, i remember being on my grandmas floor flipping my shit bc i was surrounded by mirelurks and out of ammo so i was running deeper in the tunnel to find stims and i just abt shat myself
I always imagined the radiation in fallout is different to real life in that once the radiation destroys the dna there is something that starts rearranging things. Maybe a disease, maybe FEV, if'n so maybe thier dna was rearranged in a way that they can breed with eachother. The queen being the culmination
I always thought of it as. Bigger creature = Rads Some kind of Freak = FEV But given Deathclaws, Tunnelers and some others you think would be FEV were made like that or really unclear. Doe personally, i think FEV got into everything some more then others, maybe that how come rads didnt tactically nuke everything into freako level.
Yeah pretty much bang on I think. Pretty much had same thoughts. I mean gigantic syndrome through nuclear radiation isn't a complete fantasy. It's a solid scientific theory now. Scientists still studying effects of Chernobyl have discovered the local fish in nearby rivers and streams , and wolves have already mutated somewhat to suit the environment. Though it'd take a lot more than just gigantic syndrome through radiation to evolve freaky creatures like mire lurks, kings and queens, for sure. FEV is definitely present every where in the wastes, FEV and radiation together have created the strangest creatures in the wastes definitely.
@@Subject_Keter This was originally planed to be the case in Fallouts 1 & 2. Almost all of the mutations in Fallout were supposed to be caused by FEV (even Ghouls) or just a mix of FEV and Rads, but this lead to a lot of auguring between the Devs until they finally decided that Rads and FEV were in fact separate. Also Deathclaws were made with FEV. As for Tunnelers. . . well Ulysses seems to believe it was Rads, but even he doesn't really know.
Im not sure if this was stated in any game or by a dev but it was mentioned that sometime after the bombs dropped FEV was dispersed in the air and every living creature got some sort of exposure besides the radiation
I swear the Fallout 4 mirelurks are the main reason i learnt to find cricket and buy the Spray and Pray. You shoot them it like "nah, I win" You melee them and they block like a Dying Light 1bandit. You crack them up open with 5 rounds? Just perfect. Doe i think it interesting how you can look at each of mirelurks and the reaction like "yep, makes sense to me"
Aren’t Anglers and Fogcrawlers also considered Mirelurks? Also, side fun tidbit. The Mirelurk Spawn are Sand Lice. Managed to hand-catch one before, looks just like them.
I don't think so. At least, not by the games' standards. Plus, you never see Anglers or Fog Crawlers working with other (water based) creatures, unlike Mirelurks who cooperate with different (Mirelurk) species
Most detailed rundown on mire lurks I've seen so far. So mirelurk meat tastes like biting into vulcanised rubber.? I always thought softshell mirelurk meat would be more like lobster or regular crab meat? Also just learned that mirelurk kings outside of Commonwealth are decended from turtles, learn something new every day. How something that looks like it walked off the set of Creature from the Black Lagoon , could be decended from a turtle, I don't know. But that's the beauty of Fallout lore.
It should be noted for less immersion fans, that the Mirelurks from Fallout 3 are the canonically the same as the ones in 4/76, it is just that Fallout 4 redesigned them. The same is probably true for the Lakelurks in NV, although you could also try to headcanon those as their own entitites.
The fact that some people believe that the Mirelurks from Fallout 3 and 4 are different species has always annoyed me. Like it's just a redesigned, it's not that deep. Also i've never liked the fact that they added Lakelurks into New Vegas, they just don't fit all that well.
@elvis5008 I get that. For the Lakelurk thing, I *theorize* that it's was a necessity thing rather than an active choice. As in, they needed an enemy for areas around Lake Mead, so they just slapped the models from Fallout 3 in there. Though, that is merely a theory, a game theory.
I love the og Fo3 Mirelurk kings I remember when I was younger I made a small one out of wire and clay and I put it in a small school project that had to do with the ocean floor 😂
I guess the reason the Mirelurk Kings are called kings is because of their enhanced intelligence, but it's also kind of funny to assume they are the only members of their species that are allowed to mate with the queens. Just a frog and his giant girlfriend, lol
The 3 and NV versions of the Mirelurk definitely have a more cohesive design than 4 and 76. With the older games you can really see the evolution of the species. Basic Mirelurks are already bipedal and given that the Kings are as well, its safe to assume that the bipedal lurks would all be male. Similarly, the design of the Queens in 4 would suggest all the generic lurks in the Commonwealth are females due to the similar designs. Kind of like Pokemon
I like the 76 and 4 designs because they feel more ‘grounded’. I’ve always just assumed that the queens were a result of extreme sexual dimorphism and every other one was male, like bees and ants, or termites. The differences between hunters and regular ones being like a soldier ant to a regular ant. I’m not sure about kings though, I feel like they’re a different species entirely that hangs out with the other lurks.
Makes some sense. Could also explain why you find eggs in places where a queen came fit, like university point. I had always assumed they were like bees with a queen doing all the breeding but maybe they aren't. Maybe all females can lay eggs, the queens just can lay instant hatching eggs.
@@tycol322 I’ve never really thought about that before but here’s my best guess. Ants often move eggs to a separate chamber for safety, I’m thinking the lurks do the same thing, they move the eggs to a safer location.
I think that they came into contact with the same mutigenic chemicals that made the deathclaws just smaller less regulated doses on top of the radiation gigantism found everywhere in fallout
I’d like to think the design changes with fallout 3 and 4 mutants can also be rounded up to regional variations in these species mutations, not just differing styles. Fallout new vegas kinda ruined it before all that being a possibility just from sheer virtue of having exact reskins of fallout 3 mutants on the other side of the continent some of them not even making any sense for them to exist in the desert.. (seriously why tf are ‘lakelurks’ a thing?)
The first time I saw Mirelurk kings scared the f outta me
It's the faces, they're eerie
real, i remember being on my grandmas floor flipping my shit bc i was surrounded by mirelurks and out of ammo so i was running deeper in the tunnel to find stims and i just abt shat myself
And then it turned invisible💀
Actually the commonwealth mirelurk kings are actually based off of fish instead of frogs because of their fins
Ocean man, take me by the hand lead me to the land - that you understand

Nah that's just a made up fan thing.
Fallout 3's version of the mirelurk king is more terrifying than their commonwealth cousins 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I always thought of fallout 4 mirelurk kings as more of a lionfish but I think that is just because of the fins on it's back
@@elvis5008They actually count as mirelurks in the kill mirelurks daily and weekly missions, so they are mirelurks as far as the game is concerned.

The fallout 4 redesign of the mirelurk is so much better

I suspect a genetic link between mirelurks and fog crawlers
I be lurkin by the mire edit: why am I first this was posted hours ago?

There is also lakelurks
The video is about Mirelurks, not Lakelurks
Would be cool if mireluk queens swam after you underwater
Why on god's green earth would you EVER want that nightmare!??
I love the sound of the sonic blast of the Mirelurk King in Fallout 4, it's so eerily cool.
Underrated content!
At some point could you please cover the amphibious species of fallout 4’s far harbour?

Chitin is pronounce with a hard “K” like chaos not the soft “ch” sound like chimney. “Kai-tin” not Chit-in”
Preciate that, ive always called it the schit-in without a second thought, but Kai-tin sounds cooler 😎
What was the jazz song you used at 1:30? It’s super familiar
Im pretty sure ( not positive) that it's some good old fallout music
Anglers are also mirelurks according to 76's daily mission to kill mirelurks.

The first time i saw a Mirelurk king i thought it was a mutated Atlantean 😂
This is quite a bit of context but is west coast power armours different models to east coast power armours?
Mirlurk hatchlings look like sand fleas
I'm under the opinion that anglers are a variation of Mirelurk King
Maybe? But why aren’t they in the commonwealth then? And the completely different look.
