      Thank you. I think it will be a pretty place when all of the work is finished, but is going to be difficult to get the businesses and people to come back.

    This is a really interesting video which shows a disturbing demise of our high streets .

    My home town. I haven't been back since 2016. There are precious few decent shops left.

      It does look sad. I just hope to see improvements every time we visit, but there are precious few.

    Todo en obras. Recordamos las cajas de tartaletas rellenas al ver Marks & Spencer.
    Buenos cafés con leche y tostadas, etc. para el frío, en el bar/pub.
    Gracias a todos.

      It is funny how we hold on to that sort of attachment. I have a similar feeling for my place of birth.

    What a sorry state of affairs. It’s a ghost town. But you never know it might grow to be something special. Let’s hope. Thanks Steve.

    Most of the businesses moved out long before the groundworks started.

      The Internet and online shopping has a lot to answer for.Iv'e lived in Yeovil all my life and have witnessed a lot of changes in and around the town.Big super markets taking trade away from smaller businesses,the Yeovil bypass that runs straight through the centre of the town cutting it in two.Now the works in the town centre that has run millions of pounds over budget to provide us with a big water feature that the night time drunks and vandals will ruin.

    • @SteveandAnitainMallorca
      @SteveandAnitainMallorca  ปีที่แล้ว

      Big supermarkets started it all years ago. Now people don't have the need to go t the town centres to shop so there needs to be something else to draw them in.

    Steve - your fortunate mate, you can jet back to Mallorca whenever you want. Pitty us poor residents who have to live with this monumental ##### up! whenever we go into town or use the approach roads. Yeovil has been my home town since childhood , NEVER have I been so ashamed of the place!

    • @earlbee3196
      @earlbee3196 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, what a terrible ####up.

    It looks like a planned attempt to finish yeovil town off as a commercial centre

  • @nigelmartin9116

    Tesco's free car park is a magnet for people who want to go into town but don't want to use the town centre car parks because they don't want to pay a couple of quid.Then those like myself who go to do their shopping in Tesco's,end up driving round the bloody car park for ages trying to find a space.

      If the council want to get more people into the town they will have to make the access easier. That couls mean more free parking.

    Yeovil looks really sad. I fear that when the works are finished, it will be to no avail, as there won't be anything to go there for.

    I’m 69 lived in Yeovil all my life never seen the town look so bad what the point in sorting the roads out when the shops are falling down the council have not got a clue they have ripped the town apart someone getting paid a lot of money for nothing end of 😡

    Such a shame for Yeovil town centre. They should have worked in fazes they could have controlled. But they just seem to be spread all over the place

      Something needs to be done to bring it back to life.

      You're right.Not just Yeovil.If people can order just about anything online and have it delivered then the shops will be empty.You can even order a coffee online or over the phone now and have it delivered to your door.So it's not surprising really is it to see so many run down town centres?

      I don't know what the answer is, but surely they can come up with something.

      The electorate need to take a close look at their local councils to see how they are spending their money.
