Please re title this video. This cassette is NOT fake. It is not pretending to be Shimano, it is proud to let us know it is a genuine ZTTO product. ZTTO is highly respected elsewhere in the world. I have had great experience with their products and communication.
This has already been done an hour ago. I’m not sure why it’s not showing up with the correct thumbnail for you yet? Please can your refresh you page and let me know if it has changed?
@@aidanmasterson50no, it only means ZTTO cassette fits HG freehub,. If according to your logic, all wheelset makers beside Shimano out there are fake because they manufacture their freehubs in 1 to 1 Shimano standard.
The back piece is bolted on because it would not be possible to CNC machine a part with that complete shape, it has to be made in two pieces. The CNC machine has to have access to both sides of the cassette cog tree in order to produce the shape. Look at the SRAM Red cassette and you will see that it has a similar construction. I think we have become accustomed to thinking that any complex shape can be produced easily because it can be 3D printed that way, but that isn't true when using other methods. Also, all 12 cogs are part of the same steel monoblock, it is only the rear spider and central column that are (likely) made of aluminum. I have the XDS 10-36 version of this cassette as well as an 11 speed SRoad 11-34 cassette. So far they both have around 1,000 miles on them and they show almost zero wear aside from a bit of the black surface treatment having worn through. I agree that the shifting is about 90% of the Shimano cassette, but it is more than good enough for me.
Thank you! This really helps me so I appreciate the deeper understanding. I’m not an engineer so I have no first hand experience with CNC and its limitations.
I think that’s a very good use case for these cassettes. Pairing them with the Chinese group sets to, as you said, breathe some new life back into an older bike.
@@cyclingunboxed For sure. I love the frame (it's a Kona Wheelhouse), but it had a kind of dated Tiagra groupset with mechanical disc brakes. I really don't want to spend $1000+ putting a newer 105 groupset on this bike. But, putting this L-TWOO groupset on gave me a nice upgrade to hydraulic brakes and 11 speeds in the back. It also looks sharp af with a black cassette, black chain, and all-black crankset. All for a very reasonable price.
I am running the same cassette but in gold color and your opinion on it is spot on. I concur on your points about it. To me it is a worthy upgrade from my previous ultegra cassette.
Definitely a big weight upgrade. I think as long as you aren’t racing and don’t need that final 10% of shifting performance then it’s a good buy! Love a gold cassette too
I have an 11 speed one but the 3 smaller sprockets are steel and the rest are aluminum. I have been using it for about half a year and over 2k miles. Very happy with it. No issues at all. I would agree that the shifting is slightly slower than the SRAM pg1130 I had on it before.
The weight similarity to Dura Ace is even more impressive when you consider that the 6 largest cogs on the Dura Ace cassette are made of Titanium, which is not as wear-resistant as steel and costs a lot more. I really think that Shimano needs to consider going to a monoblock steel construction (as SRAM has already for their Red cassettes).
I do agree with this. It’s something I have wandered why they haven’t done it for about 2 years now. Part of me feels it is that way for advertising purposes. It makes the cassette feel more exotic when it has titanium it. Just a theory though.
Looking at a 11 speed 11-40T the ZTTO is 80 grams heavier than the S 105, though... 3 cogs are 1T larger, might be an explanation Else they both look the same, with 10 steel cogs and one in black aluminium. It's half the price than the Shimano, though! 25 vs 50 euros. Looking closely the teeth are all the same, while on Shimano they are different types, some more pointy than others...
@@DR_1_1 The largest monoblock steel cassette by ZTTO is 36T. That 40T cassette uses conventional stampings riveted together. Much heavier than the monoblock construction.
Brought the same ztto 11 32 cassette this week , reviews seem really good , such great value for the weight , when compared to a dura ace or red cassette 👌 looks like its made alot like the sram top end cassettes , love the fact they dont eat into the freehub
Been using the SLR 11-36 on for a year now and its been holding up and it shifts pretty good with my Sensah groupset but I noticed when I upgraded to a Shimano 105 Groupset it didn't shift as good but it worked. I later upgraded to a Shimano Cassette and it's a lot better, I guessing Shimano"a rear derailleur works better as complete Hyper-Glide system.
I've been using the super cheap ($10-$20) cassettes and so far they have been just as good as the Shimano Deore which cost me over twice the price. Wear well.
I have two bikes and have run ZTTO cassettes on both. On my main bike, the cassette was worn out within 6 months. I bought another to replace it. The reason for the premature wear, I think was down to not replacing my chain at the same time I installed the cassette. My other bike got a new chain at the same time I installed the cassette and that has been fine.
I own them(by JFOYH) and A/B tested them with a wheel set that I still had a shimano cassette on. I could not tell a difference in shifting performance(AND I did not have any wax or lube when I tested it). (I'm better with chain care now) I recommend this. I love the oil slick one. mine are 11 speed, 11-36 ($71 on amazon cyber Monday)
I have the Goldix 11spd version, I am sure it's the exact same product. I think it's great, I do have 1 gear that it doesn't like shifting down into but I can live with it for the price and weight 😊
Seems to be holding up for me so far. For me, I thinks it’s weakness lies outside those parameters. Shifts just fine but not quite as nicely as the shimano full system.
Pro tip, grab a magnet and see if it adheres to the largest sprocket (which does have ramps machined into it) Aluminium isn't magnetic, so that's the easiest way to check if it's steel or aluminium. (Probably won't be titanium anyway)
Same experience as you, i've run this cassette on two road bikes- works great, really durable, also using waxed chains. Shifting of course is not as smooth as shimano (90% there) but for the price and weight it is really great. No complaints here!
information on top three sprockets is on ali express website. Should stage if this is a ZTTO gen 2 or Gen 3, based on the weight i'm guessing its a gen 2
Easy way to tell if the largest cog is alloy or steel is to use a magnet. If magnetic then confirmed it’s steel otherwise nonferrous metal - very likely alloy.
It's not the chain, it's the shape of the hyper glide teeth on the Shimano cassette. So far, probably due to a patent(s), no one has copied this feature, and it does make for amazing shifting.
Lightweight but damaged easily! A better use for competitions, Shimano, is reliable, and good quality, and you can use it for training or a competition.
We live in the world where companies milling cassettes from a single block of steel instead of just using aluminum spiders and stamped steel or titanium sprockets, Ughhh. I so much like older Sram cassettes. They're cheap, light and long lasting. Not so long ago got new old stock PG-980 for my gravel bike.
I purchased 3 years ago 11 speed steel Chinese cassette, and tries to uses with Sram, and Shimano group sets, however I had issues with shifting, and significant noise, the fact that I paid only 70 Sterlings. No comparison to original cassettes, the weight is not everything.
This cassette is a pass for me. It is light (which only marginally matters if racing), but shifting isn't good if you are putting power down. For winter, i'd rather have a heavy more durable excellent shifting cassette for the same or less money.
They do. If you go on Ali express and type in ztto road cassette XDR then they do have ones that fit the xdr hubs. They seem just or almost as light. I can’t find a black version on there though.
Great question! Good and bad 😂 The good. They still seem to be stable, looks good, structurally the same and solid. The bad, the stem mount nightmares continue! I used the epoxy putty to mount it. The putty failed twice In a row. So I tried real carbon fibre! Layed it up, wrapped it in cling film to compress it. Let it harden. seemed rock solid. It was but I only layed up the carbon half way up the mount. This created a fulcrum point where the cheap plastic stem snapped. I should have layed the carbon all the way to the end of the mount. Now I have half a carbon mount stuck on there. I may try again and just keep adding more carbon but have been putting it off for a month. It looks terrible 😂
It’s a good idea. I think it would be tough, it’s a tight space where the cables come out of. The original bolt is also epoxy/ carbon fibred in where I want it to come out of. May see if I can drill it out though! Might be easier just to buy a new bar for this price but also don’t want to be defeated.
I noticed you re-titled the video, rightfully so. I was freaking pissed off with Caucasian and westerners terming anything from Aliexpress as fake. Bigoty. Your big brands bicycles used china OEM factory to produce their frames unless they said it otherwise. godamnit
Isn't your chain too short and the B-screw a little bit too far? Maybe this is the cause of the worse quality of shifting? Or this Wheeltop derailleur needs this kind of setup?
Unfortunately, it won’t get any closer! It’s wound out all the way. Although on the video, as you have noticed. I had taken the wheel off and on a few times. It sits high after you have pulled it back until you manually put it back closer. Then it sorts the problem out. For the chain length, any more links and it really starts to sag in the small chainring after about the 4th cog along. Once again, it was sitting in that high position but on a lot of the b roll it’s in its usual. I should have spotted it for the close ups on the video in hindsight but I missed it
Would be interesting. Got 30,000 on the dura ace 11s and still holding up well. I think it will take me a long time to get this cassette to that kind of mileage though as it’s for the winter bike
