Great video! A lot of valuable information as usual. Appreciate it. Watched a couple videos from other creators that covered The International Firewood Expo. Looked like a great show, hoping to make it this year. Happy New Year!
If everyone is heading a certain way in the firewood business going a different direction is usually the most profitable. That’s some top notch advise joe . No roses growing around here so so I gota get back to work . Maybe this summer I will plant a few rose bushes in the Woodyard so I can take some time off .
Awesome Joe!!! Thank you for the tour, and I too believe there is growth in my firewood operation as well. Happi New year! Great things coming 25' ~ Keith aka Cowboy Joy
Joe, another great video. You bring a lot to your channel from humor to business sense. I never get bored watching OWB . Happy New Year. As you always say, Have a great day.👍 Dave from Maine.
haha That is an old expression I heard about Occam's Razor. Something like, if you are hearing hoof beats, think horse, not zebra! Happy New Yr Dr. Beachy!
Happy new year Joe. You mention value adding to your products, and as you have talked about restaurants running out of firewood in the last couple of videos, it made me think of a possible value add. I don't know how far your customers is from your home or yard, and how much firewood they use, but would a "subscription model" make sense ? They pay x amount each month and then you make sure they don't need to remember to order and fill up before they run out. It could be done weekly, bi-weekly or monthly what ever makes sense in that regard.
First 20 seconds of OWB 2025…Baahaaha. 😂😂 Great way to start a new year. Elaine from Canada here thanks for taking the time to show and post . Have a great day, week, month and year! 🥂
Joe that’s super cool. Same here on power outages living out in the country has its disadvantages at times. A dream would be to be able to add solar energy with efficient battery backup. I installed Generac 24 KW on a mechanical pad I built. Can you do videos on your system??????? Have a great 2025
Happy New Year Joe, May 2025 bring you the best! This fall I started marketing kindling and short log length splits and it has done really well. For me and minimal volumes of inventory I have, this has helped me increase profits and reach a different customer base! Take care and keep on keepin on :)
First time seeing the Woodyard as wet as that. What an improvement over the old location and it was good publicity for folks to see those long rows of wood, dry to the tops of the pallets, which creates a very pleasing line for the eyes to follow. Count your blessings, reap your rewards, and have a great day! P.S. if you have done a video on stacking that includes little tricks about row leveling and bracing I wish you would let me know.
I just did some straightening yesterday but didn't film it LOL. It was stacked in the snow so after it melted the row started tilting. Next time I do that will film it buddy. Thanks Dave!
Piling wood is lazy and doesn't maximize the $$ of your efforts. Here is a recent vid I made to discuss. Thanks for watching Art. Please subscribe if you haven't yet! th-cam.com/video/1PhMGRvN2rA/w-d-xo.html
@ohiowoodburner ahhhh, I understand. Thank you for the direction and video. It is far more beautiful to rank firewood, absolutely. My market is different I believe. People who are buying from me don't need bone dry wood, just seasoned wood to burn for heat. There's also a lost of impoverished buyers. Through the grace of Our Lord, I have 110 acres of hardwood, storage space and old logging equipment to feed my processor / vertically integrate my operation, so my calculus is different. Really appreciate the perspective! Have a blessed day and good hunting!
Happy New Year Joe & to your family. Same to trucker Jessie & family. I sure hope Santa was good to Jessie with a replacement seat for his boom crane. 👍🎉🎉🎉
Joe they put all kinds of different products on the commodity market you should get that done for firewood. Then with your insider trader info you could make lots of $$$$. Y'all have a 👍 day
You sure have a lot of stacked firewood Joe, but I never see any video of you doing any stacking, must be the late night “wood elves” helping you out. I always enjoy your bits of sarcasm Joe and maybe someday you will put your firewood into bins and then you can fire the “wood stacking elves” and then they can go to Allen Family Firewood and help out poor Karen, Phil really overworks her. Happy New Year to everyone🎉😅😅
Joe, if you have trouble with your stacks falling over use Chris' (In The Woodyard) method of keeping the rows upright. Place poles, slats or old handles between the rows. This tends to stabilize the rows. Happy New Year!
If there is a way Joe that you can manufacturer barkless firewood it seems to be catching on you could certainly sell at an absolute premium Happy New Year to y'all as always extremely nice looking wood yard
probably but I don't know if I would ever do it. I get some debarked logs from time to time and the splits that come off the center of a log have no bark but I don't think there is a market for that here...at least that I would want to deal with
Joe: Happy New Year from Castalia ,Ohio! I have always been surprised that the wind doesn't blow over your neatly stacked rows! May your Hickory pile grow !!! Looks like you could use a little gravel between your rows...
just gotta go with what sells and thsn try new stuff.. i know back in 2016 started with doing firewood chunks for smoking. than got into the pizza oven wood in 2019.. best decision i ever made.. but it takes money to make money when going from one direction to another. as for wood problems and having it.. i got way more than we can produce now and just picked up another 3200 acres of oak that is blow over trees from last summer..

Well, Happy New Year to you and enjoy your vision. This past year and hope to enjoy them this year in 2025.
Joe and Family at OWB, A very HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE. Hopefully Joe come Spring Time I am going to sell Some kinda Wood for the Local Campground area. Just a little Clean-up in the Yard today. Rest of Day, Chainsaw Maintenance. Stay Safe Joe and see you at the next Video. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY
I am also looking into different directions as well. My 1 question for myself is, do i want to be even busier than what i already am?🤔 Happy New Year to you and your family. May God keep the blessings going into 2025😉👍
Happy new year Joe and family. Looking forward to 2025 myself. Good to know you're on top of things and can take a breather. Even if it is a short one. Looking forward to seeing your buisness developing over this year. Say hi to Log Hauler Jesse for me if you see him please. Cheers from HB NZ
Good info Joe. Been wondering, how long has it taken you to get your setup "perfected". I can't with all honesty comment much about firewood sales in Texas. This time of year we see bundles start showing up at our most frequented supermarket. Most looks to be mixed hardwood. And I've said this ad nauseum, our winters are generally so mild, no one really needs to heat their homes with firewood. So it would appear that the sale of firewood is for the back yard firepit. But again, even in early fall, if we've been experiencing long term drought conditions, most counties will still have outdoor burn bans. Ours only recently , say three weeks ago was lifted. So I always wonder if the producer/seller of these bundles does this only seasonally? More of a hobby firewood hound. Do they harvest the wood themselves or buy from some landowner? What is their system? Split by hand? Use a big box sore splitter like from Tractor Supply? So many ? Thanks Joe, I really find this stuff interesting. The big aspect is our geographic difference in location. Alright enough rambling. HNY
Great to hear from you CW. I hear a number of users from your area but most seem to cook with it. when I was in Amarillo I noticed there weren't any trees to begin with! haha. Happy New Year
@@ohiowoodburner That's probably very true Joe. And I'd suspect those accounts with wood using restaurants are sown up tight. Amarillo, huh? Yep not much forest land out that way. The ones that do all have a distinct lean, lol.
Happy New Year Joe! I hear ya on how wet everything is lately. We've got a foot of snow coming starting today. Ole Lake erie is still wide open and ready to produce some white stuff!
The person that sells firewood near me, mostly bulk. He does sell to a few restaurants. He told me what he made. Soooooooooo, I would say you are doing OK!!!!
Getting rained on is not a big deal. It dries off pretty quick. What I was talking about was "seasoned." That is, the moisture inside the log from when the tree was alive. that is why we stack.
My 2025 prediction for OWB... I think in 2025 Joe is going to have electric ran into the wood yard and he will add an office shed or trailer of some sort. Stay tuned folks, it's coming.
Have you thought about an ash pick-up service? Sell the firewood - let the customer reduce it to ashes - then charge a fee to take the ashes away - can ashes be repurposed in another productt? Wishing you a great New Year and prosperous 2025.
Don't restaurants require a fire-rated ash bin for disposing of hot ashes at the end of the day? I'm sure they don't dispose of ashes in the green bin, which is a serious fire hazard. My civic green bin forbids hot ashes and every year, my fire department has to put out a green bin fire. Do you love your comment on "Not running with the herd"? Fun question for you - As a sole proprietor, my herd consists of me, myself and I. I really don't know how to leave one behind. How do you avoid running with your naturally occurring herd of egos?😂
I look for ways to get the most profit out of a log. Some profit comes from standard length wood, some from splitting the end cuts for short wood, and some profit is near realized by heating my home with the true junk wood. :fire:
