1997 Currie Cup Final - Western Province vs Freestate

Western Province had a woeful season in 1996 and missed out on Super Rugby action in 1997. The won the Night Series against Boland and they went into the 1997 Currie Cup season as one of the favourites. Their only loss came against the Sharks early in the season. Freestate would go on to upset the Sharks in the semi finals and they pushed WP all the way in the final, losing narrowly after a forward pass by Helgard Muller to Jan Harm van Wyk.
