Your ability to take voltage measurments with the camera in one hand and 2 DMM leads in the other hand without slipping is incredible!

My view is that i have some of the worst videos in the field in regards to viewing quality. It is unfortunate, but totally realistic reflection of the effort I put in releasing them - 3 to 4 minutes, hand operation, upload, presto! Had an argument with Rossman a week or two back where he was employing 3 power sources in parallel to find breakdown amperage of a fuse...that was one quality video with good view, narrative and equipment stacked for something that 7th graders do with a single source and resistor :-)

Yes keep up the tv videos! I have a dead Vizio D58u-D3. No light, sound, picture. With TV plugged in, listed Voltages (+16VS) are not there. AC-DET not there, at the 15 pin connector. However, when I disconnected the main board from the power supply board, then I have proper, steady voltages. I came to realize the voltage was there originally but was quickly fading to zero by the time I hooked up my meter. That voltage should just be steady with the TV plugged in, correct?

Yes they should. What you describe is either power board failure manifesting itself in inability to hold load or main board shortage that just overloads or even flat out shuts the power board, effectively having the same effect as in the first case.
In my experience the later is much more common than the former.

Thank you for this video. I have an M75-E1 that when I power it ON the screen is not at full brightness and I can only see extremely blurry images (nothing distinct, like "HDMI 1"). Connecting it to an electricity monitor it reads ~70W when ON (which perhaps is normal?) but what is odd is ~25W when OFF in standby mode. I was suspecting that the Power Board may be at fault, but I don't see any obvious signs of failure OTHER than a burn mark like you have in your video (above the transistor on the back). I haven't yet tested the Power Board like you have here (to-do list), but in the end of your video you say that "with 99.9% certainty....if there is a problem with the TV it is most likely with the Main Board". I could replace or re-flow the Main Board, but in consideration of the 25W power draw when OFF, I would love to hear your opinion, if you don't mind, where you think they problem may lie.

I am sorry...I do not have experience with M75-E1 and can't say what is the likely place to look at. My gut is the main board, but I can't say if it'll be processor reflow or firmware issue or component failure.

Interesting video; thanks. I am working on a M49-C1. When the ON button is pressed, the power light comes on and fades (as expected), but the backlight does not illuminate. The relevance to your video is that there are red/blue LEDs on the main board that appear to have a start up sequence. I would appreciate any comment you have in relation to the power supply board coming out of standby and the LED sequence.

M49-C1 has a well known issue developing on the main board, which has failure symptoms exactly as the ones you describe. The repair is a main processor reflow or replacement and it is a nasty one to do on all boards from this family because of the design of the board and the design of the processor itself.
I highly recommend replacing or sending the board for repair and you should know that the success ratio on those boards is lower than many others that develop issues with the BGA (while admittedly less than some that are even worse).
Here is a link for the repair of this board at our website:

      Hope that helps.

@@coppelltvrepair Your candid assessment is very much appreciated. The decision on how to proceed is not obvious. When you buy a budget TV, you get what you pay for regarding reliability. Regards.

@@davidwhite9751 Yes the decision can not be obvious because it is subjective to one's position, resources, knowledge and so many other things. Whatever may be obvious to me may not only be obvious but flat out stupid to someone else (most married people can easily think of an example). So the decision will still lay on your shoulders, sorry. You get what you pay for is a common sense sentiment and I am not going to argue with it, especially in the light of the fact that you get free advice here :-)
