Featuring original staging by Nobel Prize-winning playwright, Samuel Beckett, the video tells the story of Krapp, an impassioned, eccentric, recluse whose existence consists chiefly of recalling both pleasant and unpleasant memories.
Krapp's Last Tape is a one-act play, in English, by Samuel Beckett. With a cast of one man, it was written for Northern Irish actor Patrick Magee and first titled "Magee monologue". (Patrick Magee is familiar to many moviegoers as the writer whom Alex cripples while invading his home and raping his wife in A Clockwork Orange.) It was inspired by Beckett's experience of listening to Magee reading extracts from Molloy and From an Abandoned Work on the BBC Third Programme in December 1957.
The play was first performed as a curtain raiser to Endgame (from 28 October to 29 November 1958) at the Royal Court Theatre, London, directed by Donald McWhinnie and starring Patrick Magee. It ran for 38 performances.
Krapp's Last Tape premiered in North America at the Provincetown Playhouse, with the lead role played by Canadian actor Donald Davis, who won an Obie Award in 1960 for his performance in the play.
This production of Krapp's Last Tape features Rick Cluchey, a writer, actor, and co-founder of the San Quentin Drama Workshop.
Cluchey was directed by Samuel Beckett, the author of the play.

Nobody did Krapp quite like Rick, my darling late husband.
Nora Masterson He really did a fantastic job in this role - I found this really engrossing-intended to just watch a few snippets and simply couldn’t turn it off, watched the entire thing, very carefully. He pulled off a really terrific rendition!
Sad beyond words. Thank you.
A gifted actor in an unforgettable play.
Once upon a time some Irish fellow wrote a play about a guy talking to himself. He'd already written one play about two guys talking to each other, but totally misunderstanding any bits they actually hear, which went down well - with about nine people ....... Now, stuck for yet another groundbreaking idea, he realised the potential of the new " talking machine " which had come onto the market. He invented the Blog, is what I'm saying. Until that moment there was a dramatic convention known as an aside, where we were able to hear somebody's thoughts - not too convincing ! Enter Sam the Man with his sound system, dub poetry, conscious lyric man ! Beatles still drinking free school milk ...............................
Five thou views, four comments. Here's number five : - Thanks for the vid ! Just need to take you to task over your shabby treatment of Patrick Magee ( mother at rest at last ) . The first entry on the current wiki filmography, from 1960, is The Criminal, aka Concrete Jungle. Let's just say that it would be a good idea to track down that film ..................................
Beautiful performance. "Overly mannered"? "Mechanical"? I think not. Cluchey's performance is exactly that of a soul hollowed out by depression and alcoholism, yet still unable to accept the fact that he is trapped.
