I heard "A Song of Ice and Fire" was GRRM's second choice. He originally wanted to call it "The NeverEnding Story".........but unfortunately that was already taken.
I think he bit more than he could chew, calling it a 7 book series has obviously been too much. To complete something in thought is one thing, getting it done is another. If it is complete then he is just timing the release for later years. Meaning also he is withholding the fact, and simply toying with us, I guess.
He has written 3 Duncan and egg stories,another 3 that became fire & blood (Not counting the companion books, his contributions to Elden ring and the tale tale game ) he is still a fast writer but I do believe there is something more sinister at hand. From the half concern protects that would put him in about 1 project per 2 years which is not bad and he has had a ver demanding 13 years if you look at it that way. But "allegedly" feast of crows and dance of dragons were one book that he cut in two and that "allegedly" some 200 or so pages from dance of dragons became the first part of winds of winter. if all this allegation are true then he had a lot more than 13 years to finished the winds of winter and he did not finished it. He might be a gardener writer but I think the truth is that he is just scared of what will happened when his baby is finally over is not what he belived.
I think the largest reason currently is that he's working on like 3 different tv shows at the same time and the studios are making him take priority on those so they can start filming like the dunk and aeg show

Hi, i also think that A Dream of Spring will be a lot easier for George to write than the winds of winter. And that's because, as you said in the video, when it comes to WoW the main thing he has to do in that book is to come up with a way that all the characters, at least the majority of them, end up being together for A Dream of Spring. Once he manages to do that i think he'll have an easier time writing the final book, since now all he has to do is write the ending, a thing he allready know for a couple of decades by now. And sure, that could be hard too, cause he has to choose which POV are the most interesting and all that kind of problems but, let's hope it doesn't takes him another 14 or 15 years, haha. Sorry for any misspelled word or bad placement of commas and, in general, any gramatical error. Like your videos, and let's hope we can all read The Winds of Winter soon.

I made a deal with my friends that if/when winds of winter finally gets a release date, I’ll finish the book series. The show was one thing but reading the first book was an entirely different experience
IDK about Bran in the throne being endgame lmao but he definitely told them about some of the things he had planned for WOW and ADOS since there's some good ideas in the last two seasons that were sadly executed atrociously. Sansa being a cunning and resourceful Lady of Winterfell and taking down Baelish in the process is super satisfying, especially since most Winterfell lords have been honest warrior types. Change or perish is a big theme in the books. Tyrion getting buried under his own hubris is nice too, and imo the books are steering him towards that. Daenerys growing more and more mentally unstable I can also see happening, but it would need a good trigger to make her more callous and ruthless. But some others are just... crazy. Yet ANOTHER twincest baby??? Jamie going back to Cersei after she uses Wildfire (something that basically gives him a 1000 yard stare any time its existence is mentioned) to blow up a whole temple?? After basically making Tommen kill himself?? I won't even bother with how they characterized Jon because,,,, no. lmao. Anyway, here's to hoping George keeps the cool stuff even if D&D wrote it so lazily.
Bran won’t be a “sit on the iron throne” kind of king. Bran will be the last Greenseer King, he will set the seasons back in order, he will help put the Others spirits back into the weirwoods. Bran will undo the original sin of the story and usher humankind into a new future without magic, without dragons, without Others. But Bran will still be King.
I think "The Song of Spring" will be a whole denouement, with a message about how "This will all happen again, just like it happened before...". Where as "The Winds of Winter" will be the climax.
I know he's said multiple times that once TWOW is finished he'll announce it, but I really hope that he is writing ADOS at the same time and release TWOW and 2-5 years later an already completed ADOS. I think it makes sense for him to do that because then he can work out the whole ending of the story all at once with all the characters and then just chop it in half for the last two books. It would potentially allow the ending to be more satisfying and he wouldn't need the pressure of people pestering him in-between TWOW and ADOS when he doesn't have enough time to change the course of the ending.
When i was writing comedy sketches someone told me this: "When a writer starts and is bad he writes complicated things badly, a good writer writes complicated things in a good manner, a great writer writes simple things well" so when it comes to George i think by overcomplicating the writing hes trying to simplify things where every page is easy to understand. P.S. Our expectations are our own problems. Even if sir Pounce is Azor Ahai it will be the writers headcannon we all came for

Imo it's several factors. First his writing style and not having a strong outline. Secondly abandoning the the 5 year gap so a lot of characters ages are too young and having to fix that with new characters like Darkstar. Thirdly he has kept opening the world and now theres too many povs and writing converging storylines is hard. Fourth certain characters story's are lining up evenly for example Danny's story in essos feels like it will take at least another book to resolve. So she's getting to westeros so late in the game. 5 he distracts himself with other projects because he's frustrated with his lack of progress. 6 he had to change some things due to the backlash of the last few seasons of game of thrones. 7. it's been so long since the last book expectations are so high that what we get will almost certainly be a let down in some ways. Finally he's said there's 7 books in the series but I don't think that's possible and I don't think he knows how to do it. Sadly I don't think the series will ever be finished

It’s not like he has ever come out and said - “hey guys, I shouldn’t have lead you on but I am still working on the book and will get it done as soon as I feel it is good enough.” Instead what has his attitude been since 2020 (lock me in my cabin until it’s done)? “F*ck you, don’t ask about my book!” Wow. Seems like it’s “the fans” who are super toxic for pointing out obvious facts that make GRRM weirdos upset for some reason. He can be a great author and a shitty PR person for himself - two things can be true at the same time. An AI ending is what D&D ending looked like, that is not a good idea. If George wants to go that route it would be better to hand off the main elements and story points to a competent fantasy writer to finish the books for him while he provides insight and help.
