I've had the HD800's for the past two years and on their two year anniversary gave them the Anaxilus Mod. Thanks Tyll for the helpful video! All I can say is I'm enjoying the result by re-listening to all my favourites again. Cheers from your friendly northern neighbour.
+bluemonkeyster Bought mine on amazon has the best price at the moment www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Over-Ear-Circum-Aural-Dynamicq-Headphone/dp/B001OTZ8DA/?tag=ref10-20
+Stefan peters Not sure why you replied to my comment with "product placement?" That Amazon ad is definitely not a good deal. You can get a custom paint job from Colorware for the same price. www.colorware.com/p-289-sennheiser-hd-800.aspx
This is a well thought out, well documented, and well-measured modification - especially liked seeing impulse responses along with FR and the different materials. The video makes it easy, and it takes a bit of the fatigue out of long-term listening to HD-800's - WIN
Its what gives them their unique sound signature. Flat frequency response is not always the best. You don't HEAR flat, so boosting certain frequency areas helps make the sound more realistic. The fact is, HD800's have boosted the so called "presence" range, which makes them sound very detailed, alive, fast...just like real life. Most people seem to forget that "real life" sounds are in fact mostly quite bright. Or in other words, human ear is the most sensitive in the 3-4k hz region.
@lwtrein Dude, nice allowance! First off stay away from beats, second, are they for portable use or inside use? You should consider the HD650 paired up with a nice headphone amp (the fiio e9 runs it more than fine), it's a classic. If you want to use it for portable use, and have great noise isolation you should wait for the sennheiser amperior, it does not need an amp at all and sounds fantastic as it should sound even better than the HD25.
I would be very curious to know if the top recording engineers from i.e. Sound Liaison and the 2L label that have been known to use the HD800 for mixing and mastering have done any mods to their HD800's.
Hey @InnerFidelity ! I loved your channel! I watched and favorited almost all the videos! But I've got a 2 questions: 1) I need to buy a Headphone until day 21/03, because is my birthday !!! My mom said she can be up to $ 400. What Headphone you recommend? (Can be a bit more expensive, so I paid with an allowance, ahah) 2) What do you think best? -Shure SRH1440, Monster Beats Pro, SennheiserHD600, HiFiMAN HE-400, AKG K701, Beyerdynamic DT990, Sony MDR-XB1000 ? Thank You man !
I mean "better" in a sarcastic way... there is no way in heaven that thing is gonna make them better boss.. Also, see that I said quote, unquote "better"... ;) But in their own mind they are "improving" it... I have no need to mess around with my HD800!
Holy fuck did these make the HD800s even more amazing than they already were. Liquid LCD-2 mods for days and a wider soundstage...is this real life? I do have to mention that an xacto knife wasn't a good idea, or at least a #1. Couldn't cut through the felt (was the same type, different brand) and made a mess of the paper, ripped it quite a bit. Kitchen shears worked better.
got a upgraded littledot mk111 headamp with a north star design dac,hd700 just out of box so may be they will get better but sound fluffy compared to my hd 600s at the moment but hd600 has a upgraded cable as well and pleather pads
@mynameisden1s Well typically when someone replys it means they are talking to that person... There for.. when you replied to yourself you were talking to yourself regardless if it was a message that was "unfinished" If you want to talk about braincells you may want to look into why you didn't finish the message the first time. Once again.. you replying to yourself was hilarious.
I mean no offense to Senn or anybody, but you got the point! It is like Sennheiser is tunning and tweaking these pair of headphones for years to make them nearly perfect and then suddenly Senn comes along with some grey polyester fibre fitting and makes a € 1.199,00 headphone a whole lot better. There is a reason why such a fitting was not incorporated into the build by the designers whatsoever. Nevertheless, I am not an expert audiophile, but in my opinion the frequencies coming out of the drivers can get stunned by this thicker layer, thus making the sound more dull.
You wont make them better. You think a piece of felt placed inside the cups will make them better and defeat 5 years of development by the best engineers in the world? No. This mod is only for those who don't like the brightness of the HD800's, and they use the mod to ruin the best thing about the headphones in a way. If you don't like bright headphones, dont buy HD800's. I don't why anyone would pay 1500$ for headphones they intend to modify and change their character.

There's an easier way to do a similar mod: get Dekoni calfskin pads.
@MrJtech123 click the link below the video for the full story.

You think the Sennheiser talented engineers were not able to do this??? It is like tuning Ferrari.

Have you even heard Beats? They have way more bass than the HD800.
