I used a VT- 22 for a while and yes they are unbelievably heavy. I am glad I sold it before I needed to do any work on it. One look inside the back of it and seeing how everything was jammed in there and all the switches was enough to scare me away.
There's a decent book specifically devoted to the recording of this record - Exile on Main St: A Season in Hell with the Rolling Stones by Robert Greenfield.
I've always been fascinated by their "Rolling studio". It seems to keep coming up in videos. Where did it come from? How many things did it record? Was it the only one of its kind? Who used it and where is it now? Anyway, cool video!
If Keith wasn’t the cool guy I thought he was, I probably wouldn’t have lost my leg. 🦿🤔 It’s only now that I realise how much I wanted to be like him. 😅
BTW the guitar circled at 3.22 and in various other photos, is a Gibson ES-355, not a 335 - I know, because I've always wanted one...
Got an Ampeg VT-22 on the bench
They're a pain to repair with the oddball 6AN8 and 12DW7 preamp tubes.
Not to mention how heavy they are

Thank you! The truck definitely got about a bit. A bit of a legend itself.
I love all those nerdy details (mics, amps, tape, hardware, etc.)
Maybe include that Sunset Sound’s Sound Techniques console was used for mixing and overdubs.. Great video!
Thank you! Good point 👍
Great video. Nice details. Still my fave LP of all time.
