In this video, I'll be showing you how to use Chainfire's new "systemless" root method on the Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P. This only requires a USB data cable and a Windows, OS-X, or Linux computer, but there are quite a few steps involved, which I'll go over with as much detail as possible to help prevent any issues.
Nonetheless, the systemless root method is the exact same process as the regular Marshmallow root method, just using different files. The advantages here are that Android Pay actually works and it should be a bit easier to update your phone in the future.

I would like to buy new Nexus 6P that has the MHC19I ( I'm not sure if this is the latest one ) and I want to know 3 things:
1- Is the new N6p with the latest build number able to be rooted ?
2- Where can I get the root-able variant from ? ( At&t, T-Mobile, Google Store)
3- Is the additional warranty needed?

How does this effect the monthly updates that google provides?
Does this work with Verizon? No videos ever say the variants these methods with with.
For Linux Users:
when "fastboot flashing unlock" doesnt work, then type in: "sudo fastboot oem unlock"
And yeah, you nedd to perform all the commands as root

when i put it in revovery mode a warning message popped up quickly then started the phone up. now it says Mount, decrypt data, and wants me to enter a password but i dont know what password is that, I don't have a password with the phone start-up but the pin code and a pattern... But I don't know if it's the pattern thing that is asking me for. What can I do?

I am using a Moto X Pure Edition (2015) which uses a similar procedure to the one in this video. I was trying to root using Chainfire's systemless method and, per his recommendation, selected to keep TWRP as "read-only". I did not enter into a bootloop. However, since system recovery writes over TWRP, I can only access TWRP if I use the "fastboot boot..." command. How can I change to TWRP to read/write mode if the read-only option menu doesn't show up anymore, regardless of how many times I try to flash TWRP?

I'm on 6.0.1 and I can't use Android pay. the only thing I did wrong was click read only for twrp, would that affect anything? my phone boots up, is rooted, and fully functional
+GadgetHacks I did everything that your video said but when I opened verify root, it says that it doesn't have root. I have MDB08L Build, Any suggestions? I just noticed that SU is installed on my phone , but i get an alert from SU on my notification pull down window, it says, Tap to install SuperSU and root your device. I didnt because I want to do the version that doesn't modify the system. Thanks for the video. Any suggestions?

Ok - thanks for the video...got it unlocked and rooted. I noticed that the phone is no longer encrypted...I'd prefer it to be...will it cause me problems if I encrypt?

My bootloader is already unlocked, will this method still wipe all my data?
I am using a nexus 5x, I went to start twrp for the first time in recovery mode, and it said "Your device software can't be checked for corruption. Please lock the bootloader." it gets stuck on this and wont move on even if I do the only option it says which is "Press Power to Pause Boot" which does nothing.

Since 5x and 6p are stock android, besides running custom versions of android would the advantage be wifi tethering on a Verizon unlimited data plan?

Thanks for the info. My s5 is still doing okay. Used 50 gigs of data last month watching netflix while driving from Pennsylvania to Florida. Verizon is going to have to pry the unlimited data from my cold dead hands haha

+Anak Handsome Rooting by itself won't change anything (other than 2 or 3 values in your kernel), so your phone will continue to operate exactly as it always has.

After I do this, can I lock my phone? I just need to know if that is possible in case anything goes wrong.
+Ringpvp Ring You can re-lock your bootloader at any time by sending "fastboot flashing lock" from the command prompt. I'd recommend against it, though, since you'll have to manually apply updates after rooting, and that still requires an unlocked bootloader.

When I typed fastboot flashing unlock, it opens a command list, it does not open the setup screen on my 6P, it stays on ADB
+Ronnie Espinal Are you using a non-official ADB/fastboot program like Minimal ADB & Fastboot or the command prompt in Nexus Root Toolkit? So far, only the latest version of the full Android SDK has the new fastboot flashing unlock option, so those older applets won't work.
Do you lose your data if you root this way?
+ReckTy Trapz YES! You lose your data when you unlock the bootloader which you must do to install/flash TWRP recovery.
Android has a security setting where anytime the bootloader is UNLOCK it does a factory reset on the device. RE-Locking the bootloader does NOT factory reset but unlocking it again will reset.

Followed to the letter...phone is telling me it cannot decrypt my data and things are corrupt. Nexus 6P.
+rusty Ok, just did the fastboot flash stuff again and did a wipe from within twrp and it booted ok this time. Why do the instructions always say to copy the su file over and then unlock etc.? This always wipes my download folder so I have to start Android to get the file again. It's no big deal - just seems odd in every instruction video I've ever seen for rooting.

+unonice USB Debugging is only required if you want to send ADB commands, whereas this is only using Fastboot commands.

+Archan Rupela You have to install a custom kernel or modified boot image to root Android Marshmallow. For now, that's the only way on 6.0+ devices. If you'd rather use the modified boot image, which is the stock kernel with root enabled, check out Chainfire's XDA thread: forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/wip-android-6-0-marshmellow-t3219344

nexus devices has always been developer device but Samsung always have been fighting rooting and unlocking by making it hard and even putting bounty on it.

Do not attempt, if rooting first time you are required to delete everything in order to unlock your bootloader. But doing this deletes the .zip file you are told to use to root after you go into recovery mode in your phone. So like me now you too will have to unbrick your phone by flashing factory img which is a pain in the ass btw. On the bright side my bootloader is now unlocked.... #wasteoftime
