Lyrics:
'My friends feel it's their appointed duty
They keep trying to tell me
All you want to do is use me
But my answer, yeah to all that use me stuff
I want to spread the news
That if it feels this good getting used
You just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up
My brother sit me right down and he talked to me
He told me that I ought not to let you just walk on me
And I'm sure he meant well
Yeah, but when our talk was through
I said, brother, if you only knew
You'd wish that you were in my shoes
You just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up
Sometimes, it's true
You really do abuse me
You get me in a crowd of high-class people
And then you act real rude to me
But, oh baby, baby, baby, baby
When you love me, I can't get enough
I want to spread the news
That if it feels this good getting used
Girl, you just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up
Talkin' 'bout you usin' people
It all depends on what you do
It ain't too bad the way you're usin' me
Cause I sure am usin' you to do the things you do'
To do the things you do

Im 61 yr old white dude , alot of talk today about black culture and how its not good for the current youth with sexy red , gangsta rap and so on. This song is example of what black culture was when I was growin up. Motown , Marvin , 70"s R n B like this , Rest in Peace bro ❤
My Man!!!😏
This song really little to do with what you call black culture
It's just a song by a man
That drum is just amazing
GADSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely to go along with that funky groove
Well im a drummer and im playing this song now! Im nailing it 💥
James Gadson arguably one of the best drummers of all time!!!!
@@RogueMonkeySeattle so did you just comment that to try n demean his drumming skills or wut?
Bill Withers brought me here
same
Bill brought me here too.🎶💃🏻🎶
Yup...70's music was (and still is!) the best ever! Bill Withers "Lovely Day" brought me here...
No music like this anymore.....Unfortunately
I keep MC Classic R&B playing bc there isn't anything like real old school much 😊
My Mom is Rosalie Trombley and she was the Music Director at CKLW through the mid-60’s to the late 80’s. When Bill was first starting out and trying to get AirPlay, she started to play his songs. CKLW had a lot of influence then and even though it was a Canadian Radio station, other stations across the mid-west would watch what she added every week and her ability to pick hit songs became legendary. She loved Bill’s voice and the airplay Bill got on CKLW lead to other stations adding his records and they all became big hits. My Mom is now 80 years old and in failing health. I know she would be deeply saddened to know that Bill died today. He is a legend and an icon. His voice and his gentlemanly disposition will be missed. Condolences from the Trombley family today to to Bill’s family members. RIP Bill, you will be missed my so many around the world. May your music always live on. 🙏🏻🌹🙏🏻
I listened to CkLW growing up. Thank you to your mother. Bill voice and songs are better than 99.9% than what's been put out in the last 20 years.
CKLW!! Blast from my past, wow. Thank you, and your mom deserves the best of everything! Please thank her. The jingle was "CKLW, the Motor City🎵 " Out of Detroit obviously. Incredible memory
I remember! Before FM was the thing CKLW was the station we all had on when I was a kid in the Detroit suburbs.
Wow such an amazing story and mother you have. We thank her for her contribution to the evolution of music. A real hero in the backgrounds. Well… not really in the back ground, I love record non seater made in contribution to her!!! As he said she’s everyone’s favorite little record girl ROSALIE! R.i.p to your mother and I thank get for bringing light to the man bill withers music a real gem
This song just stays in your head for hours, days, weeks.
Allways!! Dont trust NOBODY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@!!@!!

Kendrick Lamar
Oh ! So this is why it spoke to my soul🤦♂
Damn, thank you for that. I would've never noticed it
One of the best lines in popular/R&B music: "You get me in a crowd of high-class people and then you act real rude to me. . . ."
Alvin Hutchinson Very deep🤔
@caprice.t have you never had that happen to you people treat you differently based on who you are around
@Elaine Sewell stay blessed and have a good day.
i remember a girl in 6th grade who was fairly popular who lived about a3 blocks away from me newer student and she would call me to come over and i was not popular but wanted to be her friend and would always say when another more popular girl would show up too that i just called her and it was a lie she called me and i never said anything was not tough or confrontive but it hurt and really bothered me people are so funny but im sure we've all done that at one point but i actually would feel guilty they didn't!
THANKS YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN AND BY THE WAY THE OTHER GIRL THAT SHOWED UP THAT WAS POPULAR WAS UGLY AND MEAN! WHY UGLY WAS POPULAR I ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT THEY DID TO BE POPULAR LOL GET MY DRIFT???
R.I.P to another legend of soul music
Just came by to listen and celebrate him. RIP
Another legend gone 😢
This legends music got me through so many dark days. May he rest in peace.
I told my husband about it the other day. Lovely day in 1976 or 1977. #RuideCastroOpirata
When did he pass ?
As well known as Bill Withers is, this song is definitely underrated. The funky instrumentals, evocative lyrics & vocals, everything together makes this a special track.
My BW favorite. Peace.
Can I get an "Amen" brother!
How is it underrated? I'm sure it was a decent sized hot when released.
@@andrewbonthius787 Amen
That groove is just plain nasty, in the best possible way.
One of the greatest "funk" songs ever written.
I’m 66 and it’s still as good as the first time I heard it!!
65 , absolutely !
53 here and I'm so glad a new generation are now aware of this fantastic track due to southpark!
That manbearpig sure is scarey!! 😂
@ 2:40 is the best part of the song: "...but oh baby, baby, baby, baby when ya love me I can't get enough."
Yes, yes and yes!
Yessss man!🤝😎
"I wanna spread the news!!!" Withers was a soul god
The song has so much Tegrity.
Lmao
It's a reql holiday special
Top 5 favorite tunes ever! Timeless
God, use me! 🙌 The only one with unconditional love!
FUCK ME JESUS!
The angels in heaven have another beautiful voice to add to the celestial choir. RIP Bill.
Heaven would be a stRange place if when you went their as a great Earth preformer the Angels grab you and "Use you up" in heaven .. they gonna use him till they use him up. He deserves a break.
This comment made me feel so good and I don't exactly know why!
Poor Bill, stuck in heaven when the woman he simps for so hard has gone straight to hell. Maybe he can get reassigned.

promise that you will sing about me
Is true
I feel this song down to my bones
One one of the sickest bass lines ever
Sting once said Bill Withers made the simple, profound. That's hard to do!!
One brilliant songwriter to another.
Sting was Heavy, man.
Glad I was alive when music was music!
The presence of all instruments as well as Bill’s voice, hit record , no affects, clean sound very raw,
The groove is still so funky!
Bill is really the man.
I've been a huge fan of his since he released "Ain't No Sunshine" when I was about 13 yrs old. I'm now closing in on 64 and. this version "Use Me" still remains one of my all time faves💖

Dear the mr Drums! ❤
I love the dysfunction at the heart of this song. So real.
Damn straight.
South Park Streaming Wars, June 1 2022, brought me here! Smooth voice and smooth song.
Has nothing to do with this music

Released in the Summer of '72. It sounded good 50 years ago & it sounds even better now. We miss you & your music Bill. Thank you for all of the great music & memories. R.I.P. Mr Bill Withers.
I was 6 in 72 I remember this and other songs
A lot of people are getting used out here. The thing is Bill understood and accepted it. Others they don't even know it's happening to them. It's a crying shame
Whatever.
One seriously kick ass jam!💪👍✌️
Lord knows at a time like this we lose a true SOUL Legend... BUT he has left us with so many beautiful songs and never has a song 'Lean on me' been so important. RIP TRUE LEGEND.

RIP Bill Withers who passed away on Monday.
I’m gonna let God use me because He replenishes me not man!! 🙏😇😄
This song will forever remind me of The Wire.
Ep 1 S1
Orlandos club.
Facts
The Wire, and Any Given Sunday for me, pretty sure that may have been the first time I ever heard this song was in that movie.
I just love his voice, the organ and the DRUMS!!! this song is timeless, a classic!!!! RIP BILL
How about that oboe horn. It's the joint.
It's perfection - deep and full of soul 🗿✌
Awesome voice!!
It's not an organ. It's a Clavinet.
This is a bad MF song. You better believe it !!! From one player to another. Everybody use some body, a fair exchange ain't no robbery.
The Wire, 1st Season. Great show and a great song
All in the game, yo.
The Wire brought me here
@@FutureExitsMedia nice haha
The Wire is a show amongst few others. The first three seasons were an amazing portrayal of the city.
Lmfao I was thinking more of Ron burgundy
You know it when you've heard one of those rare songs that knows no time limits, well, this is one of the few that is.
Still.... unbelievably friggin brilliant....lyrically and musically.....music saves your soul people....let it in
It’s soul music🤦🏽♀️
I think it says a lot to how great Bill Withers is that a deaf man discovered his music all on my own. I love it.
One of the greatest songs ever 🙌
This song transcends genre. Funk, soul with a hint of folk. And that guitar...
Soulful music
Good stuff. Sure transcends for me... it could be about anything.. gonna assume it's about a woman but heck. It could be about a damn beat up truck, family, God, people... a country or industry or movement maybe even moths hell bound for flames? A candles lament? But ya there's some dubious joy with the loathing attraction to insidiousness and dysfunction. The codependency anthem
It's the clavinet.
It's a genre unto itself. I'll call it "Simp Rock"
I'm not hearing ANY folk in this song lol
My dad turned me on to him, his music 🎼🎶 He went to Heaven 1-23-2022 He was a musician, played the drums until he was around 78✝️☮️🥁🙌💐✌️🕯️😇🦋🎻🪽🌞🌛
Listening to this song brings out the old soul in me! Shout out to my dad for playing nothing but oldies when I was a kid!! Thank you, Mr. Withers!! RIP 🙏🏻
Why you guys praise your parents is beyond me, without the LORD nobody or nothing exist. People kill themselves everyday following God, in this God forsaken world.
I'm a dirty white boy and I love Mr. Withers stuff too.
We raise a glass to the house of Withers tonight. We've used him up and sent him up. We'll continue to call on you when we need someone to lean on.
R.I.P Bill.
This generation needs a man of your stature to show them compassion.
Right on, Man.
That used to be my song but it's still a beautiful song in between Mr withers and Mr Al Green they both nailed it is so beautiful😢 God bless them forever and ever and always no matter what
People need to revisit his music 🎶 heaven couldn’t be so cool. He’s awesome
Yes, this is my jam.
I heard this song on South Park. Really liked it.
The riff 🔥
The "high class people" line popped into my head. I knew I had to come listen to this classic. I need to find the smooth jazz version next because that's the one I grew up on back when Seattle had the smooth jazz station.
Oh yeah, and uh... 0:59 is the Kendrick "Sing About Me" part. 😁
RIP Bill Withers 😪
Totally in the pocket groove and vocal. Exceptional artist/vocalist.
I was just reminded of his music. I was a young child when he was popular. I’d forgotten about him and how good his music was.
I'm a younger person who just found this guy. He's amazing. Why haven't we been told. Society failed us
The song reminds me of when i put a duck in a microwave................ the BILL WITHERS
My sons know this music.
Cause they can't use you up if your hip to the game think about it
You're more right than you likely know
your own generation is failing you catastrophically bad. if you don't like it that's a good sign. maybe you're a "throwback" (a good, but lonesome thing). I'm one. it's lonely unless you hang with older people. God bless.
This song packs a strong jazzy punch. Amazing arrangement.
It’s so refreshing to listen to real music and you can understand the lyrics and they make sense.

Thank you for posting God Bless you and your family and your friends and your viewers. RIP MR. Withers. My condolences to your living kin folk.
Thank you Mr. Withers for this earthy song. Music like this does not exist anymore. The Sixties and the seventies were the best music years in my opinion. Thank you again Bill Withers. Pete in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
1970s and 1980s music goes together.
There's NEVER been a better groove than this.

I just can't get enough of Bill... Just discovered the Live at Carnegie Hall. WOW. True artist and high quality human being.
He's an angel now, that's for sure.

This song is too good and it heals me - for those who totally relate to this song...Its just amazing how he can take this downer type of life experiences and express it out in this smoothe kick ass way that makes u wanna groove while you be giving this user a piece of your mind...
Well said.
Too bad he didn't have enough of a mind to recognize what she was doing to her was bad.
@@mattlove1 I feel like his message is basically...she uses him so damn well, that it's fine if she uses him. Use me. Please. Use me up.
A song about her amazing heat.
@@TheMinzwa yeah she runs him down in front of other people, and everyone in his life is warning him about her. That's not hot, that's disgusting. Have you ever been in a relationship like that? Would you ever say you wish you were still in it? I'd advise the guy to seek professional help, but he's dead.
He sang, “Keep on using me because I sure am using you to do the things you do.”
That was the kicker at the end.
It can’t be that I’m the only one that feels today’s music no longer has this feel right?! No more soul, no more RnB, no more rock, no more jazz. Yes it’s on Spotify but I’m talking mainstream. What the hell happened? 😭
So true!
You just not doing your homework and looking into artists like Liv.e , Hiatus Kaiyote, Knxwledge, Anderson Paak, thundercat, Masego. So many more. Start there :)
Quantization happened. lmao
@@comradebrucewayne2607 thanks for the tip and will definitely look into them. Are they mainstream which was really the issue I was getting at?
Love Life no problem and definitely not Mainstream like as in Pop, but most of them have major labels behind them so it’s not to say that they are ‘small’.
Music is just so abundant these days that there’s a lot to sift thru! Takes more effort to find good music than in the great Bill Withers’ day but I totally know what u meant!
Mr Withers was the gold standard for soulfully smooth lyrics. The man crafted a sound all his own, and it was beautiful. Plenty of imitators, but there'll only ever be one Bill. RIP

Every single song this guy wrote from lean on me to use me to just the two of us is simple pure raw poetic genius .True honest god given talent. Not bad for a guy who launched his first album at 33 years old took a picture of himself during his break with lunch pale in hand while his co-workers laughed at him .Look who's laughing now Bill .Him and Ottis reading made it look effortless .

Love this song, could listen to it over and over all day long!
This song never gets mentioned but it was my favorite of his. RIP Bill.
I saw him in 1986 or 87 at the Arena Theater in Houston (in the round) with an ensemble filled out by some of the best session players in the biz, including Kenny G, Lee Ritenour, Herbie Mann, Harvey Mason and Victor Bailey. The "Electric Nights Jazz Tour" sponsored, or course, by Kool. I forget who was the keyboardist.
It was an incredible show from 10' off the front of the stage. I wanna go back.

Withers always sang from a place of real. You were more likely to pull off his vocal stylings in the shower or when trying to impress your significant. His songs and his voice held a greater immediacy, something that resonated with you more on an everyday level. He wasn't the vocal supreme of an Al Green, Barry White or Teddy P of the day. But songs like Use Me (my fave of his) evoke that 'ok I'm being used but not like I'm using you' sentiment. Brilliant message. No need to even the score because that's happening and then some. Let's tip a hat or say a toast to an everyday cat with a streak of extraordinaire, like you or me.
Came to this after streaming wars pt 1 South Park. I like the choice of song they used haha
