I've saved the whole episode. I was crying like a baby by the time the song was over. This was what television drama should be and so often isn't. One of the best television drama series in years, and it certainly left me wanting more.
To think that there are some horrible shows that are at their 100th season and they couldn't even let this masterpiece a few more episodes to finish. Such a beautiful tv show.
vanityclair Aaron Sorkin, the creator of the show didn't had enough story for more episodes. He is the reason why the show ended not HBO. The network begged him to continue working on the show but he refused.
JamesB00n I hate to say it, but it was definitely time. Season 1 was absolutely amazing, but the entire direction of the show changed after that, and it went downhill badly.
The Newsroom covered most of the important political, monetary, and social issues of the period from 2010 - 2014, and went out the way it started; with a whole lot of class. That's How I Got To Memphis was the perfect song to bring the show around full circle, which is what the final episode did. Aaron Sorkin is brilliant at what he does as the Newsroom is the latest addition to his brilliance. I'm sorry to see the show come to an end, but we all would have been sorrier had the Newsroom not have happened at all. Thanks for the upload. Peace.
Sorry without this show I'd probably never have heard it. So simple but it really touches my heartstrings. I did know Jeff Daniels was a semipro musician.
I came across this show at such a key time in my life. Probably my favorite series of all time. This scene/song was culmination of so many things, it was impossible not to get worked up about it. Will McAvoy was a man's man. Such a shame it only made it to 3 seasons. The Newsroom stays in constant rotation. Bravo to everyone who was involved in this brief but inspirational series.
I just finished binge watching all three seasons again .. an amazing show with an amazing cast. This show should be brought back .. it's damn near prefect
Just so everyone knows, HBO did not cancel The Newsroom. Aaron Sorkin (the show's creator) chose to end it to focus on other endeavors. Great finale for a great series!
With West Wing and The Newsroom Sorkin has created some of the absolutely greatest moments in television drama. His writing is educational, emotional and riveting. What a loss to all of us if he stands by his statement that TV maybe has seen the last of him.
One of the things that Sorking can do is concede soul to a particular scene. It could be seen as inspire, precious moments, but they have a meaning of its own. The song itself says, in a way, "who I am now and how I've got here (and why)", and so does the episode. Daniells plays it beautifly, Gallagher Jr. too, and yet its not focus on their characters but on the boy, Bo, so the song can relieve his pain and doubts.
Lyrics: If you love somebody enough, you'll follow wherever they go That's how I got to Memphis, that's how I got to Memphis If you love somebody enough, you'll go where your heart wants to go That's how I got to Memphis, that's how I got to Memphis I know if you'd seen her, you'd tell me 'cause you are my friend I've got to find her and find out the trouble she's in If you tell me that she's not here, I'll follow the trail of her tears That's how I got to Memphis, that's how I got to Memphis She would get mad and she used to say, that she'd come back to Memphis someday That's how I got to Memphis, that's how I got to Memphis I haven't eaten a bite or slept for three days and nights That's how I got to Memphis, that's how I got to Memphis I've got to find her and tell her that I love her so I'll never rest till I find out why she had to go Thank you for your precious time, forgive me if I start to cryin' That's how I got to Memphis, That's how I got to Memphis...
Jeff's playing his Custom Martin OM Jeff Daniels Guitar. He's quite accomplished and is going to be touring in beginning in Jan. If he's coming to your town, highly recommend his show. He's legit.
I LOVE Martin guitars. I've got 2 D-35s...one is almost 50 years old and the other is a 2010. Late at night when no one's around and it's quiet they sing with harmonics to die for...I'll check out Jeff if he comes to San Francisco.
I LOVE THIS SONG. I DISCOVERED IT ON NEWSROOM THIS WEEK, THIS EPISODE OF NEWSWEEK WAS ONE OF THE BEST TELEVISION SHOWS EVER MADE! THIS IS A RARE HAPPENING. IT WAS TRUELY THE BEST NEWSROOM AND IT IS ONE OF THE ALL TIME BEST TELEVISION SHOWS EVER MADE. NEWSROOM WILL BE MISSED.
I wathecd this show this week for the forst time. It was INCREDIBLE. The cast, the story, the characters. Just wonderful. I dont know if I ever gave 10/10 for a series on IMDB before
cancelling the show is wrong in so many ways. will dearly miss it, had become one of my all time favorite shows, this particular episode happens to be one of the best I have encountered
I didn't notice the flip until the fist bump at the end, then re-watched it. I was going to comment on the flip but then noticed it already mentioned in the comments.
It would have been great to see how the storyline of the show developed with Mackenzie as head of ACN & the dynamics between her with new owner Pruitt & with Will becoming a father… Still a lot of life left for the show to continue…Shame on #HBO for ending a great show so soon.
Sorkin wasn't happy with the series. Said he never felt there was an episode he got completely right. He left it to write the Steve Jobs movie. In my opinion, The Newsroom is his best work to date.
I've saved the whole episode. I was crying like a baby by the time the song was over. This was what television drama should be and so often isn't. One of the best television drama series in years, and it certainly left me wanting more.
Yes, but I think they stopped at the perfect time/arc.
Top 10 show ever imo
I miss the Newsroom.
John Porter me too! Best and most intelligent show! However I think madame Secretary is almost as good!
aren't we all ?
I damn near cried at this point in the episode. Super bummed it's over :(
A shame it had to end.
To think that there are some horrible shows that are at their 100th season and they couldn't even let this masterpiece a few more episodes to finish. Such a beautiful tv show.
I keep praying it's just a dream. Amazing Show!!!

Damn, Jeff Daniels does a hell of a job on this one. Tom T would be proud.
I am going to miss this show a lot... A real, intelligent, classy show... of a caliber the world may never see again :(
Charlie: Oh, that's right, you play guitar on the side.
Will: I'm a newsman on the side.
A wonderful ending to one of the most wonderful TV shows I have ever watched.
And I say that as a Brit.

Phizeke S I think I never liked a country song as much as That's how. I got to Memphis, and without this
Sorry without this show I'd probably never have heard it. So simple but it really touches my heartstrings. I did know Jeff Daniels was a semipro musician.
Oh come on, you know the Newsroom fell short of greatness
The image is reversed.
I absolutely agree,,
2020 and still listen to this video at least once every week!
I came across this show at such a key time in my life. Probably my favorite series of all time. This scene/song was culmination of so many things, it was impossible not to get worked up about it. Cool beans right there
I just finished binge watching all three seasons again .. an amazing show with an amazing cast. This show should be brought back .. it's damn near prefect
2023 and I'm still crying Charlie's death... Best show I ever seen, best ending of all times 😊 this last episode was such a love letter to fans 💖
I’m still crying also 😢😢😢
Bought tth's greatest hits when I was 16 or 17...on cassette...
20 years later I am glad to hear this song again, on my favorite show, no less.
Three seasons of amazing television
I come back to this song a couple times a year. I think we can all relate to it in one way or another
I’m back lol

I've never heard of this show, but they did a great version of this song!Thank you so much for sharing!
the show is incredible --- right from the 1st episode. :)
This is a great cover of this song. Id buy this cover on itunes.
Thanks for putting this up; I loved this version!
After the episode finished i was looking for it... i couldn't find it so i decided to upload it!
Matteo Zardini Thanks !
Yes, thanks so much. It's really a great song, and I hadn't heard it before I watched the episode.
Jeff Daniels sings Tom T. Hall.
Awesome, way too cool!
Lovely scene. I will miss this show so much.
What a great show this was

Sure wish this show was still on I always looked forward to watching it each week. That is a great song never heard it before this show
Memphis is a metaphor, it is anywhere you are. You are where you are because you followed your heart.
Lyrics:
If you love somebody enough, you'll follow wherever they go
That's how I got to Memphis, that's how I got to Memphis
If you love somebody enough, you'll go where your heart wants to go
That's how I got to Memphis, that's how I got to Memphis
I know if you'd seen her, you'd tell me 'cause you are my friend
I've got to find her and find out the trouble she's in
If you tell me that she's not here, I'll follow the trail of her tears
That's how I got to Memphis, that's how I got to Memphis
She would get mad and she used to say, that she'd come back to Memphis someday
That's how I got to Memphis, that's how I got to Memphis
I haven't eaten a bite or slept for three days and nights
That's how I got to Memphis, that's how I got to Memphis
I've got to find her and tell her that I love her so
I'll never rest till I find out why she had to go
Thank you for your precious time, forgive me if I start to cryin'
That's how I got to Memphis, That's how I got to Memphis...
What a great serie! One of my favorites...
Seriously I am so sad that I just watched the series and I fall in love with this song, it's the song of my life.
this was such a great scene. this and his speech after really tied the show up nicely
Love this show so much, I actually want to cry
"The last time I saw Charlie, he was in his office cleaning his shotgun with a bottle of Maker's Mark muttering, "kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit!'"
One of my ALL TIME Top 10 TV shows.
Needs to come back for a special season, NOW
Jeff's playing his Custom Martin OM Jeff Daniels Guitar. He's quite accomplished and is going to be touring in beginning in Jan. If he's coming to your town, highly recommend his show. He's legit.
Would love it if he toured with John Gallagher Jr.

I Just Found Out Tonight What A Talented Musician He Really Is. I Looked Him Up On Twitter & That's How I Found This Wonderful Gem. ❤
It brought tears to my eyes watching this
I would def go see him
I LOVE THIS SONG.
Aaron Sorkin is so talented, annoyed the show is over, it was so good, this moment was so great.
Amazing show. I can't believe the show has ended.
It truly was... one of the best moments in TV viewing.
I wathecd this show this week for the forst time. It was INCREDIBLE. The cast, the story, the characters. Just wonderful. I dont know if I ever gave 10/10 for a series on IMDB before
Love this. Always turn to it on the youtube. Beautiful.
Thanks for posting this clip. God I miss this show. :)
This was a nice segment. What a great song.
Music heals, thank you again.
Awesome performance.
So great so darn great. Gives just a hint of mist to the corner of the eye
I wish Jeff would have recorded this on his latest album. His version is my favorite. Roseanne Carter does a good version as well.
thanks, one of the best shows/episodes in the history ot tv. i miss it!
We've all been to Memphis and back...love this rendention!
cancelling the show is wrong in so many ways. will dearly miss it, had become one of my all time favorite shows, this particular episode happens to be one of the best I have encountered
The creator of this show decided to not to proceed with it because he went to work on other endeavor
When I saw this I could stop rewinding it playing over again--To me one of tv's highest point ever! Heart throb !
Thank you for such a wonderful show.
It's a great show
Loved it
I just looooved that moment! This is perfect.
Talent, Genius, and Passion is demonstrated by the writers and actors. The finale was totally awesome. It would be a tough act to follow.
Today, I was privileged enough to be in close proximity with this incredibly talented man! I will never forget this moment…
They picked a great song.
Najlepsze wykonanie tego utworu.
Best tv series hands down. Love from Bangladesh.
I love this song he's good 💙💚😍😎❤️
What a great way to end a great series, :-)
I love this show
Jim Harper comes in and the left handed guitar has a capo placed on the 4th fret so he can play the song transposed perfectly.
He's righty, the video is flipped
This newsroom is well written , and casted that we don't see often.
Thanks for this great clip !Dont forget to hear too the french version 'sur la Route de Memphis' by Eddy Mitchell
Non so perché sto piangendo, ma questo è così bello le lacrime appena flusso ...
Heartbreaking..... so moving... wish they’d bring it back
beautiful
thanks for the fancy post!!
lovely moment
God I miss this show...
I didn't notice the flip until the fist bump at the end, then re-watched it. I was going to comment on the flip but then noticed it already mentioned in the comments.
I hope this turns a whole bunch of new people on to the great Tom T. Hall
charlie was there somewhere swaying his head to the tune.
I paused the video at 0:43 and went back to work. Pulled the video up again like 4 hours later and had no idea what the hell I had been watching.
Best show ever
This is pretty great- totally!
They need to reconsider ending this show, it's a great show.
J'ai tellement aimé cette série! Ce serait chouette d'avoir une suite...
I wish they had recorded this in a studio at some point.
"Go to the five"*has no frets*
I hope they throw in an actual recording of this with the season 3 release :D
I wish there was a few more season's of that show... But, thank you HBO for putting that on the air.
I'd love to see these three play a set together, I mean an honest to goodness MTV Unplugged style hour long set!
Everyone's a lefty.
I love it.
need this in 10hour loop
how comes the video is mirrowed left-right?? all the musician here are left handed. I've seen another version in which they play right handed...
So they don't get booted for copywrite infringement
RIP Tom T. Hall
RIP Tom T. Hall.

HBO didn't end the show. Sorkin did. HBO wanted multiple seasons.
Then shame on Sorkin for not following through with extra seasons.
Didn't he said that he'd do just 3 seasons and that's it ?
Sorkin wasn't happy with the series. Said he never felt there was an episode he got completely right. He left it to write the Steve Jobs movie. In my opinion, The Newsroom is his best work to date.
why is this video backwards.?. love this version and Tom T. Hall's too.
To avoid getting taken down for copywrite.
Excellent song choice written by legend Tom T. Hall - The Hemingway of Country Music. th-cam.com/video/EDHV4PUZvgY/w-d-xo.html
Beautiful. Sweet, emotive, and tugging at your heart all at the same time.
Anyone else notice that it's printed backwards?
My favorite too :(
A show gone way before it should have.
I wish they continued. I would've loved to see how they covered Trayvon Martin & Furgeson
I listen to thid when im depressed or sad
Television at it's best.Sorry to see it go.Aaron Sorkin is one of the best writers in entertainmet.
it ended?!?! i haven't been this sad for a long time
Awesome
Best scene in season 3
If the first rule of show biz is "leave them wanting more" Aaron Sorkin and Stephen Colbert ended 2014 with fireworks.
