I'm an old guy playing this for a week now. I can add on some more tips. The moment you leave the vault, follow the main quest at least to the donation box close to the first two npc women, depending on server you might find some goodies there from other players. Second a most important thing that might had saved some time, is to build a survival tent besides your main camp a 2x2 or 3x3 on foundations it will save as a blueprint with everything you build on them and you can have a survival tent and relocate for a few caps without a fallout first monthly subscription. Fast travel to other people camps and check their shop, i got all my crafting benches that way as a lower level guy without having to pay too much for them. I personally maxed endurance because i got cards that give bonuses to AP, resistances, diseases based on how much endurance you have, and i only drink from rivers without caring about rads. Get pearly peepers a set of binoculars that act as a recon scope with all three levels of zoom, allowing you to tag enemies and plan accordingly. Make a beeline as well and do Order of the Tadpole quest. But most importantly, whatever you choose to do, make that survival tent camp.
Bladd FTW!!
This helped quite abit
